Picking a Damask

February 10th, 2009 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Stiletto

I’ve had plans early on to have a damask wedding. But can you believe all of the different damask patterns out there?! Insanity. Damask means so many different things, from very floral patterns to more graphic ones.

I’ve flip flopped all over the place on what pattern was really for us, and have finally landed on the fabric that I had chosen from the very, very beginning.

Picking a Damask : wedding decor reception Amsblac

This “Amsterdam Black & White” from Warehouse Fabrics is $7.98/yd, so it’s pretty comparable to other damask fabrics out there that I’ve seen. You can purchase samples from Warehouse Fabrics for $2.50, which I did forever ago. When I received my sample in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised - it’s not a lightweight cotton fabric.

If I’d looked at the description more closely, I would have seen that it was categorized as a lightweight upholstery/drapery fabric. Perfect! Because I plan to (have my mom!) turn this fabric into 18×18 table squares, I like that it will be a little more substantial and have a richer feel.

Ahh… I just love damask. Something about the pattern is so pleasing to me. I can’t wait to see how it “pops” at the reception!

Are you a damask bride? How did you choose your pattern and where did you find it?

I love damask (obviously) and am always looking for more ways to incoporate it into my wedding. I’m not “married” to one print just yet. . .

@Hayley:
We’re a little all over the place too…our designer used a damask on our invitations that far more floral…but I’ve decided that no one else will really notice the difference but me :)

Is anyone doing a damask cake? I flip flop on this one…can’t make up my mind :)

I was going to be a damask bride, but like you I couldn’t really find the right damask, so I think we’re sticking with more general black and white accents. Table cards etc will probably have some kind of damask print though.

For cake, we’re just sticking with a white cake with black ribbon, and then flowers on top.

I love it! If I had to do it all over again we would likely go with damask.

I had damask runners and I made borders to the meus and table name listings. Basically I had to go with what I could find, which wasn’t much, but in the end the fabric matched the stationery pretty well!

@Miss Stiletto:
What’s your accent color? Or are you sticking solely with black and white?

I’m a damask bride, as well…I love following other damask weddings! I also ordered my fabric from Warehouse Fabrics, they’re great to work with.

We went with alternate table runners/mats of the Madison (black and white) and Traditions. Well, we’re currently in the process of making about 25. I think we’re halfway done so far. =)

@Miss Pinot Grigio:

We’re doing a really bold green (I call it “grass” but I think more people would call it “emerald” but not quite a jewel tone). I’m trying to keep the accent as just that - slight touches of the color but not overwhelming. Are you doing an accent color?

Fortunately my mom sews like crazy so she’ll be doing the runners :)

That’s a beautiful print! And you’re right, there are so many different kinds that it can be hard to choose — good pick! :)

I’m a damask bride! I’m using Michael Miller’s “Dandy Damask’ in Latte- it’s a tan-on-ivory pattern. It’s going on all my tables and accents. He has lots of color choices but I went with the tan to keep it more neutral. I also sent the fabric to my baker and my cake will look just like it!

@ArmyBride2009:

I actually bought the dandy damask in black and white make cute clutches for my bridesmaids (to be blogged later…super simple!)…so I was going to go with that on the tables, but I ended up just going back to my old favorite as posted above…but seriously, damask, too many choices!
