About Mrs. Cheese

***This is NOT a test of the emergency Bee-roadcast System. This is for real.***

According this article, the price of stamps will go up by two cents in May.

The U.S. Postal Service announced Tuesday that the price of a first-class stamp will rise to 44 cents on May 11.

That gives plenty of time to stock up on Forever Stamps, which will continue to sell at the current 42-cent rate until the increase occurs. They will remain valid in the future regardless of rate hikes.

While the new 44-cent rate covers the first ounce of first-class mail, the price for each additional ounce will remain unchanged at 17-cents.

I’m thinking that two cents won’t break anybody’s budget, but forgetting and having all of your bee-oo-tiful invites returned for insufficient postage would be… ugg, horrible. So do take note!

***This concludes this Bee-roadcast System message.***

Thanks for the update! I was wondering if/when the Postal Service was going to do this again. Here’s hoping for some cute 44 cent designs! ;-)

FYI…Postcard stamps are going up by 1 cent to 28 cents each in May as well for any postcard RSVP or STD brides! I am doing both of those and now I will be stuck with 30 leftover stamps from my STD’s that will be 1 penny short for my RSVP’s..ugh!

So good for the warning. I am not worried about our invites, but our RSVP’s are due back on May 1!! In fear of late responses, I guess I’ll use the forever stamps!!

Hmmm I think I’ll have to invest in some forever stamps before the rate hike, since our invites will go out after May

Thanks for posting this! I know I bought our stamps early (I was afraid the style would be discontinued), so now I know to use them up!

Thanks for the warning! I love the “Bee-roadcast” — the ‘bee should tuck that one away to use for announcements in the future! :)

You are so funny! But seriously, what a pain to purchase additional 2 cent stamps. And they are wondering why people are not using the USPS anymore???

Too hilarious! Seriously though, darn post office! Guess I better stock up on those forever stamps (just wish they had cuter designs).

The price of stamps goes up EVERY year, and the changes are announced in February. This should be something that brides should know to watch out for. Perhaps a wiki article, or addendum to the invitations article?

Also, the forever stamps may be convenient in this case but they aren’t a good deal. Given inflation, it’s actually cheaper to buy stamps at the current rate (unless a stamp goes up to a ridiculously high price).

One last little rant: why do people complain about the price of postage? For 42 cents, someone will transport a letter cross-country, door-to-door. It’s a deal, it’s a steal… I won’t finish that quote.

You forgot to mention that people can buy the forever stamps, which sell for the current first class, 1 oz regular envelope size price, and are good for that mail forever. Great for RSVPs, thank you cards, and wedding announcements. Not so great for wedding invites because invites are usually heavier and/or odd shaped and have to be hand stamped.

@Houligan: I love that quote! I, personally, don’t care about the two cents, but I do care to have all of my RSVP’s returned to sender because I forgot. :)
