Breathtaking Veil Inspiration

February 24th, 2009 @ 5:01 pm by Mrs. Taffy

I am planning on making my veil, and intend on starting ASAP. I have more than enough inspiration after looking at these beautiful veils. Ladies, you have wonderful taste!

Mrs. Green Tea’s veil is so delicate and lovely. *swoon*

I love this shot! I am definitely going for this type of opacity; I love long veils but do not want the veil to cover up the beautiful lace on the back of my dress, especially because it will be bustled so quickly after the ceremony!

Mrs. Coconut’s veil is absolutely stunning, and I love the beautiful flower in her hair!

I also love her dress and bouquet! (Focus, Miss Taffy! This post is about veils!)

The most recent veil candy around the hive belongs to Mrs. Cherry Pie. Just gorgeous!

Mrs. Daffodil’s veil is so simple and elegant.

Let’s throw some lace into the mix! Mrs. Bluebell’s veil (not to mention her entire look, and the photo location) has me wiping the drool away. Mrs. Bluebell, you look amazing!

The main struggle that I am facing while designing my veil is whether or not to include lace. I love mantilla veils, but if I do incorporate lace, it will be very subtle, as I don’t want to take away from the beautiful lace details on the train. It is my favorite part about my dress, and I am already starting to feel sad that the train will only show for the ceremony. (I just had my first fitting and am having a hard time finding a bustle that I love.)

I will most likely add lace to the hem of the veil, but not around the sides. I am also considering making the length end right before the lace ruffles begin on my train, but am not sure if that would be weird. Is there some kind of veil length etiquette? I will probably also make the veil one layer, to help create a very sheer look.

Did you have a hard time deciding on a veil? What about your veil made it the one you chose?

My veil was just fingertip length, but it was unique in that it just had four small pieces of lace placed in four separate spots along the bottom. Maybe this is the small amount of lace you are looking for? Here are two pictures:

i had your exact dress! (for a moment i thought, hey who got a pic of me? hee hee )i would rec’d having your veil longer than your train. i actually wanted the same length as you described but last minute i made it a bit longer than my train and to this day i still wished i did it even longer. i think if it was longer it would have had a much more romantic feel to it. plus, you’re only a bride once so go extreme (well not that extreme). =)

i love our dress!

My veil was about the length you’re describing - waltz length. I loved it, enough veil to get some nice pictures but it was never dragging the ground or annoying. I’m sure what you come up with will be great!

I would go very very light on the lace details, if I were you. When you have a lot of delicate lace on the dress itself, you really don’t want to over do it. A friend of a friend wore an all-lace overlayed dress and a mantilla and it was just too too much (and her dress wasn’t even A line, it was a sheath!). I think you’re on the right track with a little lace, like Nicole’s flickr photos.

I’m a birdcage bride, because I have a flowery, tulle trumpet silhouette and the dress is kind of funky and girly at the same time. I also want to be able to wear my veil all the live long day (It’s the only day I get to do this after all!) so I’m going to wear mine flipped back ala Mrs. Avocado for the reception. I had no trouble decising, it just kinda hit me after browsing for a bit:-)

Thanks for the veil-spiration, Taffy! :) I still haven’t decided if I want a veil or not (having never tried them on), so I’m still on the fence. I’ve got a fitting on Saturday, so I may try some then. I think a sheer veil would be pretty with your dress, especially because the back is so gorgeous!

YAY YOU for making your own veil!! There’s something so romantic and sentimental about making your own!! I’ve been playing around with ideas as well, and will probably go with a making a mantila myself.

So please share with us how you will make yours!!

P.S. LOOOOOVE your train!! It’d be a shame to hide too much of it!!

I love veils. They make such beautiful pictures when they blow in the wind. Unfortunately I have a hard time telling the difference between all the different types. I was also thinking of possibly getting a long veil for the ceremony and a shorter one for the reception for dancing.

Are you going to keep your long veil on during the reception? if so how do you plan on keeping it out of the way while dancing?

I love these long veils! I don’t think I can add veil-making to my list–does anyone know where I can buy one?

my used dress actually came with a veil, which I’m very happy with../ so I’m trying to not to be tempted with all of these pictures. :)

wedding bee got me inspired to be bold and get a super duper long veil (for my sheath-ish dress) cos they look so fab in pictures. thanks for the veil candy recap ;)

my dress has lace so i’m keeping the veil simple. you may wanna consider how the lace would turn up in photos too!

i was also inspired by mrs. coconut’s veil and contacted the place she got it from : candi merle (it’s like crowned veil designs or crowned in glory or something, i forget) - i haven’t received it yet, but her prices were amazing ($40 for a cut edge 75″ sheer veil) and she was super prompt and helpful in helping me decide based on my dress.

I’m going to try to make my veil as well, using inspiration from Mrs Cherry Pie and Mrs Coconut! I’d never seen Mrs. Bluebell’s so I’m excited to keep brainstorming.

I hope you post a DIY: veil tutorial because I need all the help I can get!

Whether the veil is DIY, something borrowed, or something new they add so much depth to a wedding dress. I think the veil makes a dress a wedding dress.

I love a good cathedral length veil! Those inspiration pics you posted are great.

My mom and I are planning to hand monogram a cathedral length veil that I bought online. Hopefully it will turn out okay!

@Nicole: Wow, that is so lovely! Thanks so much for posting pictures!

@mrs. cly: That’s awesome! Such a beautiful dress, I love it. I will definitely take your advice into consideration!

@missrachelk: Thanks for the link! I am bookmarking that page now. ;)

@Mrs. Bluebell: No problem! I am still wiping the drool, by the way. ;)

@West Coast Bride: Oh I will, if I use it at all. The trim that I have now is very delicate and only an inch wide, so if I use it, it will be very subtle.

@mixingmommybride: @DrDazey: I will absolutely do a tutorial! There is also this tutorial that I posted a while ago, which would look like Mrs. Coconut’s veil if you make it longer and wear it higher on the head. :)

@Jessie516: Thanks Jessie! Depending on the style and length you want, I could help you make it. :)

@tangt16: I am only going to wear it for the ceremony and portraits, then I’ll put in some kind of a fun hair thing that I have yet to make. ;)

@Miss Kitten: I have heard good things about veil shop-
http://www.veilshop.com/

@honeymyheart: You can always change into the birdcage later… ;)

@LatteLove: Check out the tutorial link above. Also, are you in Ann Arbor? If so, maybe we can get together with Jessie516 and have a veil making tutorial party. :)

@driftslikesmoke: That sounds beautiful!

@Mrs. Green Tea: Thanks for the encouragement! Your veil was so amazing. :)

@lulu: Thanks, and sorry for the delayed reply. It is Jasmine Couture style T834
