Or anywhere in France, for that matter!). I’m a full-time worker, part-time student, soon-to-be-step-mom, indie music lovin’, architecture and design fanatic, macaroni and cheese addict, vegetarian, Francophile, Ohio State football obsessed, wedding planning girl. Mr. Quiche and I are “Partners-in-Crime” and cannot wait to celebrate our marriage surrounded by our family and closest friends. I plan on DIYing my little heart out (or as much as a suitcase to Jamaica will hold).

Where Did You Go For Lunch Today?

February 11th, 2009 @ 2:57 pm by Mrs. Quiche

Me? I went to Nordstrom. It is a blessing and a curse that I cross Michigan Avenue two times a day, practically tripping over Nordstrom. Day after day, I’ve resisted. I walk right past, head held high as I think of the precious pennies tucked safely away in my bank account.

Until today.

I caved. Gave into my weakness. Lost my backbone. Whatever you want to call it.

But, I am now the proud (soon-to-be) owner of the elusive BCBG Applique dress in ivory. I plan on changing into it for the reception.

source

They didn’t actually have the dress in stock, but they had the same style in black for me to try. Once clipped, I swear this dress was made for me! It was too big, so I placed an order for 2 sizes smaller… only to be told that it won’t ship until April 16th. I leave for Jamaica on the 25th, so my fingers are crossed that this sweet, sweet lover will be in my hands in time. (*Sidenote - if you happen to own said dress in a size 2 and need to give her a new home, PM me and I’ll be glad to take her off of your hands. Thanks!)

I’ve been doing so well DIY’ing and saving money on this wedding. This expense seems a little excessive, but I’ve justified it to myself in many ways (that’s just what I do). First off, I’ll wear it for the reception. Second and third, to our “At Home” receptions. I’ve had to fight off the voice in my head that sounds strangely like one of my best friends saying, “But you never wear anything twice, let alone something that will be photographed on more than one occasion.”

But, I SWEAR I will wear this dress at least 3 times. Now THAT, I can justify.

Do you have any expenses that you didn’t originally plan on, yet figured out a way to work it into the budget?

Cute dress! You might have to break your “never wear it twice” rule for this one, no? Well, I don’t know about an unplanned expense, but I, too, want to change into a different dress for the reception…the Mr is trying to talk me out of it, however! :(

After seeing the thread on the boards I’ve been coveting one. This might be the first shopping related time I’m glad I’m living in a tiny village - no Nordstrom! The dress is gorgeous and as long as you tell yourself you’ll wear it again then it’s A-okay!

**P.S. - an email update from a friend that knows me verrrry well :)

“Forgot to tell you that the dress you got from Nordstroms is gorgeous, but you totally will not wear that 3 x! Especially being photographed all three times, which you know in Jamaica and at the home receptions, people will be taking your pics! :) Nice try!! Don’t try to justify it that you will buy it b/c you will wear it 3x. Just justify it by saying you look damn good!!! ”

Love you, Leish!

I LOVE that dress!! It’s so pretty! I’ve been wanting it for a while, but can’t justify paying full price for it. I already splurged on my wedding dress. sniff sniff. I’m going to wear it for our DW and at home reception….not quite 3 times, but better than just once!

Just FYI, this dress isn’t elusive anymore… it’s available in all sizes on the Nordstrom web site.

I bought a size 0 months ago even though I am a size 8. I didn’t think I’d ever find one in my size, so I bought the 0 so I could have the dress copied in my size. Oh well.

and PS… the dress looks quite different in person than it does in the Nordstrom photo… it’s definitely cream/off white and the flowers are more dimensional/poofy.

LOL, I love your buddy’s e-mail about the justification process. I’m the same as you–I always buy a new dress and think I’ll be able to wear it again and again but the reality is, I’m addicted to the special occaision=new dress high!

@ali-o: I say elusive meaning, everyone seems to want them & they are ALWAYS on backorder. For example, mine won’t ship for over 2 months.

OK… just wanted everyone to know they’re not as hard to find as they once were. I think certain sizes are on backorder and others aren’t, ’cause mine came within a week.

OK, I’ve got to ask. I love this dress, and I’ve seen this photo of this model in it dozens of times, but never a “real girl” wearing it. Please please try it on, take a picture and share it with us! :)

For me, it’s so much easier to justify wedding purposes that you will be able to use after the wedding! I think that dress it totally worth it! :)

@Mrs. Onion: I started a thread last week or so asking to see “real” photos of this dress. See it here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/show-me-photos-of-you-in-bcbg-strapless-applique-dress

That is so pretty!! I got my dress for less than $400 and my invites for $40, so I felt justified in spending $200 on a cake topper after that! Its a mini version on FI and I in our wedding attire, with our dog and cat since they can’t come to the wedding. As soon as the weddings over, that baby is getting shadowboxed and hung on the wall. I can’t wait!!

I’ve also been obsessing over that dress for wayy too long (almost 2 years). I actually ordered it but ended up returning it - wayy out of my budget. Such a great dress! Congrats on buying it!

I wanted this dress soooo bad, but didn’t want to pay for one and never found a used one in my size.

@Miss Quiche: I think you should really check the boards or even ebay to get one instead of paying full price, especially if your friend that e-mailed you is right. So many girls have this dress I’m sure you can get one for like half off.

@Mrs. Onion: I promise! As soon as it comes in, I’ll do it :)

@skeeta25: YAY! I hope so…that makes me happy!

@mmm: Yeah! I think a lot of people DO have it, like I said…which is why it is taking me so long to get it!

Perhaps “elusive” was the wrong word to use, but I think you know what I meant :)

@Lillindy: I have an alert set up to notify me if something like that is posted :) & if so, I will for sure return it!! Thanks!!

OMG I am so with you on this!! I’m going to purchase a BCBG dress of my own, and I was worried that I wouldn’t be wearing it more than just for wedding events. BUT my friends here in the hive convinced me to buy it because I can wear all my fun shoes with it (since it’s ivory) and it’s great for every occasion (except another wedding LOL!). Love the applique dress, great find!!

I’ve decided to sell my size 8, if anyone is interested in buying it full price (which was $418 with tax). I know this size is backordered right now until April, so I thought I’d offer it here before returning it to Nordstrom. I found another awesome BCBG dress on eBay for under $100 so I’ve decided to wear that one instead!
