Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.

Wanna Be My Bridesmaid?

February 19th, 2009 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Perfume

In separate exchanges last summer, I unceremoniously asked my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids . The “requests” went something like this:

With my cousin at her graduation, I asked “You wanna be my bridesmaid?”

As we lay by the pool, sweating with sunglasses on (during a conversation about men, losing weight, and bathing suits), I asked my friend A, “Would you like to be in my wedding?”

And for my most special (only) sister over email I wrote, “I think mom would like you to be in the wedding.”

Nice, huh?

But I made ne’er a peep again about it until last night. I was really inspired by Miss Kitten’s idea of superimposing bridesmaids’ faces onto something ridiculous. I think my ladies will appreciate the cheekiness of it (I hope!). So, running with the Parisian flea market/Marie Antoinette theme, I took this:

Wanna Be My Bridesmaid? : wedding bridesmaid Marie A

And clumsily made this bit of hideous using (the poor man’s Photoshop) Paintbrush, and emailed a follow up message (does it matter that it went out eight months later?):

Wanna Be My Bridesmaid? : wedding bridesmaid Bebrid

Bonjour Ladies!

I’ve been completely remiss in my bridal duties with respect to coordinating with you all. I apologize. But I wanted to let you know that I’m looking very forward to having you stand with me at my wedding, and really appreciate you agreeing to do it!! So thank you in advance!

And without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to each other: O (my #1 cousin!), A (a most loyal and dear friend) and, the one and only, E (sister extraordinaire). Heart you guys!! Thanks for being laydaaayz of mah court! (If you don’t see the image above, it’s also attached for your viewing enjoyment!)

Xoxo,

{Miss Perfume}

They’re probably wondering what they got themselves into right about now…

That’s totally cute!! I feel your pain, Miss Perfume. My bridesmaid exchanges were fairly similar to that. I feel like such an idiot!

hahah that’s how I feel and was thinking about doing something along those lines… reasking them?

We are definitely on the same wavelength right now. Yesterday I wrote an unceremonious email to my ladies and “introduced” them to one another via a crappy email message. I’m a bad bride.

I like the Marie Antoinette theme you went with!! Very cute!

So cute. Not only did I ask my bridesmaids much the same way as you did, but I never even sent out an email to them introducing everyone. I am such a bad bride!! Oh well.

Too cute, loves it. I’m trying to think of a fun way to ask my ladies — they all have an “idea” but I haven’t officially asked yet. I want it to be creative! Anybody have a great idea they’ve used?

Those are adorable!! And they make me feel old, because it reminds me of something similar we used to do in college … in the days BEFORE Photoshop. Cutting out photos of friends’ heads from actual photos, then pasting them onto pictures from magazines. It was really fun at the time, though, only in hindsight (and with Photoshop available) does it sound like a ton of work!

Thanks, everyone, for thinking it’s cute! Because I thought it’s a little terrible! And speaking of terrible, I’m a terrible bride!

@Miss Burgundy: @Miss Glitter: @Miss Peep Toe: I know!! I feel like a bad, idiot bride. A groomsman’s wife once told me about the long heartfelt letters she wrote to each of her 15 attendants! I always thought that I should do something sweet and even bought a rubber stamp in the shape of a poofy dress with the full intention of making a “be my bridesmaid” card. For some reason I was over. But tried to salvage some sort of…something, whatever that is…decency…with this!!! Glad you guys got a kick out of it!

IMPRESSIVE!!! how did you even do that with paint?!

oooh in case you need a photoshop-ish software for yr wedding projects, just get Photoshop Elements - $90 instead of over $1000 for the suite! works fabulously.
