About Mrs. Deviled Egg

Have you heard about this? There are four (yes, FOUR!) sisters from Maryland, all with wedding dates in 2009! It’s crazy, right?

The Whitaker family from Annapolis will get their fill of weddings this year as three of their daughters (Kimberly, Lindsay and Kelly) join the ranks of the married, just as their younger sister Katie did a few weeks ago on January 17th. Kimberly and her fiance will wed May 1st, while Lindsay will marry June 13th and Kelly will marry in October.

Can you imagine?

My oldest sister was married in August of 2000 and my other sister was married in June 2001. A few months before the August wedding, my brother and his girlfriend announced they would be married in July 2000. Two short weeks before the other wedding. In Michigan. Over 800 miles away.

Two weddings in 10 months didn’t seem too bad to me, but three in 11 months was a little crazy. However, all three had different ceremonies and three very different receptions. (It can be done!) Needless to say, my family, now experts on proper Electric Slide execution, was wedding-ed out. They were also relieved that I had no plans to marry anytime soon.

In the case of the Whitaker family, the situation is a little different. Aside from all of the normal sister drama that could have unfolded, there was also the possibility for step-sister drama and youngest-sister-getting-married-first drama. Instead of starting arguments and fights over plans, they seemed to have embraced their unique situation by enjoying the overlapping engagement periods and assisting each other with their planning. If you are having issues with a sibling being engaged and planning at the same time you are, these four young ladies have set a great example for how to use the experience to bring you closer together.

And, think about their mom and dad who are contributing financially to the events. I’m sure they never thought all of their daughters would marry so close together. However they, too, are embracing the situation and hoping for a similar boom in welcoming grandchildren. But first, mom has to shop for four different mother of the bride dresses. Yikes!

Do any of you have a wedding date close to that of a sibling’s? How are you handling the situation?

One of Mr. PN’s brothers got married in Mexico in June (4 months before us) and his other brother had their first baby in July. My brother was also supposed to get married in August but they postpone the wedding. Even still, it was a very, very crazy year for us!!

I couldn’t imagine 4 weddings in the immediate family. Talk about wedding overload!!

It can be done, but I just cannot fathom the cost to everyone (including the guests, there has to be overlap), that would be my one concern! :)

I sent this to my dad as I am the oldest of 4 girls. I have one younger sister who is already married and the other two are in college. He didn’t know how to handle all 4 girls getting married at all, let alone all in one year! The Whitaker girls seem to be handling it well!

I saw this the other day! They did seem to be very gracious about it all…if my sister got engaged and set the date a few weeks after mine I’d be upset!!

I have two younger sisters, but they’re both years away from marriage…so no trouble there!

I emailed this article to my parents yesterday, it definitely cheered them up! They now know they don’t have it as bad as some…with 3 girls, we’re having 3 weddings in a 1.5 year timeframe.

Things have been a little wedding-crazy in our family lately!

What a great story! My sister and I are almost exactly a year apart. We have three other cousins we are super close to getting married within the same year, so it is a lot of fun planning!

Yes. :-( Mr. MagPie’s brother and fiancee set their date (AFTER us) for two months before us…seems way to close for comfort, in our opinions.

I saw this, how crazy! I have had a great experience wedding planning with my sister, but others have made it a nightmare. I wish more people could see the positive side of a situation like this!

My fiance’s brother and sister are also marrying their SOs in 2009. So, their family has a wedding in June, in September and ours in October.

My only sibling is getting married in July of this year, and I am getting married in October. I think they are far enough apart not to cause too much grief for people, and they are both very close to home for our families.

I will be attending 3 wedding in 3 weeks this summer, and am feeling quite overwhelmed. They are on back to back weekends. The first two are in Poland, and the third will be in Chicago (quite a trip from my native Toronto). The first wedding is for a cousin on my dad’s side, the second is a cousin from my mom’s side, and the third is my fiance’s cousin! Not attending one is out of the question, as we are very close with all three cousins!

boy and I thought our situation was bad.

FI’s brother is getting married in Oct 2009, us in Jan 2010 and his cousin in the summer 2010. Not nearly as crazy.

I really feel bad for the family. Think of all the money they must have to spend on attire and gifts X(

HOLY MOLY — what a crazy year for this family! We had 3 cousins (all sisters) get married in one year, and their mom made all of their dresses!

Thanks for sharing. :)

My sister and I were engaged at the same time (She’s now married) and it had some great challenges, but it also brought us closer together.
She had a December destination wedding in Maui (to which I wasn’t going to be able to go for financial reasons) and I am having an at home wedding with local family and friends at my Mum’s house. Although our weddings are very different, the experience of making that life transition at the same time has brought us closer, and we love each other so much that we could never feel slighted by the other’s decision. People keep commenting about “our poor parents” which I think is a pretty big assumption (albeit a socially accepted one, it seems).

my exSIL planned her wedding for a month after my first wedding back in 2000. I couldn’t attend because I had used up all my time off and we were tight on cash.

My little brother is nowhere near getting married, but because I’m finishing a degree at a private Christian school, it seems like ALL my friends are getting married this summer! I can think of at least four weddings besides my own that I’ll be attending, one of which I am a bridesmaid in.

I know it seems like a lot, but I’m honestly really looking forward to all the craziness. Besides, with my parents and my fiance far away, it’s super fun to have so many people around to bounce ideas off of! :)
