About Mrs. D'orsay

We Dream of a House (Or an Apartment)

February 19th, 2009 @ 12:04 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

Mr. D and I often dream of the time after August (maybe even before!?) when we’ll have a place to call our own. Not only that, but we’ll both have jobs, we’ll living in the same country (with our pets!) and won’t be living with roommates. I know, such is the life we dream about.

It may not seem like much of a dream to many of you. In fact, you may be living our dream right now. Mr. D and I enjoy looking at design blogs and saving pictures of elements or rooms we like. We also delight in going to IKEA and pretending we live in a few of the “rooms”. We just can’t seem to stop these random people from entering our kitchens and living rooms, though. We like bookcases! :)

Sometimes we go on walks in the neighborhood and play the “Would you live there?” game. Assuming we had limitless money, that is. I’m surprised at times how similar, but also how different our tastes can be. We’ve played this game everywhere we lived and we both agree we’ll move wherever someone will hire us.

As much fun as our shared dream is, I think it also serves a larger purpose. We both dream of having a place to call ours and it gives us something to work towards. When we save money it isn’t only for the wedding, but for life after the wedding. I consider Mr. D my partner, my teammate, my coach (especially when it comes to finances), my friend, and companion. We approach life as a team and we agree that it’s important to be on the same page. This is why we support each other in our goals, because we know how important they are to each other. While Mr. D supports my weight loss goals, he isn’t my teammate in that particular endeavor - he’s my fan. I don’t really understand how to build a website or how to grow a skincare business, but I’m Mr.D’s biggest fan. A place of our own is our shared goal. It’s what we work together as teammates to achieve and I’m so grateful that I’m lucky enough to share my life, my goals, and my dreams with Mr. D.

Oh, and yes, I will fill our future abode with pretty cake stands.

What are your shared goals/dreams as a couple?

We play the “would you live there” game too! We always disagree on the exterior paint colors. ;)

The day that you two will be in a home filled with cute cake stands will come sooner than you think! :)

We’re so excited about having our own place! Right now we dream of the simple things: backyard BBQ’s, coming home to one another every night, and learning how to cook together.

You put things in perspective for me!

We do own a house, we’re lucky to have purchased in one of the best areas in our metro area. I will now cease to complain about our remodeling issues with our contractor!

We dream of the day we have children! We hope to instill the love of travel that we both have. We’ve already planned our first “family vacation” — Disney Cruises!

We also dream of many other remodel projects… well the completion of them, to make our house into a fabulous home!

Our shared goal is also a house (condo) :) We just started w/ a Realtor… which reminds me I need to call that guy.

Our shared dream is more immaterial, like how many kids, dogs, etc. While we drool over gorgeous 200 year old homes in Germany, we know we’ll end up living in the burbs in Middle of Nowhere, USA.

I’m at the same place - I can’t wait to move in together and start creating our home!

We constantly talk about buying something, but with this economy it seems so scary.

I heart IKEA. The mister and I (somewhat jokingly) dream about opening an eatery together. ;-) More realistic is our plan to move into an apartment, and continue saving for a house!

We too had that dream. And then we looked at how much more we’d have to pay per month for the privilege of owning (about 50-70% more) and we decided that renting is the way to go, at least for now, as long as we live in the Bay Area. I used to think owning a house was always the best choice, but now I’m not so sure :(

My FH and I hope to buy a house before getting married, too. It’s another HUGE expense, but boy it would be wonderful to have a little place of our own!

it is wonderful to feel like a team. mr. onion and i have lived that way since we moved in together/got engaged (happened on the same weekend). we just bought our first apartment in oct. and it feels wonderful to know it’s our home. it’s all family money and long and short term family goals. it will be wonderful for you two and is something to look forward to. enjoy the process!

then comes nesting…we’ve been in our new place for 4 months now and still have 4 boxes that haven’t been unpacked and only 1 painting on the wall….everything else is leaning where we think it will go. yikes.

Word. My FH hails from Essex and I am a Californian through and through. We have yet to decide where we’ll live– Brighton? San Francisco? England and America both have their pros and cons. When we are done with our adventure in Japan, it’ll come down to who will give us jobs.

Is the scene in Beauty and the Beast when he takes her to the library just your favorite movie scene EVER? It’s definitely mine.

We live together in an apartment, which IS one dream come true, but our dream is to own a home where we can do stuff like paint the walls and plant a vegetable garden. We hope to get in while the market is still crappy, otherwise its super hard to get your first place in our area. We’re not having kids so we have all these silly agreements like first kid’s orthodontics money goes to a hot tub, etc.

I’ll be moving in with my FH at the end of March - 3 months before the wedding! Time flies! He currently owns a house but our shared dream is to get a bigger house on a nice plot of land, somewhere outside of the city.

We dream of babies and a dog. We’ve already got the house and the cats. Just looking forward to the day to day stuff and growing old together.
