About Mrs. Stiletto

So, I bought my dress this past October and it’s been torture not to wear it! I’ve heavily debated whether or not to post pictures… but I know Mr. Stiletto (as I will refer to him from here on out, as much as he might hate it!) has been thoroughly instructed to not check out any of my wedding posts. And, since I’ve told only a small handful of people about my blog, my secret is pretty safe from those who will be at the wedding!

First let me say that I saw that the dress had tiered layers and absolutely refused to try it on.

Once I finally did (after the saleswoman forced me to) I absolutely fell in love. However, because it’s rather plain - I didn’t want any lace or beading - the saleswoman put different (overpriced!) belts and sashes around my waist so that I could see some different options. They were fine, but they just weren’t my style, and with the buttons going down the back of my dress, I hated how the sashes wouldn’t lay flat.

I decided that because the dress has such a soft, flowy feel, having my alterations person attach a flower at the waistline would be a great way to add detail. Since I didn’t spend a lot on my dress (from Wedding Belles in Barrington, IL), I’m not worried about making any changes to it. (If, say, Vera was involved in the evolution of my dress, I might think twice!)

Last week I saw an Etsy Wedding post highlighting the wonderful work of Irene of 5eizen on Etsy. I saw this ring pillow with her “Elle” bloom and swooned. It’s so soft and delicate.

I contacted Irene to see about a custom listing - a white bloom on its own that I could have attached to my dress (she did offer to put it on a pin so that it could be removed from the dress, but I’ve opted to have it permanently attached).

Irene was so fabulous to work with. She gave me a lot of different options on the shade of white (since my dress is “diamond white”) and was so responsive with different ideas. I’m anxiously awaiting my flower!

The selection of ring pillows, floral hair pieces, and birdcage veils available through 5eizen are phenomenal, modern, and chic. And… the prices will make your jaw drop. She just added a line of floral belts as well that I seriously considered - how vintage yet modern is this belt?!

@MsJoe:
Nope! I just decided that I’m going to attach the flower I bought at the waistline… needless to say, I can’t wait to get some pictures of the final product :)

On a side note…I think ribbon sashes and beaded belts like the one I’m wearing in the picture are beautiful…just not for this Bee!

Believe it or not, I’m actually going to my dress shop to look at overpriced belts and sashes tonight.

I know they’re going to complete rip-offs, but my dress really needs a belt, and I’m having no luck finding nice ones anywhere else.

@Mrs. Emerald:
I know, serious restraint not to buy a belt from her too!

@lou:
I still swear by Etsy…SO many people who will make custom items for you at a fraction of the cost…and your supporting crafters!! Check it out if you haven’t as an option.

My dress has a bow with a brooch on the left side at the waist, and I am going to have that removed and add a black ribbon around the waist instead. They actually had my dress with a sash already, but the pickup was different and I liked this one better, so i’m just going to do my own customization!

First, your dress is beautiful–I love the soft tiers! Second, ohhh, good lawd, those fabric flowers are delicious. This woman has a great aesthetic…with everything from her textured peony blossom to the vintage turquoise ribbon in that belt! Given the dress and the genius, you can’t lose! Very pretty!

First- you look gorgeous in that dress. Your waist looks teeny-tiny!

My dress is very simple, too, with an applique on the left side of the drop waist. Unfortunately the applique looks cheap, so I’m removing it and wearing a collection of antique brooches pinned on instead.

Aww, you went to Barrington? I lived there for eight years and still call it home, even though I moved away in 1997. I wanted more than anything to have my wedding back in Chicago, but it would have been just too difficult. I am now officially jealous of your wedding. Lovely dress, and good post on a lovely etsy seller (I too was drawn in by that same ring pillow in that same post on the etsy wedding blog).
