Lost In the World of Color

February 6th, 2009 @ 2:44 pm by Mrs. Duckling

The color palette of your wedding is a big decision. The colors you choose will be what you see on a daily basis through your planning process, a part of the photos that are captured that day and will set the mood and tone of your wedding. (Not to sound dramatic or anything.) But it really does seem like an important choice! We are trying to make the final decision on what colors we want to use (at least to start). Mr. Ducky is doing the graphic design for our monogram, stationery, website, and other fun details… so I need to pick the colors and we can start that process. However, there is the small problem of him being slightly colorblind. He can tell basic colors, but distinguishing between similar shades or colors can be difficult. (Such as the time he got me an orange gift thinking it was pink!) Therefore, I hope to get your feedback on this decision!

I first discovered Colourlovers a while ago, but just decided to try to create my own color palette. Here is what I am thinking so far:

Lost In the World of Color : wedding color schemes san diego Blue An Color Palette

Our color palette

It may seem a little busy but here are my thoughts. The lighter blue and raspberry will be the main focus of color. Navy and gray will be used for accents, fonts, and borders etc. We will use ivory instead of white for linens, stationery, etc. Right now I am thinking shades of raspberry will be used in the flowers, and maybe we’ll have blue bridesmaids dresses. I don’t want super traditional colors, but I still want it to be classy and simple. I am also keeping in mind that our wedding is the beginning of September, which is the transition of summer to fall.

Here are a few more shades of the blue and raspberry that we may be able to use to fill in, or as an alternative…

I am working on an inspiration board that will pull together the look and feel of what we are going for. Since that is not ready yet, here are a few pictures of the colors together. They are not the exact shades we’re thinking, but may help you get a better idea of the look.

So, what are your thoughts on the color palette thus far? Have you tried creating your own color palette in a design program or on the web?

you should check this out on my blog! You can weight specific colors over others, and view a collage of other photos in your colors on flickr!!! It’s great for making sure your palette has that right “feeling” and isn’t too “circus”-y

I really like the colors you picked! We are going with bright red, orange, aqua/turquoise for our colors. I love the first inspiration picture you posted. So fun and classy at the same time!

I went with colors that i thought fit our personality and skin tones…Since we are both dark, we went with a natural feeling….Chocalate, RUST, CREAM and GOLD…..

I like the color scheme you choose and thanks for the tip on the website

I really like that color combination, especially the ivory. Sometimes using white is too much of a stark contrast from the rest of the colors. Even if you didn’t want to go with something like the ivory, even an off-white would look good, I think.

I`m excited to see how your wedding turns out! I love the colors and think they are perfect.

I love them! Though I’m biased, my wedding colors are navy, azalea, too.

I totally get it, Duckling! I’ve been calling our palette tripleberry since I settled on it, and although I stay away from true blue, it’s very similar!

those are good colors. Ours are pool blue and black with accents of red and silver. and I honestly have not tried to create color palettes on the web, although I really should have. I think I may play around with the colors just for fun

I also forgot to mention that one of the great things about Colorlouvers is that they give you the HEX# and RGB# so that you can replicate the exact color for printing and design later.

All these other color palettes sound beautiful too. I love how many possibilities there are.

@Miss Rye Bread & Lillindy: Thanks for the tips. I’m definitely going to go look a those sites from more ideas

I love this palette. Very pretty. I also have a color blind FI. But I asked him what his favorite colors were and, miraculously, he named two of the four that I was contemplating - orange and green. I think it’s because he can actually see those two. We’re also going with gold and brown.

not sure if this helps you or not but we have done a similar color palette that has a bit of the gray in it. :)

I *love* those colors. Add in some moss green and chocolate brown instead of charcoal and you’re almost the same as my palette!

The blue and raspberry look great together.

Our decision was easy: his favorie color (red) and my favorite color (purple). And some shades of both colors - when I created an inspiration board the overall feel was of a sunset.
