Due to popular demand, we’re continuing our ring shots series! And they’re going to look extra spectacular thanks to our new wider layout!

chicagoseattle took this picture with her Canon Powershot Elph and edited it in Paint Ship Pro. Her wedding band was created using the 5 diamonds and platinum from her grandmother’s wedding band from over 60 years ago. Her rings are placed among bullets because she is a crime scene investigator, and her husband is a federal agent so ammunition is a daily part of their lives!

This project was a little out of my routine. Usually, I make a skirt every Thursday while Mr. Lollipop and a friend go out for pizza and beer. But it was another late work day, so I had to do something that would take 20 minutes instead of two hours. I really like my skirts with pockets, so it’s better to wait until the pressure is off to cut corners in order to get to some sleep, because, well, pockets are the first thing to go in a time crunch. I hope I can return to my usual “Make-a-Skirt Thursday” next week, but this project was fun.
I have a little collection of Japanese washi paper purchased from a shop in Asakusa just a stone’s throw from the Kaminarimon Gate*. The Tobu line connecting to Tochigi prefecture used to terminate in Asakusa (it now goes all the way to Shinjuku), so I was a frequent visitor while Mr. Lollipop lived in Imaichi city.

I mentioned this briefly before, but my dad is currently going through cancer at the moment. He still has months to go of weekly chemo treatments, so he will not be in his best shape when he walks me down the aisle. When we first found out he was sick, I wasn’t engaged at the time and it tore me apart that there was a small possibility he would not make it to give me away on my wedding day. He was diagnosed with stage four neck cancer, so his future seemed dark at the time. Let me just tell you, I would not wish cancer on anyone; it was a really tough time. But somehow, he has pulled through and doctors are very optimistic that he will beat it. Unfortunately, he is not without battle wounds - he has lost most of his voice and his sense of taste, and will probably never produce saliva again.
For weeks he has been asking if I have chosen the song he and I will dance to on my wedding day, and when we would start taking dance lessons. I always have to change the subject and run up to my room so he doesn’t see me tear up. Just thinking about the moment turns me into a sobby sap (although, it really doesn’t take much to turn me into a sobby sap). To be honest, my dance with my father will mean more to me than my first dance with Mr. Martini. I will have years and years to dance with my husband, but it will probably be the first and last time I dance with my dad. So why am I avoiding the issue? I just don’t want to break down on him when when we are practicing the dance to our song! It’s not because we’re not close. We’re actually very close. But even still, it is difficult to show our emotions to each other… I guess that just comes with being the daughter of an old school Korean dad.
I eventually realized that I couldn’t avoid it for long. Deciding on a song has been on the back of my mind for some time, but I didn’t know where to start. I wanted to find something with meaningful lyrics, and I wanted it to be the perfect song. It wasn’t until I read Mrs. Pinot Noir’s entry and heard “I Loved Her First” by Heartland for the first time that I knew this was THE song. I immediately started tearing at my desk in the middle of a work day and had to stop listening in order to contain myself! I’m sure that it is a popular father-daughter dance song, but I had never heard of it or the group that sings it.

My feet are wide but not long, so I often slip out of my pump style shoes when I walk. With the 30% off Foot Petals coupon we recently posted, I purchased a three pack of Heavenly Heels – you can see them adhered to the back of my shoes below.
What a difference! They’re super comfortable, and I’m no longer slipping out of my shoes. I just wish I had purchased more before the coupon expired!
PS - I first saw these shoes on sale at Endless for $55, but then I found them for $29.99 on Amazon! You can often find shoes cheaper on Amazon than Zappos, Piperlime, Endless (which is funny since Amazon owns Endless), so it doesn’t hurt to do a quick search!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Bonjour hive!! Wow! Really? I get to be part of this?! All of this?! I’m truly honored and really excited to join such a super creative and fun group, and to share my experiences, thoughts, and ideas (however good or not so good)! ( I feel like skipping through Paris, eating macaroons, riding an old bike, hanging off a bunch of balloons, all to the sounds of Brigitte Bardot singing “Moi, Je Joue”! La, la, la, la!!!)

