Bridal Shower: The Guests and Games

February 4th, 2009 @ 1:58 pm by Mrs. Spring Roll

Sister Spring Roll hosted my bridal shower last Sunday. Yes, Super Bowl Sunday. Despite the fact that my shower was on the same day as the big game, a great group of guests came.

Guests included co-workers, friends, and Mr. Spring Roll’s family. Since most guests did not know one another, we all donned name tags to familiarize ourselves. Additionally, sister Spring Roll had us play a game that she called an “ice breaker”. Each guest came up with two truths and one lie about themselves, and the other guests had to guess which was the lie.

Take a guess at my lie: 1. My first job was McDonalds 2. I slept with a night-light until I was a teenager 3. I graduated college with a 3.8 GPA.

Guests thinking of their truths and lie

If you guessed number one, you were correct. My first job was actually at JCPenney, and boy did I hate it. Anyway, the game had all of us laughing and made for great atmosphere.

For the next game, sister Spring Roll split the guests into three groups of four, and gave each group three rolls of toilet paper, and five paper clips.

With only those materials and five minutes on the clock, each team had to choose a model and dress her in a wedding gown and head piece.

After the five minutes were up, the models showed off their gowns, and I chose the winning gown. (The gown to the left won, as it was the only one with a bottom attached).

The next game left all the guests laughing, and me with a mouth full of marshmallows. You see, prior to the shower, sister Spring Roll asked Mr. Spring Roll several questions about himself and our relationship. Not only did she ask questions, but she also videotaped his responses. At the shower, she asked me a question, I answered, and then she played his response. If I answered differently than response, I had to put a marshmallow in my mouth and say ‘honeymoon’. Totally not fair, considering Mr. Spring Roll answered a couple of questions wrong (like the date we met and the first movie we saw together).

(So embarrassing!)

What games do you plan to/did you play at your bridal shower? Which was your favorite?

I love the marshmallow game! My MOH previously asked me if I’d be opposed to public marshmallow stuffing b/c she thinks this would be fun! I agree, bring on the marshmallows!

We played the last game you talked about (with the marshmellows) at a friends bridal shower…only we used bubblicious bubble gum instead. Quite entertaining to watch, not sure I’d want to be the pawn. :)

Yum, marshmallows. I might deliberately get the answers wrong just to have some.

i am a little scared to see what my bridesmaids come up with for the shower, seeing as they all keep refering to their email correspondance with one another as “plotting.” eek.

So fun! I always like seeing the toilet paper dresses. The last shower I was at I got to be the model and then had toilet paper lint all over my dress the rest of the shower!

My friends and I used to play that marshmallow game when we were little… except the object of the game was to see who could get the most marshmallows in and say “chubby bunny.” I don’t like marshmallows anymore - beware of the next time you try and eat one, since you might gag at the sight of it ;)

I love the way you can tell from the pics just how much fun everyone is having :D I do have a concern regarding marshmallow games though.

To others considering doing it, PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL. Forcing too many marshmallows in your mouth could cause some to lodge in your throat, and thus choking (which could be very dangerous), and somewhat difficult to dislodge during the panic because of its squishiness/slipperiness . I have unfortunately seen this happen first-hand at an ice breaker game :( (thank goodness she is okay now).

I’m doing a version of the toilet paper gown at my friends lingerie shower. I am going to have to girls create their own lingerie made of toilet paper, and have the bride judge. If there are enough in attendance I may let them work in teams of two. We’re also combining it with a plunger/toilet paper relay. One person holds the roll of tp between their knees and the other person holds the plunger between their thighs/knees. The object is for the plunger person to be able to place the end into the roll of toilet paper. If you have never seen a video of this it is HILARIOUS, and maybe a little tacky. I honestly have no idea how the toilet paper theme started with the games…..
