About Mrs. Lemonade

My family has a curse. It has afflicted my mother, father, sister and myself. It is the curse of horrible handwriting (seriously, we should all be doctors!).

When the task of addressing our beautiful Arturo envelopes came to mind, I started to have a mini panic attack as I imagined my awful scrawl splattered all over the front of the cottony goodness. Labels were always an option, but somehow I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I spent many hours researching calligraphy and found myself fantasizing about the incredible work of Laura Hooper and Michele Clark. Unfortunately these lovely ladies were completely out of my price range.

As they say, timing is everything, and as my dreams of calligrapher envelopes were about to be dashed, one of my favorite bridal bloggers opened her own calligraphy shop! It was fate, I tell you! Sarah’s work is beautiful and classic and she has been a joy to work with!!

These babies are on their way back to me as we speak:

How are you addressing your invitations?

We must be related, because my handwriting is equally illegible. I’m going to have a professional take care of that part, I’m just too scared to try anything myself!!

I might use a script font and print it on the envelope. I’m too dependent on my printer. I hate to write things out by hand! :-)

I too, have horrid handwriting! I get pangs of jealousy around holidays and special occasions, when I receive cards with the beautiful handwriting of friends and relatives. I know I can never send out those cute cards with bubble-handwriting telling everyone how much I love them! Instead, people get chicken scratch that looks like a fifth grader wrote it! :(

I’m artistic and can draw really well, but I think I must have some kind of dyslexia that makes handwriting impossible. I don’t know how I graduated college because essay exams always took me soooo long to do because my handwriting is slow and my hand cramps up after writing for like 15 seconds!

I hate looking at my handwriting. On the flip side, I had giving up the control of addressing my envelopes! I could have had my designer print the addresses on the envelopes, but I couldn’t stand to give up the mail merge to someone else.

Fortunately, we’re pulling a typewriter font throughout things, so I’m just going to do some cute labels. Also, since I work for a non-profit, it’s essential that I be a queen of mail merges!

Michele did our calligraphy — very affordable and her turnaround time was amazing.

I addressed each of our envelopes. They’re legible but eons away from looking as fabulous as these. They’re so unique!
