Dahlia Inspiration

February 7th, 2009 @ 2:15 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

I know that many brides pick a theme and they carry it throughout their wedding planning process. They use it as a guide and means for organization.

I wish we had a specific theme, but our inspiration comes from a photo I saw months ago by photographer Jessamyn Harris (www.jessamynharris.com).

Dahlia Inspiration : wedding flowers Dahlias

Our entire wedding planning has been wrapped around this image, and everything is being measured next to it.

Dahlia Inspiration : wedding flowers Ld92004

Soon I will share with you my first inspiration board, but just let the amazingness of these flowers sink in!

Do you have heavy floral inspiration? What is the main flower you’ll have on your wedding day?

I find their petals very interesting. Rich, bold color also. I love the fact it’s not the everyday flower also.

To be honest, I can’t say I’ve ever smelled a dahlia. How do they smell?

I love the rustic elegance of your inspiration!

Yep. The wild tiger lilies that grow on our property (where our wedding is) in August (when our wedding is). Love dahlia’s, though–they’re beautiful.

I heart dahlias something fierce — they’re one of our main floral components as well!

Hey Miss Apple Cider! We’re date twins (10.3.09)! Anyway, do you have the url from that photo on her website? Those are my wedding colors (plum, gold, and melon) and I would like to see more! Thanks!

I too love dahlias…they are unique because you don’t see them that often. And the colors in the photo above are so pretty. :)

I love dahlias and we used them in our centerpieces, I was inspired by the ones in my grandma’s back yard…hers are literally as big as your head. Plus, the colors are so stunningly rich.

My wedding planning has been centered around daisies! They are such a happy flower, and I’ve always known I wanted to use them for our day! it led to our color choice as well (yellow and grey!)

I love dahlias! I love the colors, the fullness, and the unique petals. Too bad they’re not cheap enough for my tight budget.

Gerbera daisies; they’re my favorite flower. Plus they fit in with the color scheme and aesthetic of our wedding.

Dahlias are basically the whole inspiration for our wedding, too - my mom grows them in our garden and I am basically obsessed with them. If you have time, you can buy bulbs from Swan Island Dahlias (www.dahlias.com) and plant them for your service! The image on our STD is a from a photo of a dahlia I took in my moms garden, and she is growing a bunch for the wedding, plus a farm near our house lets people pick them wholesale, so all of our flowers are coming from there. Glad I am not the only person with such a funny inspiriation!

Oh I love those flowers! Dahlias are sooo pretty! I haven’t picked my flowers yet - too many to choose from! I’m trying to wait until I get some prices before totally falling in love! ;)

The main flower in our wedding will be hot pink carnations, because they are cheap like the budget. However I will be splurging on my own bouquet because all I’ve ever wanted were large fluffy, flirty, pink peonies! I am so excited to see how all the flowers turn out!

I don’t have a theme, just colors. And the only flowers will be the bouquets for us. Not sure about centerpieces yet, we’re going to tackle that over the summer
