Why Didn’t I Think of That?

February 9th, 2009 @ 8:31 am by Mrs. Cupcake

I realize that my last post was also about cake… but really, I can just never get enough of pretty cakes, no matter how long ago our wedding was! The cake design was one of those details that had me stumped for the longest time throughout our planning process, so I still enjoy finding unique designs that may inspire some of you.

This cake immediately made me think, now why didn’t I think of that?

Cake by Dahlia’s Custom Cakes in Ann Arbor, Michigan; found via Cake Wrecks (obviously, this was a non-wreck featured on the site!)

Yes — those are M&Ms! I love that from a distance, it looks like a sort of retro homage to cross-stitch…. but up close, it’s all M&Ms in their delightful, chocolatey goodness.

I’m sure this took some time and quite a bit of planning, but the effect is totally priceless.

What do you think? Would you go for an M&Ms cake like this for your wedding day?

:) I’m a cake wrecks reader as well, and the first thing I thought of was pixels! This would be a totally cute (and tasty) way to make a little pixel Link and Zelda or Mario and Peach!

I saw that! So adorable. :)

Wouldn’t that be a wonderful new way to put your monogram on a cake? Love it! I’m definitely doing that for the next birthday cake I bake!

I came across this pic a while back and thought it was great. We are affectionately called M&M by our friends (hence my blog name) so I thought it would be very fitting. I also think you could do this type of thing with mini M&Ms on cupcakes. That would be super cute!

How cute! I’ve never seen a cake like this before. And it would be easy to do at home for other kinds of baked goods, too. Thanks for sharing!
