Calling All Short Dress Brides!

January 31st, 2009 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Onion

UPDATE: It has been so much fun getting your emails, stories and short dress photos! Keep them coming. I’d like to have all submissions by Wednesday, February 4th. And don’t forget to include your Weddingbee name (or how you’d like to be acknowledged), the dress maker, and where you got it, to help other brides. If you’re worried about surprises being ruined I can crop your head out of the photos (does that sound creepy?) so no one will know it’s you!

~~~
The Ring Shots series has gotten so popular that I thought I’d put out a call for photos of something I love — short wedding dresses. Until recently I was the only short dress “bee” and always wished I could see images of bee readers in their short wedding dresses.
Are you planning to wear a short wedding dress? Were you already a short dress bride?
If so, I’d LOVE to see photos of you in your dress that I can share with the hive in a future post. They can be from your fitting, a bridal session, or from your wedding.
(If there is a lot of interest, this could be a few posts.) Email them to onion (at) weddingbee.com. Please include where you got your dress (designer/store), to help other brides search for their perfect dress. And, if the picture was shot by a professional photographer, please include his/her name.
Here are a few photos of my gown, a Romona Keveza from her legends collection that I bought at Mark Ingram’s Bridal Atelier in NYC:
Oh, and this could be a fun jumping-off point for a whole line of pictures — birdcage veil, colored shoes, etc.
How many halves-y brides are there out there?? I’m a 2 dress bride, but I couldn’t decide! Long? short? I love them both! ;) I bought a ML long dress, and I have a linen/silk short dress from jcrew that’s cute as a button.
I’m definitely in the short dress camp. We’re having a laid back park/forest/bbq wedding and a long dress seems too formal for our kind of occasion.
I’ve noticed that most short dresses are decidedly “preppy” or “retro” which is really cute but has anyone seen any short wedding-ish dresses that aren’t as… structured?
I.LOVE.IT! Super stylish and so sweet. While my wedding gown is long, my reception dress will be short and fifties-esque.
Please keep the pictures coming. Even if you dress hasn’t arrived yet, if you have a picutre of it I’ll consider those too!
yoyohanna — I have seen some more romantic shorter dresses — check out these dresses via tickeledpinkbrides.com: http://www.tickledpinkbrides.com/brideblog/images/2008/03/28/short_gown_board.jpg
or these choices via dcnearlybrides.com: http://www.dcnearlyweds.com/uploaded_images/collage-741648.jpg — the Melissa Sweet on the top left is very sweet and romantic.
Not only am I wearing a short dress, I’ll be wearing red heels with it. As the wedding creeps closer, that’s the one thing I’m getting nervous about. My FMIL isn’t happy about the short dress, so I can’t imagine what she’ll say when she sees the shoes.
I love Mrs. Candy Corn’s sassy little dress. Although my dress is long, I half wish it weren’t, so I could rock some seriously fabulous shoes.
I AM a short dress bride! I am thrilled you are doing a post on it! I have looked and looked for people who are going this route! Thank you for posting! I swear I have seen EVERY one out there : ) Another beautiful bride had this same dress and I could never find out who made this dress. Her wedding:
http://www.swsmag.net/blog/2008/7/11/southern-wedding-of-the-week-susanna-justin-part-i.html
Also MY dress is the same as:
I also LOVE:
some of her dresses in action:
I am NOW debating on what veil looks best with the shorter option. If anyone has ideas, please send ideas :)
I’m a short dress bride too! I love the vintage look of my dress. It’s a Melissa Sweet Petunia. I’m planning on pairing it with a bolero, birdcage veil, and really bright purple shoes. It was a little out of my price range so I’m also looking at possibly selling the dress and buying a long a-line dress and having that shortened. I dunno if that’ll necessarily be cheaper though…
I will be a short dress bride as well. I have the dress picked out, but I haven’t ordered it since it will be custom. (I need that Tax Return $$) Here is a link to the dress I will be getting:
I love this idea as much as I love short wedding dresses!
Some people have already mentioned Dolly but she has some great sassy short dresses that are easily customized for you (http://www.dollycouture.net/).
I went for the Edmonton style but with the Hastings lace.
Do you want to do your recaps all over again? I just love seeing your photos! You were such a sweet little bride. I think a summer wedding would have meant a short dress for me. I didn’t know if it would be raining in Seattle in October though!
If I would have found this site before I ordered my dress, I would have strongly considered a short one. I’m a shortie, so I think it would have actually helped me look a little taller. And I would have SO gotten this Stephanie James dress seen here http://www.stylemepretty.com/2008/08/07/real-wedding-in-a-stephanie-james-dress/ and here http://www.stylemepretty.com/2008/08/07/real-wedding-ii-6/
I’ve only gone to two bridal shops, and yet so far I think “the one” is an ivory cocktail length Mori Lee dress. I love it! I’m short, 5′2″ and a half on a good day and big busted so most long dress made me look, as my MOH put it, like a doll cake! So short dress it is. So now my dilemma is should I keep looking because I’ve only been to two shops or should I just get the one I really like and forget about the hassle of trying on more dress?
Oh Tessabella you should def get it. I think I know which one your actually talking about. Is it in the destination collection? I have tried that one on! My mom’s favorite still to this day. haha….
I think that if you keep going back the “that” one you need to get it!
I’m a short dress bride too! (though not as poufy as the pics in this post). By biggest kvetch with short dresses is that they usually have the 1950s circle skirt thing…I hate that! Arg! Can someone help me find a non-poufy short dress?
[...] **Mr Frenchie, if for some reason you are actually reading Weddingbee, this is the post you are you NOT allowed to see… unless, or course, you want to be in the doghouse! Kisses, I loooove you. :)** I know the feeling of falling in love with a picture, only to try it on and have your dress dreams crushed because it hangs on you horribly. I did this at the beginning of my search - I fell in love with tea-length dresses with poofy skirts, only to realize I’d look much better in a long dress that fit closer to my body with a bit of an A-line. Hello Miss Frenchie, the object is to try to make you look smaller, not bigger! Anyway, so I don’t bore you to tears, I will only tell you about my wedding dress search after I realized I wouldn’t be a short dress bride. [...]
I don’t know anymore!!
There was a time–just a couple weeks ago–that I was a short-dress girl, through and through. And then the spring wedding became a fall wedding, and I started getting excited about a long dress.
Well the wedding date has bounced back to next spring, and, gaa! I don’t know!
I love the shorter dresses but my mom isn’t feeling it.
Then again, she doesn’t fall in love with many of my ideas to begin with…ahh!
Best Wishes
