Mrs. Sea Breeze's Picture
Mrs. Sea Breeze, Vancouver/Dominican Republic Age in 2008 and Occupation: 30, Communications Manager Fiance's Age in 2008 and Occupation: 29, Experiential Marketing Director Engagement Date: October 6, 2007 Wedding Date: November, 2008 Blogging Since: July 17, 2008 Venue: Majestic Colonial Resort, Punta Cana About Me: Planning a destination wedding by the sea should be (oh no she di-in't…) a breeze (…*sigh* yep, she did) but when you've never been to the Caribbean, your powers of imagination are really put to the test. Luckily, I'm 90% resourceful, creative optimist (and kooky, neurotic practicalist-if-that's-a-word for the other ten). Other than writing about our week-long celebration of family, friends, laughter and love, I adore books, shoes and… you guessed it… long walks on the beach.
About Mrs. Sea Breeze

The scene: Majestic Colonial Resort, in the Gazebo. The guests are assembled, the men and maids stand at attention, and Mr Breezy and I, having kissed our parents goodbye, face each other with big silly-happy grins.

Brian The (Non-Official) Officiant: Friends and family, we are gathered today to join Mr and Miss SB in marriage. Who gives this woman away today?

Papa Sea Breeze: I do.

Brian: Are you sure? (At which point everyone EXPLODES in laughter.) Positive? ‘Cause once you give her away, there are no takesies-backsies.

Brian: No?… Okay. We’re off to a good start.

And so begins the wedding ceremony of our dreams.

Many couples say that their favorite part of the wedding day is the reception. For us, it was the ceremony. It was so thoughtful, so touching, so incredibly joyful and so full of spontaneous jokes and laughter. My heart swells with the memory of it.

I think I will be in love with our Ceremony of Love as long as I live.

Even though our friend Brian wasn’t “really” a minister, priest, or rabbi (though it took some of our friends a while to believe us), he did a magnificent job translating the hopes and dreams of our hearts into our wedding ceremony.

We trusted him completely and pretty much gave him free rein to develop the ceremony, which was touching, beautiful AND hilariously funny. The only thing I asked Brian to do, really, was somehow make our guests a part of our ceremony, a la Mrs. Lovebug.

Well, he did just that… And then, to my utter delight, gave it his own special West Coast twist:

Love, West-Coast Style from Mrs Sea Breeze on Vimeo.

Looking around at everyone with their eyes closed and hearts held high is a moment and a feeling I will treasure forever.

I think Mama Sea Breeze’s um, ‘version’ of the heart is the absolute cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

And thus, surrounded by a love that was grand and wonderful and palpable, we got ready to say our vows.
