About Mrs. Apple Cider

Three of my best friends are married and I have learned so much from each of them. I wanted to share a picture from each of their weddings and the lessons I learned.

Devon was married in May 2006. I was so lucky to be a big part of this wedding from helping her find the perfect dress in NYC, to making the invitations together. What I learned from Devon was that the day is about you. The stress, worries and dramas will all fade on your wedding day, and on that day there will be no doubts, no questions—just peace.

Heidi was married in June 2007. Her wedding was on the incredible Lake Wylie and was amazing. What I learned from Heidi was that weddings are about family, about the people who have been in your life and impacted you. Weddings are about the melding of 2 families, no matter how hard that might be.

Heidi’s brother Weston, a Marine, was unable to make it to the wedding because he was serving in Iraq. Heidi’s mother-in-law was able to arrange a video phone call between the bride and her brother. It was completely moving and emotional. Here is a clip from the Charlotte Observer. They did a story about Heidi’s big day and her brother. You can read it here.

Jaime was married in August 2007. Her wedding was in her hometown of Mt. Holly, at the new gorgeous White Water center in NC. I learned a lot from Jaime. :) I learned to think outside of the box and to just be calm. I also learned that the day should be all about what you want it to be, and that it is about family. Jaime was drama-free and so easy to be around on her big day.

I just read the story about your friend Heidi and almost started bawling at my desk. What a special moment for her!

More to the point of your post - I am the last one in my group of friends to be married so I have lots of lovely ladies who are helping me keep everything in perspective :-)

I’m the first of my friends and most of my family to get married! (I have one cousin that got married in ‘03 but I was too young to care much about the details)

I do have a lot of help from families, but not much “been there, done that” advice. How awesome to have all that experience and support so close!

I was (and am) the first one. I wished anybody could understand how big it is to plan a wedding (your wedding). But now I am the one understanding it for the others!

I am the first of my friends to get married, so its hard when I am in wedding mode, and no one else seems to understand why talking about a color for table linens for a few hours is completely apporopriate sometimes! Luckily I have a planner who I can blab to, and weddingbee to feed my obsession! I do wish I had some advice like this from friends though!

I’ve learned so much from my best friends’ weddings (and my stint as a professional bridesmaid). I learned that doing everything yourself isn’t worth it. I’ve learned to not sweat the small stuff. I’ve seen how important it is to enjoy the day because all your favorite peope are in one place!

I red your friend Hiedi’s story. I think it is simply wonderful that her new family went through so much to give her and her family a little joy. That is beautiful.

Unfortunately, I learned from my BF wedding that I want my day to be personal and not a show. Even though I loved her to death there were no emotional moments to her wedding and I am a major cryer (i’ve cried at stranger’s weddings). Her wedding felt like a soap opera, all show. I don’t want that…

OMG you made me cry at work! Heidi’s story is beautiful. I am the first to go =( So no lessons learned but I’m excited to be able to help my besties on their day. I guess that was on of my callings in life.

I’m the first in my crowd to get married, really, so I don’t have any wisdom from other brides to use as I plan. I guess that’s why I love Weddingbee!

I had NO ONE to get advice from, but everyone I know seems to be getting married now so hey are all getting advice from me. The great ideas I did get probably mostly came from Weddingbee.

A friend of mine got married two years ago. She was a huge ball of stress. She had over 10 DIY projects but refused help from everyone. Despite us all offering. So the lesson learned is to accept help! She would have enjoyed the process more and it would have been a fun bonding time to all hang out and work on the details together.

:)

That story made me cry! That’s absolutely amazing!

As for learning from others’ weddings, I’ve definitely picked up some things here and there.

Such a sweet story.

I learned after one friend’s wedding that I definitely wanted a DOC. I learned from another friend how important it is to make opportunities for quality time with people who are coming in for your wedding, even if its running out for coffee the day before.

hee hee…I learned to make sure the reception venue is no more than 20 minutes away from the ceremony site…especially if you are in rural CT :)

I was a bridesmaid in my MOH’s wedding and we stopped by McDonalds on the way to the wedding because she was hungry! Talk about laid back!!! The thing that pissed me off…but not even her…was that people saw that she had a veil on and we all had makeup and hair done and no one let us in front of the very long line!!! But it was a very nice and fun wedding…also about family and being relaxed and having a day about yourself, your fiance, and your family and friends.

I learned to spend time with people after the wedding is over… even if it means postponing quiet time with your brand new husband. My good friend and her husband came to our after-party and we had a ball, even though I know she must have been exhausted and craving sleep. It was so great.
