Our Wedding Venue

The view from the deck of the Grand Old House

I have been blogging about the wedding for a couple weeks now, but have yet to talk about the location of our wedding and reception!

We are getting married at the Grand Old House, a 100 year-old coconut plantation-turned-restaurant overlooking the ocean. The Grand Old House is a popular spot for anniversaries, weddings, and other special occasions in Grand Cayman.

When I was researching wedding destinations, I came across this “Real Wedding” on The Knot. I loved its elegant, dinner-party atmosphere, but at the same time it came across as simple and not stuffy.

The deck of the Grand Old House

In July I visited Grand Cayman and saw the Grand Old House for myself. The ocean views are spectacular and we immediately decided we would have both our ceremony and reception on their seaside deck, instead of on the beach. I really want our ceremony to be private and special, so the thought of having gawkers, children splashing around in the water, and Joe Schmo in his Speedo all around Mr. K and me when we say our vows made our decision to get married on the deck an easy one!

Set up for cocktail hour

How did you know your ceremony/reception spot was “the one?”

Miss Kitten! This place is gorgeous! Your wedding is going to be incredible.

We found “the one” after looking at all sorts of places. A sense of privacy was important and part of why we strayed away from major resorts and other public locations. I knew it was the one from the giddy feeling I had when I stepped inside and after I ate dinner in the restaurant I was sold. What can I say, I love food!

That is a beautiful venue! We did alot of looking and had to eliminate a bunch of places due to cost. So when we found a place that had a great package, the fit our budget, and was available one of the 2 dates we wanted… we took it!

Your wedding is going to be so beautiful! I can’t wait to see the pictures.

I don’t know if this is bad, but I booked the first place we saw. It’s a villa in San Diego with a private beach. We will be married in the yard overlooking the ocean! It took our breath away and we booked it. I guess when it feels right, why fight the feeling.

Your venue is beautiful! It took us something like 4 months of research to find ours (places in Chicago book so fast and are so expensive!). When we found the South Shore Cultural Center we thought it was a miracle - it is gorgeous and reasonably priced. Then we found out it was the site of the Obama’s wedding reception (we got engaged in DC right by the White House!) and it was like icing on the cake.

Congrats on the location! My fiance had a work related event at the Grand Old House last year during a business trip to Cayman and the place is amazing. Great food, amazing views, etc. It’s a beautiful location to get married.

Oh man, that is beautiful! Getting married on that deck will be even better than the beach - you will still have the sea in your pictures, but without, as you say, the iffy kids and speedo dudes as well! And you can always do photos on the beach afterwards. I wish I could have done a DW. Sigh. So lovely!

That’s breath taking! What’s an amazing view. I agree with @Ruby Slippers: it’s better than the beach.
We knew our venue was “the one” when we went to see it. It was set up for a weeding of about the same size as ours and we loved it immediately.

Lovely spot, I thought I was going to have a beach wedding myself but now I’ve decided to go with a California Vineyard wedding. I can’t wait to start searching for Vineyards next year!

i had been searching for a funky venue, and i had a childrens museum in mind, something low-key, fun, and untraditional. When we found a museum & planetarium that had technology/science hands on exhibits, we knew it was for us.

when we found out that it was only $400 to rent the entire first floor, we were sold!

How Beautiful!!! I had a wonderful Christmas dinner at the Grand Old House while “skipping Christmas” in the Caymans last year. Are they going to close the place down for you?
