About Mrs. Piglet

And They’re Off

February 17th, 2009 @ 6:41 pm by Mrs. Piglet

Fly fly away! We dropped our Save the Dates in the mail today. It’s quite a feeling of accomplishment to finish a craft project. I’ve been known to have problems following through on projects of this nature, but nevertheless, we done yo! I feel like I’ve beaten a dead horse as far as sharing our experience, but I have to close the loop and show you the finished product!

And here they are…

std1

As you may recall, we had issues burning the screen, which eventually led to our demise.

Ultimately, we ended up printing the tickets on my Canon Pixma inkjet printer with fine results (aside from our bruised egos). Mr P used the ancient paper cutter to cut out each ticket, and rounded each corner with the (aptly named) rounded corner punch. My sister and I cut the butt cracks on the left hand side of the ticket the old fashioned way using a pair of scissors.

std2

We Goccoed the hibiscus on the front of the boarding pass.

ticketholder_template1

We didn’t print templates for the ticket holder. Instead, Mr P used the tick marks on the paper cutter to measure where to score the creases, and cut the diagonal line. We used double sided tape to create the pocket on the ticket holder… and voila… easy as pie.

std3

Oh, I almost forgot! They’re magnets. These ghetto fabulous magnets were created by yours truly. We took business card sized magnets, and cut them into quarter inch strips.

std4

And last but not least, the envelopes!

std5

Blurry shmurry. We Goccoed the return address, and addressed each envelope by hand. I exercised my power of veto and took over the addressing of the envelopes. Mind you, I am fully aware that the writing does not qualify as calligraphy, but rather, writing using a calligraphy pen. But I love them! :D

calligraphy1

That’s all folks! All in all, tons of fun.

These look AMAZING! We had the idea of doing boarding passes for save the dates too (our wedding is in Southern California, and 99% of guests — including us! — will be coming from somewhere else, most of them from overseas), but I doubt we could EVER have made them as fantastic as these. Absolutely love them. And I’m inspired by your handwriting: I’m hand-addressing mine tonight and am getting super nervous about doing them all so neatly!

They are beautiful! Great job!

By the way, I think you could definitely have a side job as a wedding envelope *addresser*! I am currently working on my invitations, and several stores that I have gone to offer “handwriting” by someone who isn’t a professional as an alternative to a professional calligrapher. They charge about $1.00 or 2.00 per outer envelope (instead of the normal $3-$5++) since they aren’t professionally trained. But that is definitely what I am going to do. I don’t have the budget to hire a true calligrapher, but I don’t have the handwriting to write them myself!

@Nothing But Bonfires: good luck! you’ll eventually get into a rhythm. and don’t sweat the goofs along the way… the guests will appreciate the personalized touch…

@BeachBrideT: i saw these on etsy! i couldn’t imagine how stressful it would be to do this for someone at a cost. while i can appreciate my goofs and inconsistencies, i doubt others will. :D

@Kimberly B.: i bought the sheaffer calligraphy mini kit from michaels. i think i paid ~$10-$15 dollars for the set plus a couple black cartridge refills.

@Luv2shop: totally worth it!

thanks, hive, for all the kind words! it makes the blood, sweat, and hair loss worth it in the end. :D

These are truly adorable. Everything from the ticket holder, to the calligraphy, to the magnets on the back adds to their charm. I am a wedding planner and crafter/scrapbooker and I always encourage my brides to add DIY elements to their weddings; why buy invitations when you can make them yourselves and make them better!

Miss Piglet you are the best! I went to Michaels to get the calligraphy set and immediately played with my handwriting. I love it! Thanks for sharing the information. I’ve always had good penmanship but was always unsure about the right supplies and therefore just never tried calligraphy tools.
