Crate & Barrel: Waffles, Mimosas, and Knives

February 11th, 2009 @ 2:29 pm by Mrs. Latte

Last weekend, I escaped the freezing Boston weather and jetted to the Bay Area to visit Mr. Latte. Since our last few visits had been crammed full of wedding planning, we vowed not to do anything wedding related. Well, that was until I saw that Crate & Barrel was having their “Wedding Party” Registry event!!! I quickly signed up and proceeded to persuade Mr. Latte into going with me while I was in town. He gave in quickly when I promised him that they would have food, drinks and… a free gift! (I didn’t tell him that the free gift was going to be a hand blown glass heart bowl, but those are just details, right???)

So we got up early on Sunday morning and headed over to the huge Santana Row C&B. Doors opened at 9AM, and we would be able to roam freely with our scanner for about 2 hours. Armed with a cup of coffee, a copy of our existing registry and my TO DO list, we waited in line for the doors to open. Yes, there was a line… and yes, we had already started our registry. Actually, we were almost done with it, but I had a couple of items that I wanted to get finalized.

The doors opened, we checked in, got our scanners, and were led on a mini-tour of the store. We were then set free and I got to work tackling the items on my TO DO list.

Mr. Latte apparently had a TO DO list of his own, which looked a lot less complicated and a lot more fun than mine:

1. Eat as many waffles and paninis as possible. I think he went back to the panini demo table at least 5 times… I lost count after 3.

2. Drink a mimosa. And finish off Miss Latte’s when she’s not looking. On my way home, I wondered out loud what had happened to my almost-full mimosa. He knew exactly where and when I had left it. Fishy.

3. Make new friends. Mr. Latte’s new friend was Jim, the Shun Knives specialist. As Mr. L gazed longingly at his favorite registry items, knives, Jim told us about the differences between the knives and gave us some helpful suggestions to think about as we registered for them.

We had a good time that morning and left with full stomachs, our free gift, and 2 completed TO DO lists. This event is going on at their stores around the country until early March, so you can still sign up!

Anyone else planning on going to this C&B event? Share tips for a successful trip with the hive!

Don’t tell Mr Latte, but you actually get given the wonderful heart-shaped bowl whenever you set up a registry at Crate & Barrel, not just at one of their ‘parties’. No free waffles though :)

I actually attended one this past weekend and had my first mimosa! (:
I went with my sister (MOH) and she held the gun for me. We visited the panini table twice which prompted me to register for that lovely appliance!

I’m hoping to go to the SF one also. I walked by C & B yesterday and saw the sign. I went inside and found that there was a waiting list for all the remaining dates (Feb. 15, 22; March 1). I’m on the waiting list for all of the above and hope to make it inside. I think that my Mr. Double Cap will have a to-do list similar to your Mr. Latte!

Ha ha, that’s great! I am taking FI to this event when they host it 2 weeks from now. We haven’t registered anywhere yet, so I’m hoping this will demonstrate how much fun registering can be for the Mr too!

Oh, Shun knives! We’re registering for Wusthof’s and I can wait to start our collection.

Sweet of Mr. Latte to come along with you like that, even if he was marching to the beat of his own drum… ;-)

they had free heart shaped bowls huh? you could use them at your wedding… I wonder if they planned that? Maybe next year they should do heart shaped candlestick holders or a heart-shaped cake serving set?

I didn’t get to attend any of the events, but if you go to C&B ti register they still give you the free gift (a heart-shaped glass bowl). I wish we could have gotten in on some of that mimosa and waffles action though!

We’re going this Sunday :)

I’m excited about the mimosas and the bowl (which they didn’t give us even though we’ve already started our registry)!

We didn’t end up going to one of these, but if I had known there were going to be free waffles, I would have done our registry in person.

I love Mr. Latte’s to-do list! I didn’t know C&B did this — what a great idea. Waffles + Mimosas = My Kind of Registry Experience :)

@Miss Latte: Wow you were in my neck of the woods last weekend!!! And we went to the same event right before our wedding last year and Jim was awesome. He is so knowledgeable and he answered our questions about differences between Shun and Henckels, best of all he was honest. We got the Shun knives and we **HEART** them so much!

I went C&B’s Wedding Party here in MD with my mom and my MOH. We had a great time. I definitely recommend it if they are having one in your area. They demonstrated lots of their gadgets and had lots of yummy food.

@MagPie518: I think we’re currently registered for both Shuns and Wusthof’s…and we all thought that the brides were the indecisive ones!
@Jasmine: Same here! I didn’t get a bowl until the event.
@Lillindy: That is hilarious that Jim was there again! He was so helpful.
@Miss Glitter: Haha go and demand your handblown heart shaped glass bowl, girl! :)

We are going to the C&B Wedding event in Chestnut Hill this Sunday. I’ve got to be honest - it was the promise of waffles that made me cave. I hear about this event from 3 unrelated sources - my future MIL, my MOH and a random email. Either C&B has a great marketing team, or the have been personally stalking me and mine. (Maybe both?)

We went about 2 weeks ago, it was alot of fun minus the waking up early part :) We didnt have any of the food except for the potatoes at one of the demo tables. I did, however, have about 5 or 6 mimosas! They were walking around the whole time with trays and kept giving us more. Way more OJ than vodka :)
