About Mrs. Powder Puff

Remember when I posted about my trip to Paper Source? And I was all happy and giddy about my envelope liner template? Well, I have something terrible to reveal to you all. Behold:

Ingenuity Is The Name Of The Game : wedding diy invitations stationery Img 011 Our envelopes and the template. Notice anything?

Ingenuity Is The Name Of The Game : wedding diy invitations stationery Img 01101 Yeah. Me too.

But peeps, if you have learned anything about me over the past few months, it should be this—I am a lazy, lazy bride. I love thinking about the big picture, but when I run into snafus in the details? Forget it. Which is exactly what I decided to do about the liners.

Well, I didn’t forget them completely. Oh no, it’s never that simple. You see, I still wanted liners. I was just too lazy to create a new template that would fit my envelopes. Instead, I lopped off the top of the liner to force them into fitting. Presto, chango, done! As Miss Snapdragon would say, I MacGyvered my way through it.

So here’s the step-by-step guide to lining your envelopes. Guerrilla-style.

First off, you need a comfy pair of slippers that makes your fiance laugh whenever you wear them.

Ingenuity Is The Name Of The Game : wedding diy invitations stationery Img 01102 Now that fashion is out of the way, you take your template and outline it on the paper. I went for adhesive wrapping paper (Mrs. Emerald gave me that tip!), which made adhering the liners to the envelopes SO much easier. I highly recommend it.

Ingenuity Is The Name Of The Game : wedding diy invitations stationery Img 01103 The other plus about the adhesive paper is if you’re using a template, it keeps it from sliding all over the place.

Ingenuity Is The Name Of The Game : wedding diy invitations stationery Img 012 The finished product. I can’t tell you how much time I spent agonizing over whether or not the fact that the liner doesn’t completely fill the envelope is a big deal. In the end, I decided that I have bigger fish to fry, and it doesn’t look all that bad. After hand-addressing and lining 78 of these bad boys, I am WAY over them.

Ta da! Thank goodness these are done!

If you’re making your own invitations, did you run into any unexpected problems?

I would have just made them square to fit the envelope. Might have saved you a whole bunch of time and stress. Just a few whacks with the paper cutter and you’re done!

how do you actually get the envelope liner into the envelope? do you cut enough for the entire length of the envelope and stuff it all in? do we have a diy page on this?

They’re so bright, bold and cheery! I doubt any of our guests will notice the nearly-precise lining — instead, they’ll be wowed by your attention to detail!

The SAME thing happened with our save-the-dates. I created my own template out of a file folder and made it work. The lines weren’t perfect, but I still thought they looked great. And if anyone said anything, I figured I’d just go Ally McBeal on them! Yours turned out great. Love the pop of color!

papermojo.com carried envelope liner templates for those style envelopes. I just saw them today.

Love your liner paper. Great job.

couldn’t you have put the pointy side down? That way the right angles would be on top…

I love your ingenuity PowderPuff. Those are so cheerful, I love them. And most people just RIPPP open the envelopes so they wont see that the top is triangular. :)

Love your envelopes…where did you get them?

They look cute, but I really don’t know why you were so daunted by the Paper Source template … it’s just a piece of plastic cut to the right shape. All you needed to do was to cut one liner to the right shape, and then use that as a template for the others.

Oh well! They look good anyway!

@PunkRockGirl: There in lies the terrible dilemma. The envelope flaps are not square. They taper in slightly, so I would have had to make a whole new template. Believe me, if it were that simple, I would have been all over it!
