An Open Letter To J.Crew

February 5th, 2009 @ 4:35 pm by Mrs. Meatball

Oh J.Crew,

What’s up with you? How is it possible that with such a gorgeous, playful, and rich color line of bridesmaid’s dresses, you don’t offer ties to match for the groomsmen? Srsly. How hard could it be… just take a bit of that leftover girly fabric, fold it over and sew it… right? With such a beautifully unique line of bridal options, can we just get practical for a minute and say, WTF?

I mean, I love love love our bridesmaids dresses. But now I’m stuck trying to find ties to match. And since I don’t own any of the dresses, and my bridesmaids all live in other states, I have nothing to carry around as a color swatch to compare against.

Let’s get with the program J.Crew. You’re thisclose to being full-service wedding clothiers. Help a sister out. Let’s take the last step together and put my tie dilemma to bed for good.

Wistfully,

Miss Meatball

Where did you look to find ties to match your bridesmaids’ dresses?

Have you checked out the outlets? We picked up ties for our groomsmen at Nordstrom Rack. I saw tons of ties in pink (the color we were looking for) and some in orange as well. I just brought a swatch with me and circled around all the racks until I found ties that worked :)

We did a complementary color for ties - bm’s wore green dresses and guys wore yellow ties. It looked great!

dessy.com! My bridesmaids got their dresses from their, and I was able to find pocket squares and ties in the same colors. They have so many colors and styles, I’m sure you could find something that matches those lovely dresses. :)

Good luck on your quest! Who knows? Maybe someone from J.Crew will read your post, and suggest a new line of ties for its men’s line!

We’re doing colored ties for the guys, but black dresses (and vivid flowers — POP!) for the gals.

If you watch What Not To Wear, just remember… “They don’t have to match; they just have to GO!!!” Whatever tie you end up choosing, I’m sure they’ll look amazing!

Try finding one of each color dress and have the material turned into ties and you could use it to wrap bouquets. Maybe you could get a good deal on ebay.

We went to Macy’s on State St. over the weekend and finally found a tie for Mr. Quiche. It was a long, hard battle…but we finally made it!

They had, like, 14 different stands of ties in every color, pattern, texture, etc., that you could imagine. It wasn’t cheap though, that was the only downfall.

I think if you call 800.205.3877 and ask for a swatch they’ll give one to you. From http://www.jcrew.com/flatpages/faqs.jsp. Good luck!

Contact one of the J Crew wedding specialists and they will mail you any swatches you desire! Mine came virtually overnight!

You don’t have to make them match… just go.

We got our ties at Macy’s utilizing the day after Thanksgiving sale. But I echo someone else saying Nordstrom Rack. We always find great ties there.

My bridesmaids are wearing grey JCrew dresses and the guys are wearing yellow paisley Donald Trump ties… and they are going to look HOT.

I had a bridesmaid that needed some extra fabric for her dress, and they sent some directly to her. Why not have your maids call and all ask for extra fabric and get them made into ties? I’m not sure it would work, but the fabric was free… totally worth a shot! As I type this, i’m not sure why I hadn’t thought of doing this for my groomsmen earlier!

They should offer matching ties!! Maybe someone will see this and get back to you. Or do you have Twitter? I’ve heard stories of people getting responses when they post a Twitter status about it.

Oh, for sure! I bet they’ll magically have matching ties within 9 months… but I second the idea to call the wedding specialists and ask for swatches of the girls’ dresses. You could get lucky and get enough to have the ties made!

I don’t think the colors need to be identical, so you should just take a photo with you and do your best if you can’t get those swatches.
