It’s no secret my family has an addiction to junk food; hence the character choice, Miss Piglet! Mr. Piglet, on the other hand, rarely craves anything too sweet. He’s repulsed by my ability to eat Snickers and Starburst as morning treats, and usually convinces me to order summer versus spring rolls. According to my dentist, the last cavity found left no room for additional cavities on my back molars. Look Ma, no [mo] cavities. ![]()
Allow me to digress for a sec and offer you a bit of insight into the logistical situation of our relationship. Although we’re merely an hour away from each other, I consider our relationship semi-long distance not only because we’re separated by the state line; but more so, [duh duh duhhh] THE beltway. We did it though! For five years, we mainly saw each other on weekends with the occasional weekday visit. Did I mention I’m still a piglet living at home? That means, the Mr would often come from Baltimore and head back up the same day. Boy, I heart him.
Ok back to the story! After one of our weekend soirees, I was shocked when Mr. Piglet pulled out a pack of Starburst from his jacket pocket just before taking me home on a Sunday afternoon. This is RARE I tell you.

Right after Mr. Peep and I got engaged, we jetted off to Hawaii for a vacation with his family. This left me in a very odd position- all I wanted to do was show off my new sparkling engagement ring, but ocean and new ring just don’t mix. Not to mention, as soon as we landed, we found out that our fax to get the ring insured did not go through.
So, I found myself in Hawaii with an uninsured engagement ring that was still a bit too big. I pictured our Hawaiian vacation ruined, and me spending the rest of my vacation searching through the sand with this guy:
After a bit of a debate with the Mr., we decided it was ok to wear the ring poolside, etc. But if we were to go to the beach or in the water, I’d have to put on what we termed “a stunt ring”. (I at least wanted people to know that I was engaged!!)
This is when Mr. Peep invented ring checks. He’d yell out, “ring check,” make me stop whatever I was doing, and show him my finger with the ring on it.

Over Thanksgiving I (finally!) officially asked four special ladies if they would be my bridesmaids. Because we are having a small destination wedding, Mr. Kitten and I opted for a small wedding party. All of our friends will be traveling to the Cayman Islands to attend our wedding (and dropping a substantial amount of dough along the way), so we didn’t want to have 16 people adding bridal party expenses to their tabs. Because Mr. Kitten and I have quite a few siblings between the two of us, and since we are close to them and would have included them in the wedding party anyway, we decided to keep it all in the family.
Mr. Kitten is having his two brothers and my brother as groomsmen. He called them a few months ago and asked them if they would do him the honor. They all said yes, and to Mr. Kitten’s delight, each expressed interest in buying a tan suit for the wedding, as opposed to renting a tux.
I am having my cousin, two sisters, and sister-in-law as my bridesmaids. The numbers will be uneven, but one of my sisters is twelve, so she is actually a “junior bridesmaid” (and very proud of that title, having graduated from her prolific career as a flower girl). When I was back home in Houston, I took my sisters, sister-in-law, and mom (Cousin Kitten lives in North Carolina) to a “girl’s lunch” where I gave them cards asking them to be my bridesmaids. I made the cards in a flurry of finals-induced crafting procrastination.
Here is the front of the card I made for Cousin Kitten (who is my Maid of Honor):

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I realized in reading comments from my last post, that I haven’t really discussed with y’all how I am changing my life towards a healthier lifestyle.
I am taking very small steps here, because cold turkey just never works for me. I haven’t had an ounce of soda since October, so that was something that I didn’t have to really give up. Trust me soda drinkers; it’s not that bad to give it up and you actually begin to CRAVE water. The thought of those burpy bubbles going in my system isn’t so appealing anymore. ![]()
Here are some things I’ve changed:

* 64 oz. of water everyday. I bought a Sigg bottle to be more eco-friendly, so we don’t buy water bottles as much! (I’m way less tired and hungry doing this!!)

Laura Hooper’s gorgeous calligraphy has been featured several times here on Weddingbee, so we’re super excited to announce that she’s the latest PRO to join the hive! Please click on over and help me extend a super warm bee welcome to her!

