I Dream of Cake Stands…

February 13th, 2009 @ 1:09 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

I really do. I started dreaming about cake stands after I saw this one on Mrs. Penguin’s blog. Le swoon:

I let my mind wander to the cake buffet idea and decided to seek out cake stands to share with you all. I bake all the time so I can easily justify cake stands as wedding/life purchases. I can’t really purchase any cake stands in England because I worry about their fragility in transit. So I’ll just share my daydreams with the hive.

Sunny Yellow? Why yes… I did just add this to our registry…

(source)

It’s also available in olive and chiffon.

I’m not usually a huge glass cake stand fan, or the “plate attached to base” cake stands. But I think this city cake plate is adorable!

(source)

I like the details on this one - but would I honestly use it past the wedding day?

(source)

Oh Martha, why do you do this to me? I can’t find this one anywhere, but I think it’s very pretty.

(source)

Poppies? Cake? Cake stand? Yes please!

(source)

There are tons of gorgeous milk glass and jadeite cake stands on eBay - I had to fight the power to bid! Cake stands are the one wedding purchase I can think of that I’m quite happy with making. Particularly because I know I’ll continue to use them long after August. Thanks for following along in my cake stand daydream!

Are you making any combo wedding+life purchases?

I am doing the same thing! My mom and I have been collecting them for the wedding and I think they will make such a nice memento after the wedding!

I’ve never really thought about cake stands before, but some of these are amazing. I bake all the time, so I think I need to add a pretty cake stand to our registry. Right now. :)

I don’t know where I saw it, but I recall a cake stand that had ribbon woven through the ceramic design — so pretty, and very versatile!

Get the stands, and don’t worry about using them after the wedding. I’ve put donuts, biscuits, candles and everything else you can think of on mine. Everyday things with a little lift..its the small things your possible future kids will remember…

absolutely wonderful!!! Miss D, we’re thinking along the same lines here! But I must ask - you’re using ebay.co.uk? Or ebay.com and mailing to mom’s? I love ebay!! It’s like the Good Will filled with everything you actually wanted.

I’m obsessed with cake stands right now for the same reason! Every time FH and I go out I find cake stands I need, right now I have too - I REALLY want that first one you have up there :) I can’t wait to see how your cake buffet turns out too.

Ugh, I have been searching for the perfect cake stand, but the pretty ones are too small or too expensive. Is there any such thing as an 18-inch glass pedestal cake stand? Or is that just too dangerous for the cake??

I’m doing a cake buffet with several different cake stands, but my favorite cake stand made it into our centerpieces. I bought enough for half the tables and put together a little creation under a bell jar on top of the cake stand. Family members will be taking the cake stands after the wedding (of course I’ll take one myself).

My post is already live and I’m STILL looking at cake stands - here is a pretty pink glass one http://www.amazon.com/Pink-Depression-Glass-Cake-Stand/dp/B000SPKAVG/ref=pd_sim_k_1
@tiggah77: anytime!
@Erin-Kelley: I could see an 18 inch pedestal being dangerous, I’ll keep looking for you!@Miss Rye Bread: Thanks! I checked ebay.com, ebay.co.uk breaks my heart - how can I bring it back safely? I’ve see gorgeous cake stands in the charity shops here, Mr. D has to tell me no :(

Not only do I want dark purple as a wedding color… I am a huge fan of Fenton Art Glass, specifically in Aubergine. I’ve been drooling over this cakeplate for a lonnnnng time… and I love how they display it with a candle so you can have some ideas on how to use it between baking occasions!!!

Here it is!!

Looking at those beautiful stands just makes me start dreaming of baking all sorts of Valentines goodies just to put on them. Petits fours, macaroons, coconut cake, sugar cookies with pink icing… How sweet would that be at a Valentines day wedding?

I’m partial to yellow so I’m loving the one you just added to your registry! I justified our gocco as a wedding/life purchase thinking we would use it to create christmas cards and such. we shall see! :)

I’ve never been a bird person, but I want the bird one. I’ve recently been looking at cupcake stands as well. Totally unnecessary, but totally adorable.

I love cake stands! We are trying only make purchases of things that we can use later after the wedding. I don’t really want to figure out what to do with a gizzilion tea light holders.

I’ve been drooling over cake stands for awhile. I’m in love with an etsy seller, but they’re so expensive!
