I’m Not Color Crazy, Right?

February 23rd, 2009 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

So, I’ve been continuing to stress out about the bridesmaid attire, specifically their shoes. After we chose the black and white dresses from White House Black Market, and since I’d been planning on bold touches of green, I immediately chose green pumps for the girls. And since I want a little bit of a vintage feel, I thought the combination of peep toe and patent leather would be perfect.

I hadn’t heard much on it until they actually bought the shoes this month (I think many thought it was a whim). I haven’t heard rave reviews on the choice. Instead, I’ve heard “interesting,” “a lot going on” and “are you sure??” Alright I can take a hint. And if I changed my mind, the shoes were only $30.

However, I’ve found that I’m not alone!

Darken the shoe and put the ladies in black and white dresses, and you have my wedding (love this shot!).

After finding out that I’m not alone out there with bold footwear choices, my breathing has started to calm down a bit. I know that I need to stick to my gut instincts, but of course I don’t want to be that tacky bride out there sticking her bridesmaids in the equivalent of a dress with a big bow on the butt and puffy sleeves.

To continue setting my mind at ease, I’ve decided to do a little photo shoot with my hubby-to-be. I have a pair of the shoes the girls will be wearing, and a black and white dress (different from theirs, but same effect), I’m going to have S take some pictures of me and then Photoshop them together so there’s five in a row. A tad obsessive? You bet! Nothing short of thorough for this bride. I’ll share the results after the shoot for all of you pondering primary colors.

Will you maids be wearing colored shoes?

I LOVE GREEN SHOES! This is exactly what I wanted for my bridesmaids as well. I am having a black, green, and white wedding as well. I wanted to do green pumps, but I didn’t want to go with a black dress. So..I had to get green dresses and black shoes instead. But if it was my choice as a bridesmaid, you have picked my ideal choice!

That sounds like a good plan! I love the shoes you chose, though they’re not something I’d ever wear again, if only because I never have call for something like that. But the photo of the green-shoed girls in a row is divine! If that and the one you’re going to take doesn’t sell them, nothing will!

I love your shoe choice! Are your maids typically more conservative? Maybe they just need to get out of the dyed-to-match stereotypical wedding shoe mindframe… Definitely stick to your gut - your girls will look fab!

My BM’s will be in black tea-length dresses, anddd I wanted them to wear purple heels (Colors are black and white with royal/deep purple as the accent color)

Anyway, needless to say a few (well, mainly one- the difficult one) weren’t real pleased about that and wanted to wear black heels…I would have stuck to my guns but by this point I was so fed up with requests like this that I just said- whatever, you all can wear black shoes - the MOH will wear purple heels. Done.

I love the shoes! I think they will look great!

The shoes look like a pair of Manolo’s I have been drooling over for the past two years. I may order these. How do the sizes run? Are they comfortable?

Yes! I plan to wear colored shoes. Orange ones! I’m also doign a black and white wedding with touches of color (orange, obviously). I’ve actually been thinking about having my girls wear orange shoes with their black dresses. Who knows!

I think your green shoes are amazing and will look great on your girls!

Mine are doing silver — if there were enough cute DARK purple dress shoes out there, we’d go that-a-way. ;-)

@lreighard1:
I think fabulous shoe shots make a great wedding :) Love that you’re letting them take control of the shoes, too. Hope they all one up each other!

I think they will be perfect! I’ve seen the pic you posted of the lighter green shoes before and that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw your last post about your green shoes! I love it, but think you are right to take the pics, they will at least set your mind at ease!

Such a beautiful idea (and a great shoe pick!)! My girls are wearing leopard print heels! Why? Because it is fun! I think that whatever makes your day special and characteristic of you can never be a wrong choice!