Today’s guest DIY post comes from Jennifer of With This Ring. Jennifer shows us how to create perfect calligraphy… even if you’re a novice!
~~~
I always knew I wanted the classy elegance of handwritten calligraphy on our wedding invitations. Unfortunately, $2.00 per envelope for our 100 invitations didn’t exactly fit the bill. I’ve spent many hours drooling over the designs of calligraphers such as Laura Hooper and Heather Victoria Held (if only I had half of her talent, just half!), wishing I could afford their exquisite services.
I’ve always been artistic by nature, and my handwriting is probably better than average, but it is certainly not calligraphy-caliber. Nonetheless, I couldn’t bear to settle for computer-printed envelopes or even worse, sticker address labels (gasp!). So, I decided to give it a shot on my own! Here’s a little sample of how my first few envelopes turned out…
Not too bad, huh? Well, I have a little confession to make.
I totally cheated!!
Mr. Sushi is a shoe fan. A Nike shoe fan. If I’m a shoe whore, then he’s a shoe pimp.
Mr. Sushi can be very picky when it comes to his shoes and clothes, which made picking out an outfit for him to wear on our wedding day very difficult, but in the end you can definitely see his style in his “grooms wear”. I suggested that he rock some nice loafers like Mr. Sea Breeze, but he wasn’t having it (I tried). Nope, he went the Nike sneaks route, and who am I to tell him what to wear? It’s not like he had the option of picking out my shoes. So, we went the custom route and he “designed” his own wedding shoes.
It’s official, the Lattes are getting married! Our Save the Dates were mailed out today which means that they should be in the hands (or refrigerator doors) of our guests in a couple of days. I can’t wait to share them with you!!! But since snail mail takes some time, I’ll tell you the tale of how they came to be.
Our STDs were months in the making. Actually, even longer if you count the months they were being created in my head. So even before the engagement, I knew that I wanted to do a photobooth style of STD. You know, the ones with the happy couple making silly, but cute faces while holding up signs that have the words “SAVE”, “THE” and “DATE” on them. Very cute and SO very Latte.
Apparently, it’s a pretty popular idea because I started seeing them everywhere. I knew it was a matter of time before someone in my circle of friends and acquaintances would snatch up my precious idea. Every time a STD would show up in my mailbox, I would hold my breath and will it to be anything but a photobooth style card.
So when the time came to make our own, I quickly set up my camera’s automatic timer and forced Mr. Latte to smile… then laugh… then make funny faces as we took shot after shot holding up a large white sign. It did not work.
Exhibit A:
When I saw these, I actually gasped a little.
“Don’t you ever think about anything else?” he asked in all honesty and naivete, not knowing the kind of wrath that question could invoke.
We were laying in bed and I’d just asked if he’d thought about what the groomsmen should wear, because the guy on the TV commercial looked pretty good in dark slacks with a white shirt and tie.
I just stared at him, not sure how to respond, but certain that I felt offended, upset, annoyed, and maybe, just maybe, like he had a point. I don’t think about much else these days, yet I feel like I am justified in obsessing a little. We’re four months away from our wedding at our home and I’m only now doing any real planning—and a flurry of it, I’ll admit.
“Honey, we’re only four months away from our wedding, and I’m only now doing any real planning,” I explained. “Many weddings take much longer than that to plan.” He thought that four months seemed like plenty of time, and then he said it, his second dangerous phrase of the night:
“I’m sure it’ll all come together.”
Um, yea.
Hello from Miss Piglet aka Miss Piggy! I am so honored to be a part of the hive and cannot wait to share the joys and woes of wedding planning with such great company. Being a consultant, I’m very much in tune with the concept of not ‘reinventing the wheel’ and cannot wait to add our own flair to the common DIY projects that have inspired me throughout the years; many of which, are from the hive.
The piglet character was an easy choice considering I am quite the pig when it comes to my diet. My latest food obsession is a Korean BBQ joint called Honey Pig, and I will always be a fan of the 2 for 2 filet-o-fish deals at good ole Mickey D’s.
Mr. Piglet is so the opposite as far as diet is concerned and often encourages me to balance my diet w/ veggies, fruit, etc. Aside from balancing my diet, he truly balances me as a whole. We met in college during my sophomore year through a friend (now bridesmaid) and although he didn’t leave the best impression then, he did leave a lasting one that prompted us to keep in touch over the years.
He is unique, has the kindest heart, and freakishly looks like me (according to our family and friends). Fast forward to 2009, and we are now engaged and planning a destination wedding in Oahu! Yay to DW brides! ![]()
Ahhhh… MOO mini-cards. They are so darn… cute. And printed on the silkiest, most delectable cardstock. (I am typing this with a straight face because it’s true.)
After months of pining over them, I finally figured out a way to use them!
I know you’re probably sick of me talking about myself by now, but since some of you asked how Joyce curled my hair for the Bee Meetup, here are the details she provided!
Products/Tools:
1. Start off with damp clean hair. Blow dry on a medium setting (not hot) with volumizing mousse (a dollop) from root to ends. Scrunch hair near the roots with fingers as hair is starting to dry to give it lift.
2. Sectioning is the key. Separate your hair in 3 sections (the 2 sides and the back leaving the front to do last) with strong hair clips. Start from the back of the head and move to the front, curling about 2″ sections of hair at a diagonal, first spraying each section with hairspray (Joyce used TIGI Bedhead Masterpiece Shine spray). She mixed it up a little with the direction of the curling so the curls didn’t all go one way.
