About Mrs. Peep Toe

A Sparkling Valentine’s Day

February 18th, 2009 @ 2:50 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

Remember when I posted about having to take my ring to the jeweler’s to get one of the prongs fixed?

Well, our initial plan was to get our wedding rings at the same place that he got my engagement ring in LA, mainly so we could use the friends and family discount. We even tried on rings about a year ago, and I just figured we’d be back to LA before the wedding. But, we have no plans to go down there between now and the wedding.

So, since we were in a jewelry store and we needed jewelry, I took it as an opportunity to coerce Mr. Peep to check out rings.

Now I don’t know about your mister, but Mr. PT has never worn jewelry, so watching him try to pick out his very first piece of jewelry was very amusing. He kept trying to yank the rings off his finger and claimed they were stuck. I kept having to tell him to calm down and to slowly wiggle the rings off. Once he calmed down, the process was much smoother. After trying on six or so rings, he picked out a perfectly modern ring in white gold. Of course, it was the heaviest ring EVER. Even the jeweler commented that he couldn’t have picked out a heavier ring.

When looking for my ring, I knew I wanted something that matched the pave setting on the sides of my ring. The problem was that the pave diamonds only go to about 3/4 of the way around the band. Fortunately, the jeweler suggested a custom ring with pave diamonds that would line up with my engagement ring perfectly. Since they had to keep my ring to fix it, it felt like the custom ring was meant to be.

While we loved the rings, we spent a few days thinking about it.

The prices were good, but we both just had a hard time pulling the trigger. Thankfully, Mr. Peep realized we were being ridiculous and ordered the rings.

About a week later we got a call saying they were ready, just in time to pick them up on Valentine’s Day!! And of course, like any good bee, I took pictures using the flowers Mr. Peep got me for Valentine’s Day as a prop:

I had to get my engagement ring in on the action:

And finally, here is a classic picture of the three rings stacked together.

The best part was that they were cheaper than the price he had originally quoted us. This seemed like a wedding first. And since it was Valentine’s Day, Mr. Peep let me wear the ring for the rest of the day!! Isn’t he great?

Both rings are now in their little boxes in the nightstand by our bed, so while Mr. Peep is getting ready for bed I can secretly look at them!

Anyone else have their rings custom made or get a great deal on your rings?

LOL! I love it — V-Day as ring-trial day, secretly looking at yours at night…

Is Mr. Peep Toe’s not perfectly round? In the nesting rings shot, it looks like the sides are kinda squared off.

@MagPie518: Yep, his ring is square-ish on the outside and round on the inside. @MightySapphire: Ha, ha, he can lift his arm up, but I tried it on and I think my finger got a cramp.

Yay for square rings. We choose a square ring for DH and he gets more compliments on it than I get for my rings. I love how it looks.
Beautiful rings!

Love those rings…each one is so unique and gorgeous! Quick question-bc I am having a hard time with this-is you wedding band going to sit flush with your e-ring? How are you going to wear them…I can’t figure out what to-do with my e-ring because it has a unique shape similar to yours and I LOVE your band.

@ChelseafromTX: No it isn’t flush, but I will wear them together. I tried on a curved band, but didn’t like it. I already knew that I wouldn’t get a flush band.

Ohhh…I had the opposite situation - I had to give the jewlery store my ring on Valentine’s Day = (. FI bought me an amazing, one of a kind, vintage inspired ring. Amazing, but completely unlike anything available in a wedding band. So, we’re having something custom made, and I had to leave my ring so that I could get it to match. As we were at dinner that night, FI got all sad looking and said “I hate that it doesn’t look like we’re engaged right now — I miss your ring!” It was so cute and sweet from my usually un-sappy guy that I went out the next morning and bought a faux-ring at Kohls! ($6 baby!)

Our jeweler made a mistake on my engagement ring (it was set at about a 15degree angle… big enough to notice for sure!), they ended up giving me half off on my custom wedding band. (Which looks alot like yours, by the way)…

It came in last week, but the milgraining was really sharp (like cut my skin, sharp)… so we’re still waiting.

It’ paid to complain (in writing, nicely). Basically, all we’ve paid for is my very beautiful diamond. So all in all, I’m very happy with the customer service that our jeweler has provided us!

I got a great deal, but only because I have an “in” in the jewelry industry–my grandfather is a jeweler and can get pretty much any line I want at wholesale cost for immediate family!

I’ts nice to be able to upgrade because of that.

I looked at your last picture and thought to myself, where’s Mr. PT’s ring? I thought you had put your rings into a little box! With that said, I like his ring…nice matte finish. Yay for the whole set!

Unfortunately, I can never get the three rings stacked together shot. Both of my rings have euro bands (square at the bottom) and my e-ring doesn’t fit inside his ring.

I love those! His ring is so cool!

We bought my wedding ring on Valentine’s Day, too, and I’m planning to surprise him with his dream ring on our five year anniversary in a month. :)

You’ve got gorgeous rings! I’m having mine custom-designed and made (so they’ll be flush), since my best friend is a jewelry designer. I totally love pave settings on the bands too, and both my engagement and wedding rings will have it. :)

I’m just a little worried about if the pave bands will present a problem if I ever have to have them resized.
