Table Numbahs

February 12th, 2009 @ 6:30 pm by Mrs. Champagne

Well we’re at that point where we’ve finalized our seating chart, and things are really falling into place! I’ve been a little MIA lately, but have every intention to show you what I’ve been working on. First off, I’ll show you our place cards and table numbers. We fooled around with the idea of using “love” or “I love you” in different languages, and here’s what we got:

And for a little close-up action, here are our choices. We used our engagement photos from Girls With Big Cameras as a background, so be prepared for some lovey dovey crap. I had them printed at a local camera shop and taped two pictures back to back on some leftover antique gold cardstock.

Now, some of these languages didn’t exactly fit the typical “romance languages” we had originally thought about, but we picked the ones that were relatively easy for people to identify and pronounce.

We’ll be sitting here!

My dad’s side of the family will be traveling from Minnesota and to honor their Swedish heritage, we’ll sit them at this table:

We’ll sit Champ’s Irish side of the family here:

And for the Italian folks (his dad’s side of the family):

When our guests arrive, they’ll find their table number on a CD place card. I Goccoed them with the same monogram that we used on our invitations and actually used the same belly band on our CDs that were on the invites.

006

Using Mrs. Tiramisu’s 1-inch round paper cutter, I was able to send these to our calligrapher. I attached the table name to the back of the CD.

Okay, I don’t know what’s wrong with my camera skills but I couldn’t get a clear picture without a flash, so sorry about the blurry picture.

What sort of place cards are you using?

We’re naming our tables after destinations on our honeymoon, because we’re touring Western Europe together, and many of our guests will have contributed to the trip through our honeymoon registry. To keep with the theme, I’m doing luggage tags as table cards!

I love those, Miss Champ! They’re so sweet and very unique. What’s in the CD placecards? I like how in the picture with the Thai language, it looks like your e-ring is shooting out a laser beam of light!

Indian isn’t a language! There are hundreds of dialects in India- Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, etc.

prem means love in Hindi, not Indian

@Anon: We’re actually not even using that one, I just posted all the ones I made. We had less people RSVP yes than we originally planned, so we just took out some tables. I guess it’s a good thing we took out that one!

Your table cards are great! Did you add the text to the photos yourself before printing or is that an extra layer of paper?

Love them! “Prem” means love in Hindi. There is no such thing as speaking “Indian.”

Sorry to be a stickler but there’s no such language as “Indian.” India has hundreds of languages. Hindi and English are the national languages of India but each state has its own recognized language. For instance, if you were to grow up in India, you would learn English, Hindi and your state’s recognized language as part of the mandatory curriculum. As far as I know “Prem” is love in Hindi and Gujarati.

I love this idea and your minpin. I want ours to be in our engagement photos so badly - but he would not stay still enough all day while we’d want to take them without him.

The picture table numbers are a great idea. My cousin did them with family members holding up the table numbers. It was actually the most memborable part of her centerpiece. They gave CDs as favors as well, and its a very touching, get to know the couple better gift.

I still have no idea what I will be doing for our table numbers..Our wedding theme is the “Perfect Pair” so we are leaning towards Pairs for the table numbers i.e. Tom & Jerry, Mario & Luigi, Peanut Butter & Jelly etc…

The place cards seem very elegant for me

Those are adorable table cards! We are using pictures of our two dogs, Ole and Lucky, as table numbers! Only one of them can be “in” the wedding, but both can still be a part of the reception throught the table numbers!!

hi, was just passing by, just to let you know that “Malaysian” isn’t a language but a nationality (i.e. people who live in malaysia are called Malaysian).

“Malay” is the language, and “Sayang” doesn’t mean Love, but is a verb, meaning to coddle. It is commonly used as “Dear” (as in, darling, dear). If you want to say Love in Malay, it’s “Cinta”, pronounced chin-tah. (in Malay, the C’s are pronounced like a “ch”)

@Miss Sapphira: sorry, I just got back from the honeymoon- I used Chopin script for the table numbers and the calligrapher did the actual names on the cds as well as the table name on the back… hope that helps!

how did you get the wording on the photos? Photoshop??

I’m going to admit that I’m going to copy this idea…but instead of ‘Love’ in different languages I’m just going to write the numbers ‘ONE’, ‘TWO’..ect…hope it’s ok!! They’re so perfect and such an inexpensive way to personalize the wedding!

I’m also wondering how you did the wording. I was going to do this all along with the words “One”, “Two”, etc. but I am having an awful time doing it. I was doing it in PowerPoint and then doing a “Save as Picture” but if my words are even remotely close to the edge of the picture, it is adding blank white space around the picture. Help!
