Mrs. Crab Cake's Picture
Mrs. Crab Cake, Columbus, GA Age and Occupation: 25, Registered Nurse Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Director of Education and Living History for a museum Engagement Date: April 6, 2008 Wedding Date: June, 2009 Blogging Since: November 26, 2008 Venue: Holy Family Catholic Church, reception: National Infantry Museum About Me: I'm a perfectionist trying to balance two jobs, motherhood, my craft obsession, and wedding planning. I am obsessed with all things wedding, especially creative ideas for saving money and DIY projects. A Southern Belle at heart, I love anything southern, especially sweet tea, grits, afternoon thunder storms, crab cakes, and good old Southern hospitality. Mr. Crab Cake and I are planning a vintage inspired wedding with tons of Southern flare (can y'all say that with a thick Southern drawl?).
About Mrs. Crab Cake

Last week, Mr. CC and I went to the bakery to taste cake (yum!) and picked out designs and whatnot for our cupcakes. I’m a bad blogger and didn’t take a single picture. However, we were only there for about 20 minutes.

Since we decided on cupcakes, and I felt stupid cutting a tiny cupcake, we decided to get a 6 inch cutting cake. But, I forgot to decide what it was going to look like.

Y’all probably don’t know this about me yet, but I’m a total fiber snob. Since textiles are my medium of choice, I swoon over silks, cottons, linens, and other natural fibers. My skin actually crawls when I just think about polyester. Blech. So… what does that have to do with cake?

I found these great cakes inspired by fabrics on Martha a while ago, and then they showed up in my email box today.

(The Eyelet Cake)

I totally heart the eyelet cake and the crewelwork cake. They are both so simple and pretty. But which should we choose? We’re going for a subtle vintage theme.

Oh, and we picked out three different kinds of cupcakes, red velvet with cream cheese frosting, vanilla with dark chocolate, and chocolate with buttercream. We told the baker we wanted the buttercream to be a pale pink, but with the brown icing on the vanilla, and I’m thinking that might look a little weird. It would be a different story if our colors with chocolate and pink. Do you think we should go back and either get rid of the chocolate, and have all the frosting pink, or just leave the buttercream an ivory color?

Here’s what we want them to look like, except without the little flower.

I love the pink! Maybe switch? But I’m sure the chocolate will look great — if anyone stops to LOOK before they eat :)

I love those fabric cakes!!! I am no help, as I like them all!
I am the same with you, I detest synthetic fabric. I can tell immediately if I am trying something on in a store that has polyester, even just a little. My skin feels like it can’t breathe. *shudders* One of the reasons I went for my dress is because it was all silk.

CREWELWORK! What are your wedding colors? I’d say either match your wedding colors or go with ivory for the cupcakes.

I love the eyelet one! It’s subtle, and I’ve always been partial to eyelets. What are your colors? (I did a quick scan and couldn’t find them. Could just be that it was TOO quick a scan!)

I say go for the eyelet cake!! That fits a vintage theme…

I’d switch the cupcake colors, although I prolly wouldn’t notice since I’d be gobbling them down!!

Hehe every time I see a damask cake/invite/etc. I am instantly reminded of the 60’s/70’s wallpaper that takes over the funeral home where I work. Half of it is goldish with bright red velvet damask and matching red carpet. The other rooms are beige with ivory velvet damask and lavender carpet… I don’t think I’m taking any color ideas from there with me… I like the concept of damask though. Very elegant, but in some cases like I stated, overkill!

I love the Matelasse! It is incredible! :)

Between you with the gorgeous cakes and D’orsay with the cutie cake stands…I am jealous that I’m having a measly rum cake (free, though). I’ll have to dress it up or something!!
