Six lovely ladies have agreed to stand up with me as I become Mrs. Dragon this summer (although I am thinking of hyphenating to Mrs. Snappy-Dragon, I must confess.)
Because I have massive Bridal Guilt, Mr. Dragon and I very much wanted to pay for the bridesmaids’ dresses. The downside is that we are on a budget of $100 or less for each dress. As we all know, shopping for a fabulous dress under $100 CAN be a challenge requiring hours of research and likely numerous fruitless shopping excursions. Good luck, sister.
Well, we have procured three of the bridesmaids dresses so far, and have surprisingly spent only $116.58. Total. Of course I will share my methods! The best part is that these dresses don’t skimp on quality, are completely appropriate, and suit the personalities of each wearer perfectly. Because my six bridesmaids are a wide range of sizes and ages (think super-petite to supermodel-tall, etc.,) we elected to dress the bridesmaids in differing blue cocktail dresses of their own choosing. We are also going off-the-rack, as alterations are not in the budget!

I am a photo whore.
I’ve never claimed to be much of a writer, which is why my posts are usually filled with photos and commentary rather than excellent writing. I loooove photography. Usually I am the one behind a camera rather than in front of it. But that’s not what this post is about. I am a photo whore, in the sense that I had the opportunity for not just one engagement shoot, but two. From two different photographers in two different states. Yes, I am a photo whore.
Mr. Sushi and my first shoot was with Michelle from Redheaded Ninja. Can you believe I found her on Craigslist?! We met with her at Hershey Park to do our shoot. She has an amazing amount of energy. Seeing her excited about shooting made us excited to pose for her. Here are some of our faves:

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
After getting some sudden inspiration from the ring pictures that have been posted, I decided to take out my 6-year-old Canon Rebel SLR and start shooting again. I never found much pleasure in taking pictures of people, but rather detailed shots of inanimate objects. (At least inanimate objects won’t shriek and run away!)
Here I am, fooling around with Christmas lights and crouching at our small windowsill! (I used a macro lens for most of these.)
A few days after our engagement we began the venue hunt. It didn’t help that I was flying a bit blind by calling venues in Maryland while living in Miami. After our return to Maryland, Mr. D’orsay had to return to England, so I was pretty alone in the search.
I first looked into the Clyburn Arboretum in Baltimore while we were living in Miami and balked at the $1400 cost. I thought, “That is just too high!!!” Right…
Which it actually would be by the time we rented everything we’d need to.

The ring shot bandwagon, that is. It was raining this morning, so everything was a bit wet, but I think it adds an extra texture. I took all of these just outside my back door, and I saturated most of the pictures to make the sapphire pop. What do you think?

Congratulations to the winners Miss Pinot Grigio and kenziegirl!

Papeterie is known for stationery with high end design, at affordable prices. And today they’re giving away a $200 gift certificate to two lucky brides!
We are getting married in Jamaica. Mr. Quiche has been married before and has already done the traditional wedding thing, and has always said he wouldn’t do it again. Once we talked about it and as he realized that getting married in Chicago was important to me, he tentatively came around. I had zero desire for a destination beach wedding. I’m from Ohio (Go Buckeyes!), but have never wanted to get married there. We researched several options in Chicago (too expensive), Paris (I am a Francophile and studied there in college, but it was too far and expensive for our guests!), and Wisconsin.
Wisconsin, you ask? Our friend and Best Man, R, graciously offered us his gorgeous lake house in East Troy, WI on Lake Beulah (near Lake Geneva).

It has a gorgeous lawn right on the lake (this picture is from pre-landscaping construction!)
I love a good wedding movie. Always have, always will. Here are some of my all-time favorites.

One of the bonuses of flying to Texas for the holidays was the plethora of antique stores and vintage clothing outlets. I made it my mission to find a purse for my wedding day. Obviously, because she is an antiques dealer, Snappymom loves to shop the antique stores, and she is buds with most of the owners, so I knew she would be happy to accompany me. Funny, because all those hours I spent as a child in antique stores was pure torture - I was totally a brat about it! Now I love to go and browse those same racks.
We hit two stores. In the first, Snappymom found a super cute doll and I found a strawberry tea set. (I love, love, love tea. I may have to designate a tea pantry in my home someday.)
Chelsea Petaja and her hubby are on the cover of the premiere issue of Southern Weddings Magazine. Chelsea is a Weddingbee PRO and blogged about it here!
Aren’t Chelsea and Tec the cutest couple ever? My friend once sent me the pictures from their wedding and I remember saying to her, “Oh, that’s a fake wedding. Those are models.” Hahaha. I was wrong. They are gorgeous and I’m excited to see them on the cover of the premier issue of the mag!
A small part of our little ol’ wedding is gracing the pages of the magazine as well.
I just wanted to give a congrats to any readers who got engaged this winter—it seems like love is definitely in the air! I got to thinking about our wedding and realized that of course not every bride chooses a winter wedding, but some couples choose winter engagement photos instead! I thought I would share some of my favorite winter shots.
Insert wise, we wanted to keep our invites clutter-free. I figure that if there was any additional information that needed to be sent out, we can mail it out later to our confirmed guests.
First, to answer a few questions:
Mochacoca asked, “Looks great. Did you Gocco everything? I can’t wait till I pull out my Gocco. I have been stocking up on supplies.”
Answer: I did not Gocco everything. I’ve been trying to save and savor my supplies so I printed the invite, inserts and labels with a laser printer. The only thing I did Gocco was the return addy on the envelope. I do plan on Goccoing thank you note cards though and can’t wait to do so!
bugaboo said, “I would love to learn more about the wording you used on your invitation if you don’t mind sharing; it seems to be uniquely worded and I just love that!”
Answer: When I was searching for the right wording for our wedding invites, I wanted something heartfelt, not too, too cheesy and nothing that refers to “Husband and Wife”. Verse it has some great suggestions and many, many verses to choose from.
Our invite wording:
