Can I Really Let Loose?

February 22nd, 2009 @ 7:31 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

To continue with my inability to remain patient, I’ve been looking at bridal hairstyles. In my defense, there are crystal hair pins that I’ve been debating buying on Etsy (as I buy as many things in advance as I can), so of course if I’m thinking about hair bling, I must think about hairstyle.

I thought I wanted to do something somewhat loose and romantic for my hair. Definitely an “updo” but one that is a little bit lower on my head. I don’t want to hook my veil under my hair and have it fall in a straight line down my neck, so with a low updo, it will be easy to hook the veil above my hair, without it being obtrusive.

But as I look at hairstyles, I’m completely drawn to the sleek, more structured styles, especially the big buns. The more I see loose curls, the less I see myself. I want everything in place! Here are a few of my favorites (courtesy of theknot.com):

I think the first and the last are my favorite, but exact opposites. The first does give a little less structure, but is still unique… the last is a fabulous big bun. It’s so not me, but I’m so in love with it! Oh, the decisions.

I’m also looking into hair and makeup services for the day-of for me and my ’maids. I’d love to work with one service for both if possible, but budget is definitely an issue.

Does anyone in the Chicago area know anything about Appease? Their prices are pretty reasonable, and also include a makeup touch-up kit for the bride, as well as free makeup and hair trial for the bride (assuming at least 4 bridesmaids are receiving services). There are only a few reviews out there for them, so if anyone is familiar with them, I’d love some feedback!

I also read a fabulous hint that I had not thought of… if you schedule your hair/makeup trial on the same day as a dress fitting you can see the full package. Beautiful!

Are you planning to wear your hair in a bun?

My wedding day hair was almost exactly like picture #2. I had a deep side part with sideswept bangs, and a white gardenia tucked in to the lower side of the bun. My veil cliped in right above it! I loved that it would out of my face all night.

I love picture #3. I also bought hair pins off of etsy, they are wonderful! I could not be happier with them, I bought mine from OrginalsByLynnette.

I too am addicted to etsy!!!

What a great idea about scheduling the make-up and dress fitting on the same day!! Although my dress vendor requests no makeup the day of the fitting so you don’t rub it off on the dress. ;-)

I am with MS…great idea on the scheduling! Just do be careful w/makeup and dress when trying on.

Ever consider a half up/half down? That’s what I’m doing. I love option 2 though.

I recently saw in (thought it was in Brides) a mag where the bride had the ceremony with her hair up and was taught during the hair trial how to remove certain pins and then the hair was down or half down in the back for the reception. Was really neat!

I love the hair bling. I gots to get me some blings!

Whoa, I love the first picture!!! I’m having my hair down, and usually updo pics don’t entice me, but that first one is beautiful! And like you said, it’s still more loose than the other shots, so maybe it’s a good compromise?

As Mother of the Bride last year ,I used Etsy vendor ButterflyEntress for my hair bling. I had my medium length curly red hair styled in an updo and if I could figure out had to attach a photo to a blog, I will share some pictures.

I am wearing my hair down and loose for the ceremony. At the reception, I plan to pin my hair up in a bun to party. I like the idea of the hair bling…

I haven’t heard of Appease, but wow - it sounds like a great deal! & you’ll get to find out how you like them at your trial! I say go for it. :) I love #2 and #3.
