There are definitely a few differences between bridal magazines in the US and the UK.
I’ll only delve into the UK Bridal Magazines at the moment, but remind me to tell you about the cheese!
In the US, when you purchase a bridal magazine you’ll often receive just the magazine; occasionally it will be a special issue with an insert, or perhaps include a CD ROM. But in England, you get a bridal package. In fact, you could probably use the packet to lift weights. I purchased two wedding magazines, Brides and You and Your Wedding:

Inside I found:
{You know the movie reference, right?}
Yesterday’s rant about our dear fiances and their sometime lack of understanding of the bazillion details that brides have to handle struck a chord with me. Yea, duh, since I wrote it, but also because I so related to all of your comments. I kept thinking, I’m having a hard time with the details — yea, because I don’t want to have to deal with them and because it annoys me that Mr. Stinky Cheese has no clue how much I’m dealing with — but I’m not having to worry about the task management aspect. Meaning, I’m a trained project manager, perfectly capable of handling dependencies and shifting timelines and priorities and delegations in my head. Woe to the poor girls who have to plan a whole wedding without that background.
But I might be way off base. Perhaps it’s easier for the rest of humanity (first-world brides, anyway) to deal with it than me. Maybe it’s my background that causes my frustration that it’s not easier and faster. Maybe if I buckled down and got it all together, I’d be better off. But if that’s not the case, and you’re struggling too, what do you need? How can I help? Who knows, maybe it’ll make me get it together and treat this like a work project. There are a thousand templates and checklists and systems out there, and quite a few good references on this site.

When Mr. Latte and I started looking at e-rings, I had a pretty good idea of what I liked and disliked. I knew I wanted a round center stone, and to keep it company, some little buddies on the side.
I thought I was all set… until I started reading posts like this. And this. Wait, what? I have to think about my wedding band sitting flush? I relayed this information to Mr. Latte and gave him some extra things to “consider.” OK, I’ll fess up. I gave him a picture… or two. Maybe more.

(One of the pictures Mr. Latte received.)
Poor Mr. Latte had a hard time finding a ring similar to the one in my picture.

We have a super fun giveaway for you! When Sky at Tedde contacted me (Mrs. Bee) about her Puffy Hearts, I fell in love! These handmade hearts are 100% handmade by various artists — each are about 3 inches tall, and no two are alike. Tedde has also assigned an emotion to each colored heart, so yellow means friendship and red means passion.
These would make the most adorable favors for a Valentine’s Day wedding, or as a gift just because. And today we’re giving away 55 Puffy Hearts to one lucky bride!

I super puffy heart these puffy hearts so much, that I just bought a bunch for myself and to give away as gifts!
To enter this contest, please tell us… do you plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day?
You have until 9pm PST Sunday to enter. Good luck!

Is it cliche to love Paris–that city of baguettes, bicycles, and berets; that city of the most iconic of all radio towers… of gauzy dreams of strolls in le parc? Do people who make the pronouncement of lurving it remind you of that lonely middle-aged woman in the 14th arrondissement-story of Paris, Je T’aime? Maybe? Just a little?
Having said that (and at the risk of sounding totally banal) I secretly love certain Parisian experiences… shhhhh.

Without knowing when or where we were going to be married, I quickly dove into my #1 priority - THE dress. I adore Filene’s Basement - like seriously - I’m obsessed. In general, I love all of those discount stores e.g., Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Loehmanns, etc. Mr. Piglet and I enjoy the treasure hunt to find great brands at bargain prices. A year before I was engaged, I walked into Filene’s Basement and saw racks upon racks of wedding dresses. I felt semi-guilty looking at them knowing I wasn’t engaged, so I opted to look at the purses and sales racks instead. One year later, I had the ring on my finger and rallied my sister and a friend to join me to bump elbows and fight the other bridezillas at the Running of the Brides in Towson, Maryland. Boy oh boy, were we unprepared.
We woke up early and made our way to the basement. There were 50-60 brides ahead of us, which wouldn’t be so bad if each didn’t have 4-6 people in their entourage. I’ve heard that the line at the DC Running of the Brides wrapped around five blocks so I shouldn’t complain. We did a jersey theme and all wore football jerseys from past tourneys we had played in. Once the door opened, I literally saw mothers get trampled by younger girls and the rack became bare within seconds. It became a waiting game for the brides to give up dresses they didn’t want. Bartering was common amongst the brides. Craziness. All in all a fun experience and I walked out with two dresses. Yup, I’m another multi-dress bride, neither of which I decided to keep.
I wish I read Miss Latte’s post before braving the masses at the running of the brides. Had I done so, the experience may have gone a bit smoother and we could’ve avoided the ‘deer caught in headlights’ reaction.

Weddingbee reader nyckim won 125 letterpress invitations from Plum Blossom Press in a contest we hosted last year, and she just picked up her invitations last week! We always love to hear from our past contest winners, so we can share the final product with you! They turned out gorgeous!

After we stopped for a few vineyard photos we were on our way back through the city. Our driver took us over the Golden Gate Bridge and even though it took a bit longer going this route, we were able to have some really great views.

These photos of the bridge were taken by our photographer who was riding in the front seat of the town car.
Ooh! You may have seen this wedding before, but just in case you haven’t, I just thought I’d alert you to this fabulousness:

My dad is the first one to admit it, but he’s an old fart. He doesn’t look it, but he’s hovering around his mid-60s and has the energy of a 20-something-year-old. He’s also a part of a generation of men that knows how to dance. My pops has some mad jitterbugging skills. Unlike my first dance with Mr. Cookie, dad and I never practiced our father/daughter dance. When Paul Simon’s “Father and Daughter” started playing, he took my hand and we just started dancing.
A while back I was contemplating doing my own wedding makeup. I even wrote a post about it. In an ideal world where money grows on trees, I would have probably booked a professional in a heartbeat. But, unfortunately, my budget didn’t allow for a $150+ trial. So, what was Miss Glitter to do? I turned to the Weddingbee Classifieds! Through a quick search, I was introduced to Susie Chhuor: hair and makeup extraordinaire.
My makeup inspiration: fresh, simple, and natural.
This post is slightly painful because it’s a reminder that the sun went away for a moment during our portrait session. Ever the prepared bride, I had set aside plenty of time to get portraits. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t agree with me, because it rained for a few moments, causing the sky to grow black. Our photographer, bless his heart, had to pull out the dreaded flash for some of the pictures.
I’ve tried my best to boost some of the images in Photoshop, but I’m clearly no expert. Forgive my mistakes.

A few weeks ago, I attended an annual event at my company, where I had to give a speech in front of 200 people. I have to do this every year, and every year, I look at photos of myself and wish I had gotten a professional makeup application. So this year, I decided to do just that.

Too cold… Here I am on a normal day without makeup. I hardly wear makeup during the week.
