Mr. K’s view from the bottom of the stairs
When we left off I was standing at the top of the stairs on the grounds of the Four Seasons in Austin, peering down at Mr. K.
The words “surprise”, “shock”, and “awe” come to mind when I reflect on my feelings at the time, yet none of them can adequately explain my mental state. Prior to being startled by Mr. K calling my name, I was already brimming with nervous energy due to the fact that I thought I was going to my first law firm recruiting event. So not only did Mr. K’s surprise TOTALLY blindside me, but it multiplied my nervousness by about a million!
So what did I do?
Gleefully run down the steps to my loving soon-to-fiance and shower him with kisses? Nope. I just… stood there, staring at Mr. K with the kind of facial expression usually reserved for people who discover that they are on “Candid Camera”. Mr. K says this lasted for an about 2 minutes (which he said was torture, he started to think I might make a run for it!), but I think it was more like 20 seconds. It just took me that long to even begin to realize what was happening.
Cautiously, I began to make my way down the long flight of stairs, peering down to Mr. K with a look of suspicion the entire time. When I reached the bottom of the steps, I immediately gave him a hug. I’ll never forget the smile on his face. He looked nervous, but most of all he just looked REALLY happy. And suddenly I wasn’t nervous anymore. I was still awestruck, but I realized this was my Mr. Kitten! It was US! Just us. And although I had been caught totally off-guard, there was nothing to be nervous about. Before I could say anything, Mr. K clasped his hands around mine started to speak. I have NO recollection of the actual words that he spoke. I just remember thinking that they were perfect, and that his eyes teared up a little as he said them. Then he got down on one knee and the rest is history.

It turns out that some guests of the hotel had caught wind of what was happening and they watched the whole thing from the main terrace of the hotel. Mr. K said they clapped and cheered when I said yes, but I don’t remember any of that. I was entirely caught up in the moment, I don’t remember seeing or hearing a single soul but him. How did we get these pictures, you ask? Well, one day in passing I had told Mr. K I would love to be able to celebrate my engagement with my family shortly after it happened. When Mr. K was planning his proposal, he called my parents and asked them come to Austin to be a part of our special day. He also commissioned my dad, who dabbles in photography, to snap some photos during the proposal. Evidently my dad was hiding in the bushes several yards away, employing his trusty zoom lens to capture the event.

If you’re thinking my face looks funny in this picture, you’re right. This is my “OMG I can’t believe that just happened” face. Mr. Kitten loves this picture and proudly proclaims that it is hard evidence that he “got me”. I think my unfortunate outfit constitutes even stronger evidence of being “gotten”.
After I said “yes”, we spent a few minutes alone, both of us giddy with excitement as it all sunk in. Later, my parents appeared and we all had a lovely dinner at the Four Seasons, while I admired my crafty fiance and sparkly new bling.

A shot of the ring that we took that night. More ring shots to come!
