“…as a great big ring on Elizabeth Taylor’s finger.”
- Andy Warhol
Mr. Quiche and I had so much fun designing my ring. We both agreed that the ring didn’t need to be a surprise, as long as the proposal was (and was it ever!).
I absolutely love the Tiffany Legacy ring, and we used this as our inspiration.

As with every New Year, 2009 will bring many changes. I will rent a home with Mr. Spring Roll, become Mrs. Spring Roll, turn 24, and hopefully welcome a new niece or nephew (hint hint Sister Spring Roll).
Sister SR, Gavin (Sister SR’s stepson), and me on New Year’s Eve.
The biggest change thus far?

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Since Mrs. Canary wants to kick off the new year off right and in serious need of some travel inspiration to ward off the back-to-work blues, she’s going to let Mr. Canary drive for a bit and tell you about the most amazing trip before diving back into wedding recaps.

It wouldn’t be everyone’s idea of a honeymoon, and Mrs. Canary and I definitely gave due course to beach vacations, exotic bungalows and fluorescent-colored, little umbrella-bedecked drinks, too. But for us, two weeks in Italy was perfect: a wild, enriching, enveloping adventure. We had only 12 days (plus two spent largely in transit), but it felt four times as long, and in three sections—three days in urban holds like Milan and Bologna to start, five days of a prearranged bike tour through the hill towns and off-the-track gems throughout Tuscany, and finally a three-day respite in Siena before a return to Milan—we felt like we really made the best of our time.
What magic overall.

Erm… Happy Belated New Year! I really wanted to finish up all my recap posts before 2008, but alas, I failed! So, how about I finish them up in 2009 instead?!
We had a few unplanned moments on our wedding day, but none was as fun as this one — our DJ brought along equipment for karaoke! At first, our guests were a little hesitant to participate, but after offering up the table centerpieces a prizes, people started coming to the mic.
The first song chosen was a good one, and a Boston favorite—Sweet Caroline! Some of the people in the “audience” even got into it!

I feel like I cheated my (bee) name, and you will see why. As I’ve mentioned before, Mr. Ballet Flat and I are the same height. So, the shoes proved to be a big dilemma.
I am now rushed to find my shoes, because THE DRESS came in. I was informed that I need to have my shoes picked out by February 3rd for the dress to be altered in time for my springtime bridal pictures. So, needless to say, I spent New Year’s weekend on a shoe hunt.
My criteria:
I first started at my bridal shop, however, they only had sample shoes in size 7-8. The consultant joked that I should cut off my toes like in Cinderella. Serious fail right there!
The next day, I went to (gulp) David’s Bridal on a Saturday.

It takes talent to keep an event moving seamlessly and ensure that guests are entertained at all times! This post is dedicated to Weddingbee reader thetwoparks, who referred me to our awesome DJ. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on all our vendors in a post to come, but I wanted to specifically highlight the amazing DJ Tim Coy, who truly deserved his own post! He really did an unbelievable job in keeping our reception flowing and every moment super fun!
Reader shanananna is selling strands of luminescent faceted crystals. They are in various shapes and sizes. She hand strung the crystals from branch centerpieces. They were hand dipped in alcohol and Windex in order to clean them after the wedding. There are 140 of the 8” strands, 120 of the 12” strands, and 40 of the 18-30” strands. She is selling the lot for $320 OBO.

I instantly fell in love with both the punch bar concept and the flowered monogram decoration in the image below, from Martha Stewart Weddings. After finding our cake, this was the first inspirational image that went into my wedding binder! Today I’ll share my punch obsession with you (I will blog about the flower monogram soon).

Punch a la Martha Stewart
Right after we signed our venue contract, I started dreaming of wedding day punch. I love the vintage aspect of serving punch at a wedding, and I love to drink it as well! Alcoholic or non-alcoholic, I can’t get enough of this delightful beverage. Mr. Taffy, on the other hand, sounded like he would need some convincing.

After our surprise grand entrance, we immediately led into our first dance. We wanted to get it done right so we could stop being nervous and enjoy the reception! Remember how we invested in dance lessons? It was finally time to put them to good use! The song we chose for our first dance was Songbird by Eva Cassidy and our wonderful musicians, Wine Country Piano Music, did an amazing job performing it.

Let me begin by saying I LOVE to bake. My peanut butter frosted brownies, peppermint buttercream and ganache chocolate cakes are the baked goods of legend. So naturally, I always fantasized about wedding cakes. What larger, more bad-ass cake is there than your wedding cake!? Not to mention I used to live down the street from Charm City Cakes, made famous by Ace of Cakes. Let me just tell you, there are few things worse than having a few beers at Dizzy Izzies across the street and coming out to see the masterful confections through the windows. If you check out CCC’s prices, you’ll quickly see there is no way we could ever afford one of those cakes. EVER. Plus it turns out we’re not wild about fondant.

Who wants a Hogwarts cake–I do!
I have quite a conundrum about inviting a member of my family to our wedding (In September!!!!). There is quite a bit of back-story, some of which I’ll go into, some of which I won’t.
I’m talking about my half/step brother, referred to as JR from here on out. He is my Dad’s son and up until my father passed away we were on OK terms. He’s never been my favorite person in the world based on his personal choices but I’ve tried not to hold those against him. In May our Dad passed away. There is a LONG story about what happened then but all that needs to be said is that instead of spending what little time was left with Dad, he left the hospital to go to a bar (no worries about my Dad, my Mom was there with him). When he came back, Dad had passed and JR didn’t even seem to care. This is something I just can’t get past. I was out of town at a wedding and received a call from my Mom at 9:30PM saying he passed; my FI and I only got to my parents’ house at 11:00 PM. I wish I could have seen my Dad one last time, but that’s neither here nor there.
Besides the above, JR is insensitive, rude, obnoxious, and a drunk. He has 3 children who are out of control and also obnoxious and rude. Knowing my brother he will be drunk before the ceremony starts (and may even drive to the wedding drunk). He also smokes and I’m afraid he’ll burn our venue down (we’re getting married at an outdoor location located DEEP in the Catoctin Mountains). To put it another way, he and his family have no respect for property.
After a wedding and the holidays, we often find ourselves with a collection of gift cards. Gift card holders are often made of cardstock with nifty graphic effects and textures, and they always seem to carry so much recycle potential. Today, I made these out of some Starbucks gift card holders with a fuzzy textured print:
