Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.
About Mrs. Perfume

A couple months ago, on Boxing Day, we went to Brooks Brothers for their after-Christmas sale to see if we could find a suit for Mr. P to wear to the wedding (as I’ve mentioned before, I’d prefer for him not to wear his tux). I know, I know. Brooks Brothers? Classic, but boxy. Great for most American men, who tend to be a bit brawnier. Mr. P is slim, broad shouldered, and lean. Perfect for a more European cut… and surprise, surprise! Brooks Brothers, the stalwart American men’s clothier, just got hip to streamlined silhouettes. Two years ago, BB signed with guest designer Thom Browne to create a sub-label called Black Fleece, an uber-premium line under the Brooks Brothers moniker. He was snatched up for his cutting edge cuts for which he earned the Council of Fashion Designers award for designer of the year. Known for his Mad Men-esque 1950s slim suits and high waters, his style has been adapted for the mass market.

Anyhoo, we found THE SUIT for Mr. P. I always imagined him in a slim, two-button, gray pin striped suit with peg legs and fine details. And voila. There it was. We had to get it. And the Brooks Brothers sale included an additional 15% off the sale price before 1PM. Thom Browne suits, BTW, are ridiculously priced. So we felt lucky to get one on sale! A great deal for such impeccable quality and detail. Button fly flat front pants, locker loop on the jacket, double vent flaps. Beautiful all-season wool. We’re having it basted and chose to have them apply the three button cuff rather than four. Mr P will go for his second fitting in a few weeks. He’s happy, I’m happy!

Are you opting for a suit rather than a tux? Where did you go to find your groom’s suit?

Love those suits! I’m still trying to convince Mr. Powder Puff to wear a suit. It’s a great look!

I love the suit idea. I am considering this for my fiance as well, but I don’t know what to do about the attire for the groomsmen… would they just wear rented suits?

We did the classic Men’s Wearhouse. The suit you scored sounds like it will be so stylish, though! Can’t wait to see it!

Mr. Quiche is wearing a suit as well. It’s from Calvin Klein & it is perfect for our tropical wedding. It is wool, but lightweight, & he can wear it for years after the wedding.

Due to my OCD regarding wrinkles, you can bet that his shirt is from BB. They rock.

Mr. Perfume will look hot in these suits!! Love them.

H O T

Mr. Rye’s wearing a suit also, but the jacket is brown corduroy (def with the fewer buttons, way more vogue)

That suit is hot! We went to the Brooks Brothers sale too! They do have a slim fit tux shirt, but they only carry the baggy ones in the stores. Mr. Taffy was sad that he couldn’t try it on first, but it fits great!

Just say no to the tux! YAY!
Fiance and I both had decided on a suit before ever actually talking about what he was going to wear. I had to convince him to try a grey one though… but he’s since seen the light. The amazing Calvin Klein suit we found at Macy’s was perfect. He only tried on one. It’s been hanging in my closet since the day after Thanksgiving. That reminds me it needs to be tailored.

Sweet, thanks Miss P! We’re now planning a trip to BB to find a suit for Mr P. Hopefully, we’ll find something to fit his slim figure.

What a great deal! I can’t wait to see the afterpics with Mr. P in his suit! You’re setting a whole new WB trend!

Sounds great! I love that your mister can wear his wedding-wear again. Mr. MagPie’s going the tux route, and we keep joking about how weird it is I’m going to be wearing a custom-tailored gown, and he’ll be in an outfit someone may have worn just the previous weekend!

Yes we are! AND we are just having all of the groomsmen wear their own black suit which is why many in my bridal party have named me the lazy bride. :) We did buy matching shirts and ties for all of the men - they will look dashing and will be able to wear the entire ensemble again!

Just went to have the first fitting for his suit this past weekend. He’s opted for black, but that grey- that’s just gorgeous.

Hmmm… anyone know if they women’s suits are available online or in Canada?

we are opting for a suit too, so he can wear it to other weddings and special occasions. he likes a charcoal gray color so we’ve been searching the malls.

@miss bean: We’re just having them wear navy suits.

@purpleHaze79: Thanks, PH!

@Miss Piglet: He’d look great in one of these!

@shaver2b: @Miss Quiche: Calvin Klein=can’t go wrong!
