Can We Leave Now?

February 22nd, 2009 @ 6:32 pm by Mrs. Duckling

Lately I’ve been thinking and dreaming about our honeymoon. As much as I love wedding planning and all the fun details, I have really begun to look forward to the day after the wedding when we leave for the honeymoon. I can’t wait to get away with Mr. Ducky and just have time to ourselves. I look forward to a break when I don’t have a pile of to-do lists, no textbooks, no deadlines, no meetings, and can just focus on having a good time.

On the nights that I get home early, Mr. Ducky and I have been huddling over my computer and letting our minds daydream about where we will be jetting off to after the wedding. I love traveling, and just about everything has looked amazing in one way or another. Since we are having a September wedding, it will be hurricane season in a few of the honeymoon hotspots. Some of our other ideas have been out of budget for what we are planning to spend, just looking at airfare alone. I absolutely love Europe (especially in fall), but the more we think about it, we are hoping for something a little more relaxing instead of trying to hit every museum, cathedral and destination spot in a short time span.

What we keep coming back to is Hawaii, more specifically, Kauai. We went to Kauai a couple of years ago with my family and had an amazing time. We loved the lush and tropical environment. Kauai seems to be a little more low-key than the other islands because there isn’t a major city. We stayed on the North Shore in Hanalei Bay last time and felt like we fell into pace with the low-key local life. The island is just beautiful, and each area of the island seems to reveal a new breathtaking view or inspiring sanctuary. There are lots of beaches to relax and rest on, but also some great excursions like the Na Pali Coast, horseback riding to waterfalls, and snorkeling. We are thinking of maybe trying to go to two islands, but I’m not sure which one we’d choose in addition to Kauai.

Life has been a whirlwind recently and I can’t wait to have things slow down a little bit. Quality time is an important part of our relationship, and it will be so nice just to be able to get away and enjoy being newlyweds. We still have many months before we actually get to experience our honeymoon, but I’m already anticipating the trip. Can anyone relate?

Oh yes! Mr. MagPie and I can’t wait to unwind after the wedding. So, as much as I’m looking forward to the days leading up to the wedding — and the day itself — I’m also super excited for our two weeks in Italy that’ll follow!

Oahu!!!! You must visit Oahu and go to the Marketplace - the nightlife in Waikiki is amazing. I went to Hawaii a few years ago and it’s absolutely my favorite (we went to Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island).

We’re getting married in Sept. as well, and we cannot WAIT to go on our honeymoon. We recently booked our plane tickets. We’ll be flying into London, taking a train and spending most of our time in Paris and Athens. Cannot wait!!

@Indie B: Oh man! I miss Athens so much! -so jealous!-

Sadly, we aren’t going to be able to have a honeymoon, well not right away. my Mr. is in the Navy and will be using most of his saved up leave time for the wedding it’s self. Oh well - i’m thinking it would be fun to wait a year and do our ‘honeymoon’ on our one year!!

Wow, I have the exact same mindset as you! We are very familiar with Hawaii and wanted a tropical place where we could just relax and not think about ANYTHING! I thought about different locations for a total of 5 minutes, then came back to Kauai. Although I have yet to go to that island, my FI says there’s nothing like it. We want to go ATV’ing and maybe the Princeville Zipline.. I also heard JoJo’s shaved ice is a must do!

I went to Kauai as well and loved it! If you haven’t done a helicopter tour, you HAVE to do it. The views are just breathtaking!

@Miss Chocolate Chip: I love shaved ice! There is a place in Hanalei called the Rainbow Well and it’s out of this old van that just stays in place. They put ice cream and the bottom and it’s delicious. The flavor stays consistent and doesn’t all melt to the bottom. We also want to do the zipline!@bluebonnet: I’ve never done the helicopter tour. Thanks for the recommendation!
@ktdid23: Oahu is great too. We are talking about stopping the for a day or 2 or maybe the Big Island.
@Indie B: September is a great time of year for Europe. I love those places!! I can’t wait to go back one day!

@han_lyn:

I’m in the same boat (haha navy pun) as you–he’ll be leaving on deployment pretty much right after the wedding unfortunately…but we are going to use a few days of leave to spend time together after we’re married. the honeymoon will be wonderful i’m sure (whenever it is ;-)

We just booked our honeymoon…which will actually be an anniversary moon because we waited so long :) We are going Kauai for 5 days, Lanai for 4 days, and Maui for 3. I can’t wait. We have never been. We considered Fiji and Tahiti but liked that Hawaii had so many more activities to offer.

I originally wanted to do something really fancy and exotic for our honeymoon - but after this post, Kuaui looks like a mighty good option!

I recommend going to the Big Island in addition to Kauai. The beaches, volcano, and sea turtles are must-sees.

We can’t wait for our honeymoon either!

I third my recommendation for the Big Island! We’ve been to Oahu also but vastly preferred the B.I. for it’s more laid-back lifestyle. We wandered all over the island for activities and drove from Kona on one side to Hilo on the other (and where the volcano is closest to). I think that road trip was the BEST part of our trip. We stopped to see South Point, the black sand beach and a ton of other things on the way.

Aloha Miss Duckling, We just returned from our Honeymoon on Kauai and it was beautiful! We were married on Maui and spent a few days there for our honeymoon and then flew to Kauai. We stayed in the south shore in Poipiu Beach at the Grand Hyatt Kauai for half the trip and then at a private cottage at a B&B in Kapaa. It was more laid back than Maui with less people and more green. It was nice to relax after the wedding but at first I missed Maui bc there is more nightlife there and the energy is more my style. However, we still had a great time and it flew by. I think if you can go to just one island you have more time to relax without packing and such. Anyway the Hyatt has an amazing view and I room was georgous but my favorite favorite was the Four Seasons in Maui it was pure heaven! Have a great trip. Mahalo.

i totally agree with your choice to just relax..

when talking about our honeymoon my finace and i had always dreamed about going to Italy because we are both italian…
but then we thought about how it was going to be SO stressful trying to be tourists and not being able to speak the language and such would make it a difficult time…

we also decided on going to some type of tropical place (havent decided yet though because there is plenty of time *i hope* and there are WAY too many good choices out there)

but the pictures are beautiful

im excited to find out where you choose to go!
