Decor Inspired by Martha

February 13th, 2009 @ 12:01 pm by Mrs. Duckling

I wanted to share some decor inspirations from Martha Stewart. Every time I see a Martha Stewart magazine I feel like I am on overload with ideas. Even her “non-wedding” magazines have things that you can add to your wedding. Below are some photos from her general entertaining and crafts.

Wouldn’t these butterflies and lanterns be perfect for an outdoor whimsical garden wedding?

These simple jelly jar lanterns would look great on some cocktail tables while people mingle before the reception. They’re budget friendly, too!

How about these bamboo candle centerpieces? If you don’t want to spend too much on florals, this is a great alternative. I just love candles!

Look how unique these candles are… just use two vases, and fill the outer one with tinted water. I can imagine this in a chic wedding with all white decor and then a pop of color with the colored water. To make it a little more fancy I would scatter some orchids around the vases.

How about using some metal beach buckets and painting them in your colors?

Another simple and clean decor idea for a chic cocktail reception as your guests gather around the pool area.

What kind of “non-wedding” things have you found inspiration in?

My FI designed our centerpieces based on inspiration from a Jason Mraz music video!! He’s also a shoe designer, so he gets a lot of inspiration from fashion magazines…gotta hand it to him for getting involved in the reception!!

I gotta say, Martha has been very good to my budget, which I really didn’t expect. Let’s be honest–alot of the “real weddings” in Martha mags are beautiful, but they are often far from low budget. But, Martha has really jumped on the band wagon when it comes to picnic/garden/relaxed patio style wedding decor and has given me tons of tips. Paper lanterns, painted re-purposed pail, and craft paper wrapped cans (as flower holders) are all part of my wedding decor, and were surprisngly easy on my meager budget. I’m most proud of my tissue pom pom pomanders though. As Mrs. Penguin can attest, so many flowers go into one pom!

Love Martha. The colored water is such an easy and inexpensive trick to match decor. And I adore the butterfly lanterns. They would even look great with birds or bees attached. Such a cute idea.

Oh I think I’m definitely stealing the beach bucket idea and painting them. I really want something colorful, and this would be a cheap alternative to actually buying colored vases!
