My Vintage Valentine

February 11th, 2009 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Taffy

Today Mom Taffy and I spent the day together doing some wedding bonding (and work!). Our main goal was to find the perfect centerpiece vase. We are able to save quite a lot of money on flowers by providing vases to the florist, but he requires that you bring one into his shop for his approval before buying them in bulk. My first vase failed to be approved, so we were determined to find a winner today.

The second goal was to look through antique stores for my bridal jewelry. We struck out in the jewelry area, but hit the jackpot with this cute vintage Valentine, which will be perfect for Mr. Taffy!

The inside…

How cute is this??? I have a few sewing themed vintage Valentines that I used to keep pinned up in my studio, but this one is so perfect for us. The two little birds remind me of our adorable pet canaries, and we started a garden together this past summer. I love that the original date and name are written on the card. But should I erase them before giving this to Mr. Taffy?

We did also find a vase, and dropped it off for florist approval (I hope!). I had the best time with my mom today, and we found some amazing deals at the antiques store that she will be using for our bridal shower. I won’t be able to reveal them for a while, but I promise they are worth the wait!

Have you found amazing wedding deals while antiquing?

I found perfect antique handkerchiefs for my mom and FMIL as part of their wedding gifts at my local antique store! Lace perfection.

That is a such an adorable valentine! I wouldn’t erase it, it just adds character. I love buying old mason jars for my centerpieces at thrift stores. I don’t know if it’s the thrill of the hunt or something.

Miss Taffy! As a fellow Ann Arbor bride, can I ask who you are working with for floral? I’m on the hunt for someone reasonably priced and will let me cut costs by bringing in vases, etc.
Thanks!

I have huge binders full of every Valentine my aunt (passed away in 2002) ever received in her whole life. There are a lot of cute vintage ones in there, I just don’t know what to do with them!

Taffy & Boothbride: This may be totally obvious, but have you guys tried TreasureMart? I stocked up on, uh, about 25-30 different mason jars/vases last summer for May wedding this year. Also found a fabulous necklace that was a brooch which I turned into a hairpiece.

@boothbride: I just sent you a pm with the details! :)

@KD2009: I haven’t been to treasure mart since December! I should go and check it out. :)

Ooh! No, don’t erase. Just add 2009 and your name. Maybe someone else will pass it on one day. (Sigh… how romantic…)

We don’t do Valentine’s but I do love this card. Never even thought to go to antique stores for wedding jewelry - thanks for the idea! I love sifting through stuff in antique stores, why I didn’t think of this is beyond me.
