That’s right, one half of the husband and wife pair that will shoot our wedding is a paparazzo (he took the images above)! How ironic… because when we all met in person for the first time the other day I said, “I don’t like flash.” (I meant using the flash in photographs, but I guess generally speaking, as well!)

A “flashless” picture I took. Tim (on the far right) had to rush home and pack for a “job” (to hunt down a good shot of Chris Brown) in Virginia Beach the next day.
Just as our meeting was a way for our photographers, Tim and Jamie Jackson, to get a sense of what we want, it was also a way for us to get to know them. And Tim being a celebrity photographer was one of the interesting details we gleaned. It was a really instructive and informative conversation, I must say. We of course discussed ancillary wedding day details, including the fact that we want portraits and family shots ahead of the ceremony. And the ever popular “photo booth”. (It’s a good thing they come as a pair.) They had great advice on the timing of things (like doing the photo booth during the lull between dinner and the dancing). They had tons of little techniques that they told us about. On the matter of flash: they don’t use them. They use a light stick. On the matter of angles (I’m short!), they like to shoot from the bottom up. It was fun hearing about these little tricks of the trade and envisioning how they would work for our wedding day.
I really liked getting to know this great couple. They recently moved back to the DC area after stints in Las Vegas and Savannah, where, along with wedding photography, they also did commercial work.

There’s a stark clarity and stillness to this image that says, “This ain’t a Sears portrait”
We found them to be really interesting. Quiet, but engaging. Observant but not too restrained. And they have a fresh, youthful, and “current” way of looking, seeing, and capturing their subjects. They talked about their own recent wedding and how it gives them an even better understanding of what a bride wants. (That’s certainly helpful!) Tim wants to do more artistic work and Jamie wants to teach. They have traveled extensively, as well. (I think that’s important—it gives perspective.) They both studied photography and videography in college. They met in a camera store, where Jamie worked, and Tim visited… often, apparently. Those are just side notes, but they’re interesting. It’s nice to know them as people and artists with a personal story, rather than just vendors there to do a job.
Anyway, they have a great sense of style, and as we told them what we wanted in terms of a natural, intimate,

vintage, Polaroid,

time-worn look, they talked to us about angles and post processing. And after seeing these non-weddingy photographs (in addition to their wedding photography work), it only reaffirms our confidence in them.
A snapshot of the photographers themselves:

Except for “flashless”, all photos by Tim and Jamie.
