About Mrs. Stiletto

I’m Not Color Crazy, Right?

February 23rd, 2009 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

So, I’ve been continuing to stress out about the bridesmaid attire, specifically their shoes. After we chose the black and white dresses from White House Black Market, and since I’d been planning on bold touches of green, I immediately chose green pumps for the girls. And since I want a little bit of a vintage feel, I thought the combination of peep toe and patent leather would be perfect.

I hadn’t heard much on it until they actually bought the shoes this month (I think many thought it was a whim). I haven’t heard rave reviews on the choice. Instead, I’ve heard “interesting,” “a lot going on” and “are you sure??” Alright I can take a hint. And if I changed my mind, the shoes were only $30.

However, I’ve found that I’m not alone!

Darken the shoe and put the ladies in black and white dresses, and you have my wedding (love this shot!).

After finding out that I’m not alone out there with bold footwear choices, my breathing has started to calm down a bit. I know that I need to stick to my gut instincts, but of course I don’t want to be that tacky bride out there sticking her bridesmaids in the equivalent of a dress with a big bow on the butt and puffy sleeves.

To continue setting my mind at ease, I’ve decided to do a little photo shoot with my hubby-to-be. I have a pair of the shoes the girls will be wearing, and a black and white dress (different from theirs, but same effect), I’m going to have S take some pictures of me and then Photoshop them together so there’s five in a row. A tad obsessive? You bet! Nothing short of thorough for this bride. I’ll share the results after the shoot for all of you pondering primary colors.

Will you maids be wearing colored shoes?

I LOVE GREEN SHOES! This is exactly what I wanted for my bridesmaids as well. I am having a black, green, and white wedding as well. I wanted to do green pumps, but I didn’t want to go with a black dress. So..I had to get green dresses and black shoes instead. But if it was my choice as a bridesmaid, you have picked my ideal choice!

That sounds like a good plan! I love the shoes you chose, though they’re not something I’d ever wear again, if only because I never have call for something like that. But the photo of the green-shoed girls in a row is divine! If that and the one you’re going to take doesn’t sell them, nothing will!

I love your shoe choice! Are your maids typically more conservative? Maybe they just need to get out of the dyed-to-match stereotypical wedding shoe mindframe… Definitely stick to your gut - your girls will look fab!

My BM’s will be in black tea-length dresses, anddd I wanted them to wear purple heels (Colors are black and white with royal/deep purple as the accent color)

Anyway, needless to say a few (well, mainly one- the difficult one) weren’t real pleased about that and wanted to wear black heels…I would have stuck to my guns but by this point I was so fed up with requests like this that I just said- whatever, you all can wear black shoes - the MOH will wear purple heels. Done.

I love the shoes! I think they will look great!

The shoes look like a pair of Manolo’s I have been drooling over for the past two years. I may order these. How do the sizes run? Are they comfortable?

Yes! I plan to wear colored shoes. Orange ones! I’m also doign a black and white wedding with touches of color (orange, obviously). I’ve actually been thinking about having my girls wear orange shoes with their black dresses. Who knows!

I think your green shoes are amazing and will look great on your girls!

Mine are doing silver — if there were enough cute DARK purple dress shoes out there, we’d go that-a-way. ;-)

I think they will be perfect! I’ve seen the pic you posted of the lighter green shoes before and that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw your last post about your green shoes! I love it, but think you are right to take the pics, they will at least set your mind at ease!

Such a beautiful idea (and a great shoe pick!)! My girls are wearing leopard print heels! Why? Because it is fun! I think that whatever makes your day special and characteristic of you can never be a wrong choice!

I’ll be wearing colored shoes, but unless my maids are wearing black, I think I’ll have them wear their own black shoes, just to keep costs down.

Do you think they’d feel better about it if there were something else green to pull things together? Maybe if the stems of their bouquets are wrapped in a similar green ribbon or they have pashmina wraps or clutches in the same shade the would see how it all pulls together…

The shoes are gorgeous. But I’m sure much of the hemming and hawing from your maids comes from nervousness about trying to squeeze their unique feet into your standard vision.

Feet vary so much, how can one pair of shoes fit every wide, narrow and long bridesmaid?

WHile I like your color combo..I wouldn’t want to wear those shoes. I’d rather the bride tell me to get green shoes, and I’d get a pair that I know would look good on my foot and be comfortable. I do think perhaps you should follow Sheri’s advice and get green in elsewhere.

After you posted these shoes I immediately went online to find them! I don’t think they’re too much at all, and like you said they’re only $30. Alas, they are out of my (and my BMs!) size!! Oh well. But the search for a jewel tone pump continues. I’m with you girl!!

Heck yeah! Actually, they can wear whatever they want to, as long as they are not tennis shoes or something ;) But ideally, they’d all wear different colors - magenta, green, yellow, orange.. All of the colors are so lovely! Why force yourself to have only one?

I don’t know what’s not to love, these shoes are amazingly cute and could totally be worn after the wedding too!@Sheri: Good idea! Maybe that will tie the outfit together for them and they would fee better with this bold (and so awesome) green

I love the idea of colored shoes but I am having the hardest time finding the perfect purple shoe. Does anyone know where I could find any? I thought about dying a pair of shoes but I’m way too nervous they will bleed onto my dress if it rains.

The shoes are so much fun! And I really think the girls will get over it, and barely even notice that they’re wearing green shoes the day of. Plus, you can include the shoes in some fun pics, but then there’ll be some other shots where you won’t even see the shoes, so I think it’ll be fine. Stick with your gut…

Love it. In fact, it’s becoming very common so I’m surprised yours maids expressed hesitation (unless none of them are plugged into wedding trends like many of us are….sometimes I suggest things that are totally common place/on trend in weddings, and people are like “oh, how original, wow”)
Check our Mrs. Coconut’s weddinb pics… her maids had coloured shoes and it was DIVINE!

I LOVE colored shoes!! I am SO excited about my decision to wear red shoes - I actually planned our entire color scheme around my shoes!!
My BMs are also going to wear red shoes - they can wear any style/heel height they’re comfortable with, as long as they’re red!

Going off one of them saying “there’s a lot going on”, maybe they feel like the black AND white dress with a green shoe with white button is a lot. I can see that honestly. I like the solid black dress with colored shoes, but a black/white floral print with a green shoe is a bit much for me as well.

I think it’s going to look amazing with the pop of color! I say - go for the bold look instead of playing it safe and risk looking boring.

I had my bridesmaid wear “sky” blue/turquoise dresses with red shoes! Those were my colors. We had tons of compliments on their attire. I had them try the dress on with gold, silver, and red shoes - and we agreed the pop of red made it look way more interesting. I also end up wearing red shoes too! =)

Love the shoes. Don’t you dare change a thing. I just got married in October and people had me second guessing everything..when the day is done you want to look bakc and love everything because it is the way you wanted it..Love the idea. Wish I had thought of it. I think you should wear colored shoes under your dress too!!

I think the shoes are adorable, but are your bridesmaids more concerned about the shoes fitting and having to purchase shoes that they might not wear again than the green issue? While $30 for shoes is very reasonable considering the cost for some dresses, maybe they are worried about fit and comfort. I have a wide ball of my foot so my toes never manage to cutely peak out in peep toes. I wouldn’t want to wear something that looks strange on me and probably doesnt correctly fit my feet.
