Ceremony Bookmarks

February 19th, 2009 @ 1:54 pm by Mrs. Cheese

With less than three months to go until we get married, I’ve decided it’s time to start working on the part of the whole thing that I look forward to the most: the ceremony.

I was a bit uncomfortable about writing it; if I know every word, every passage, every sentiment, will I feel as engaged (no pun intended) during our ceremony?

But after much web surfing and some shower time (don’t you do your best thinking in the shower?), I’m very excited. I figure it’s much like live music: I may know every word and every note, but there’s just something special about hearing a song sung live.

So, as I get started (Wheeee! I’m excited!), I thought I’d share all of my ceremony links from Weddingbee. You can recreate my search by reading through every post tagged “ceremony” — or you can just use the list below.

I can’t leave out the fabulous DIY Bride’s very comprehensive ceremony download section, even though it’s not from WB (and I’m working from a theme here, people). You have to register to download files, but it’s really worth it.

I may have missed a few, so as I continue in this (exciting!) process, I’ll update you. Also, while we’re on the subject of marriage, have you seen the Simple Marriage blog? Happy reading.

What inspiration sources are you using to craft your ceremony? Have I mentioned how excited I am?

Before I knew of Weddingbee, I found these fabulous threads on IndieBride; repositories of personal vows, readings, and even entire ceremonies!

Hopefully they can help others as much as they helped us when we were writing our own.

Check out the CS Lewis quote that Mrs Avacado used during her ring ceremony.
I LOVE IT so much that i think I am totally going to steal it for my own wedding :-)

But hey..isn’t that what the hive is all about?!

I’m just not that into the ceremony yet…I’m looking way forward to the marriage part! I’m having a hard time concentrating on something as simple as vows…and shouldn’t I really want to write them myself??

I agree… I do all my best thinking in the shower. Why is that?

@doctorgirl: Nothing else to think about but shampooing and rinsing?

Cherry Pie - Argh! So sorry! Thanks for posting the link.

In addition to being a bride to be, I’m also a wedding officiant - and I don’t send my ceremony text to my couples until a few weeks before the ceremony, just so they won’t be reciting it along with me. I’m currently working on finding an officiant for my own wedding, and I’m really struggling with it - as I don’t want to write my own ceremony, but I’m having some trouble letting go ;/

Anyway, my Celebrant blog might be of help to some people, looking for some ceremony inspiration - I’ve been trying to put some information on my ceremonies and how I write them –> http://jessieblum.wordpress.com

Good luck with putting your ceremony together! I’m sure no matter what it’ll be beautiful. Weddings always are.

You know, I love writing (duh) & had never really given any thought to writing my own ceremony. It makes complete sense to have your own, personal ceremony…yet I just assumed we’d use the stock ceremony from our hotel.

WTF does a HOTEL know about us?! Thanks for posting this Cheese! It kicked me in the tush & I am going to get started on it!!

Thanks for the link to the Simple Marriage blog! That makes two excellent blogs you’ve introduced me too since I joined the hive! (The other was Smittenkitchen.com…..my family loved the oreos by the way).

Before we decided to do it 100% by the book (…of Common Prayer), we got “The Wedding Ceremony Planner” from the local library. It’s a very awesome “do whatever makes you happy and satisfies the lawyers, and here are some examples” style of book. We dug it.

Cheese -

(Love you btw!) My FH and I wrote out our ceremony too, and I got a lot of my inspiration from fellow bees Mrs Lovebug and Mrs Gingerbread.

You can read our version at this post.

Have fun creating! So far it’s been my favorite part of wedding planning. :) I’m sure your wedding will be very touching and true to you and your favorite mister.
