Mr. Latte Finally Pops the Question

February 17th, 2009 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Latte

…and the Latte wedding party is complete! As promised, Mr. Latte went to visit his favorite little girls this weekend, and with felt bouquets in tow, asked them to be our flower girls. They said yes and I’m so excited that they can both make it out to NYC for the wedding! They are so cute and will definitely steal the show on the big day. Don’t be surprised to see me up at the altar, turning around to sneak a peek at the cute girls all dressed up!

You saw our special little guys last week… are you ready for more cuteness???

(It was Valentine’s Day so Mr. L tied heart-shaped balloons to the bouquets.)

Now comes the fun (edit: hard) part.

Yet another dress search. I’ve seen a lot of flower girls walk (sometimes sprint) down the aisle in beautiful white dresses, so my initial thought was to have them wear white dresses with chocolate brown sashes to match the BM dresses. Clean, cute and classic. Done.

But then I saw Miss Peep Toe’s post about her fabulous flower girl dresses. They’re also clean, cute and classic. And they’re PINK. It was like a whole new world was suddenly opened in front of my sheltered eyes. So it was decided that the flower girls would wear pink. But… why stop there? What about chocolate brown dresses with pink sashes? Or pink dresses with chocolate brown sashes? Oh oh oh, how about pink dresses with white sashes?

Now this is where any normal bride (or human being) stops. But noooo, of course my brain wants to keep going. 2 girls mean double the possibilities! One girl can wear a white dress with a chocolate brown sash, and the other can wear a white dress with a pink sash! Or one can wear a pink dress with a white sash, and the other can wear a white dress with a pink sash! Or dare I go as far as to throw dark pink and moss green into the mix??? One in dark pink and white, the other in light pink and white. Or girls in white dresses with blue satin, er… I mean moss green colored sashes? (Darn that Fraulein Maria!)

(source)

See where this is going? Yup, absolutely nowhere. I feel like I need to scrounge up a #2 pencil and some yellow scrap paper to solve some kind of complicated math equation. As you can see, I’m confused and my brain is about to explode. Welcome to a day in the life of Miss Latte’s thoughts.

(source)

So, experienced brides and brides-to-be of the hive, I ask you: What color dresses will (or did) your flower girls wear? And if you have (had) more than one, did they wear the same thing?

They are adorable!
I think that kids are cute regardless, so my flower-kids* are just wearing whatever they want.
*That said, I’m inviting all kids at the wedding to do the flower duties, if they want to. The oldest has been designated the leader.

My wedding is going to be apple green, black and white. I found a black and white polka dot dress for my flower girl!

I’m having two FG’s and they will wear the same thing. Mine aren’t quite as small as yours so I had a difficult time finding dresses in their “growing girls” sizes. They will wear age appropriate black dresess with white accents and my BM’s will be in LBD’s.

Aww, they are just the cutest and I love that Mr. L asked them to be flower girls in such a special way–how fun for the girls! The one on the right has the funniest shirt–so cute!

Why don’t you ask your flower girls what color they would like to wear and tell them their options. So show they examples of the color combos you are thinking. You never know they might pick the same or different. Also they might not like the idea of wearing a brown dress with a little pink but would love a pink dress with a little brown.

Oh your FGs are equally adorable to your RBs!! My FG will be wearing a white dress with a yellow sash (yellow is what my MOH is wearing). But I think it would be cute to have them in opposite colors, one with dress color “A” sash color “B” and the other with dress color “B” sash color “A.” Anyway you do it they’ll still be adorable!!

Our colors are purple and green, and I didn’t want to dress our flower girls in white. Our two-year-old flower girl is wearing a purple Easter dress, and our newborn baby flower girl (well, she’ll be 4 months at the wedding) is wearing a little Easter dress that’s a pale green with purple embroidered flowers on it. Both ended up being from JCPenney, although we looked at all the department stores and Target for Easter-style dresses. There were some polka dot ones that I LOVED!

Oh how gorgeous these two little ones are!!! I think that flower girls dresses are best in a neutral color (white or ivory) with a colored sash if wanted.

These days (speaking as a parent who subjected her son to loads of pictures) many parents love to get professional portraits made of their little ones and alot of the studios tell them to wear a white dress (innocence I guess) or ivory. If you do that, the children can wear them again and detach the sash if they wish. Plus how cute would that be for Easter? Or a special family gathering?

I think of dresses for the entire party as investments. I don’t think my child (if were a girl) would get tons of wear out of a bright apple green dress. Now a timeless WHITE or ivory? Oh yea.

Our little girls wore yellow dresses that I picked up from Target around Easter time…never underestimate how perfect a little Easter dress can be for a spring/summer wedding. And since it isn’t “official wedding” gear it will cost a fraction of the price!

Your flower girls are so adorable!

Have you tried Wooden Soldier? They have a catalogue, a website and an outlet store in North Conway, NH.

I am hoping to find soemthing through them for my girls. I love classic white, but agree, color intrigues me.

We are considering navy and white for our nautical wedding.

@hwong14: Finding Easter dresses is a great idea! And they’re probably all out in the stores by now…
@bellenga: You are so very right. I would want them to get maximum wear so maybe white/ivory is the way to go.
@Melanie: That tiered dress is SO adorable!!! Never even thought to check gymboree…thanks for the great idea!

I just had one little girl and she wore diamond white. It was a preference her mom had, but I would not have been opposed to her wearing brown like the BMs.

Mine will be wearing yellow (like the BMs) but she will have a white sash….well at least that’s the plan. I have yet to find the perfect dress.

Your flower girls are cute! Our wedding colors are aqua, pink, and chocolate, and my 3-yr old flower girl is wearing a really cute aqua shalwar kameez (indian outfit) partly because she might get cold in a dress and she is so active, but also because the bridesmaids are wearing sarees so they will all kind of go together. I say, go crazy, and pick colors, instead of white, or even better, take them shopping and see what they gravitate towards.

I would do different color combos, but let them pick so they don’t fight for the ‘good’ color.

Oh Miss Latte, your FGs are so so cute! My little ones will be wearing these:

http://www.woodensoldier.com/browse/ensemble.aspx?cid=34&eid=299&bid=2&pgid=4&gid=-1&sid=-1

One of my nieces is going to be 6 and the other 2, so I definitely don’t want them in the same exact thing… but at least they’ll match. And who can resist the pink!!