Before I could inundate him with pictures of rings, Mr. Spring Roll had already picked out his wedding band. Regardless, I showed him other options, to ensure that he was satisfied with his choice.
“What about this one? It has a tiny diamond to match my band,” I excitingly asked. “Nope,” he replied.
A quick synopsis: I had a shower. I had a bat-chelorette mitzvah.
And then I had a partay.
For the evening portion of the event, my fab bridal party, a.k.a.

(can you tell I just watched “Love Guru”? I’m trademarking everything!), organized a dinner at Tapeo, a tapas restaurant in Boston. (An aside: I don’t speak English with an accent, but somehow whenever I say “tapas,” someone hears “topless.” What’s up with that? And it’s clearly not wishful thinking on their part, since I don’t got much to show up there.) While we’re totally off topic, let me assure you that this post is totally safe for work; my bachelorette party was 100% penis-free!

This contest is now closed! Congratulations to the winner, Keladry!

I love summer nights in Boston. I love the comfortable temperature, the smell of summer rain and all the fun things to do outside. From free movies on the Esplanade to camping under the stars, we Bostonians know how to take advantage of our short summer months.
My absolute favorite summer evening activity is to take a trip out to the Berkshires. This region in MA is the summer retreat of the Boston Pops Orchestra, where they perform outdoors at Tanglewood. Laying out under the stars hearing the orchestra play beautiful classical pieces is so relaxing and peaceful… and oh-so-romantic! It was my secret dream to get engaged out in Tanglewood. Well, secret until the summer of 2006 when I blurted it out to some friends who came to Tanglewood with me that year. Sigh, me and my big mouth.
Fast-forward 2 years.

After the cake cutting the reception started to wind down. Some guests took the opportunity to dance, sing, or just soak up the afternoon rays.
As always, photos by Jim Forneris Photography unless otherwise noted.
Our friends stole a private dance on the patio.
Well, they don’t make it easy.
“They” being your respective governments. When Mr. D’orsay and I first decided that we wanted to see each other for longer than a week or two, we started researching immigration laws. It was very difficult to find any resource that gave a simplistic overview of the process; everything was either a forum full of expat horror stories or complicated government jargon. I hope this serves as a comfort to anyone else going through the process, and informative to everyone else. I can only offer you our experience regarding US immigration with a sprinkle of UK immigration, but I still hope it helps you to know you’re not alone in this process.
In the US, visitors from certain foreign countries can enter the country for up to 90 days. You should know important information regarding how you plan to support yourself during your stay, information regarding your return ticket, who you are going to visit, and the address that you’ll be staying at. The government wants to be sure you’re able to support yourself while you’re here and you don’t plan on overstaying. The only issue going through the visa waiver program is that you don’t have the right to appeal, so if you’re denied or if they stamp you for a shorter stay, then you have to do what they say.
In the UK, visitors on the same type of visa waiver program as in the US can enter for up to 6 months.

Mrs. Cupcake has a couple items from her wedding for sale!
Piper Ewan hair flower - teal silk with ivory tulle, and has never been worn. She paid $50 and is asking for $20.

***Mr. Dragon, I know you say you don’t read my posts, but sometimes, like Miss Dumpling, I suspect that you are totally lying to me. You don’t get to read this one!!!***
I have been thinking about what to give the Mister on our wedding day for a long time. The first idea was to score Chicago Bears season tickets. Mmm, yeah. Anybody who lives in Chicago is totally laughing at me because they know how fruitless of a quest that is! I don’t know if it’s easier to get NFL season tickets elsewhere in the U.S. of A., but in Chicago… good luck, sister. There is a fee to get on the waiting list, and then you have to wait - sometimes a ridiculously long time. And - oh yeah - season tickets are super expensive.
So that is NOT happening (tear). Think, think, thinkity think - I thought up a new gift that will be both meaningful and useful!
