I plan on DIYing my little heart out (or as much as a suitcase to Jamaica will hold).

“J’ai Deux Amours…”

February 24th, 2009 @ 6:16 pm by Mrs. Quiche

… Mr. Quiche and Paris…

France is near and dear to my heart. I credit going to University in Lyon for changing my life. I’ve always had a wonderful life, enjoyed Ohio State immensely, but embarking on a new experience in Europe is what did it for me. It turned me into a girl obsessed with seeing the world and experiencing new cultures. Mama and Sister Quiche Nen came to visit me and the travel bug bit them as well. Mama Q and I love Paris. We’ve gone back to visit since then and it’s only fitting that we squeeze in one more trip to the City of Lights before Mr. Q and I take the plunge.

Mama Q suggested the idea after a few cocktails one night in December…

Me, Mama Q, Sister Quiche Nen, and might-as-well-be-a-sister-Quiche Friend L

So, the trip is planned and we take off in a month!

My mom is truly one of my best friends and I cannot imagine life without her. She has raised 3 incredible women (I’m biased, though!) and I consider us to be so lucky to have such an amazing mom. We are all so close, we don’t fight, and we LOVE spending our time together.

Sweet Mandy B’s… yum…

So, off we head to Paris. After a quick jaunt to Normandy, we plan on eating our way across the city, spending the majority of our time walking through the neighborhoods and visiting the small, tucked away cafes, bars, etc. We’re always looking for new places, so if you have any suggestions - let me know!

Do you have any pre-wedding getaway trips planned?

I’m so jealous! I’ve been to France, but only got to stay in Paris for about three days. :-(

So…I’ll have to live vicariously through you!

This is going to sound ridiculous, but one of my favorite memories of Paris with my friends was going to watch the Eiffel Tower light up and eating crepes (from the shady crepe stand in the plaza on the other side of the Seine).

I hope you have a fantastic time, I’m looking forward to going back again sometime soon, hopefully within a few years of my and the misters wedding :)

We are spending two weeks in Paris for our honeymoon! I have never been and am so excited! We will be there for Christmas, which I have heard is spectacular. Looking forward to reading any advice/tips from experienced travelers…

Sensationnel! Well, I’m officially jealeuse! If I could, I’d force you on Daniel Rose’s Spring restaurant, which was fully booked until February 6th! It’s supposed to be the hottest little spot for gastronomes like yourself. They’re in the process of transitioning to a new space, which means they’re not taking new reservations…which also means you may have a chance to get in on cancellations or someone else’s confusion!! They might be closed, but still worth it to check into: 28 rue de la Tour d’Auvergne 75009 Paris +33 (0)1 45 96 05 72 .

Also a huge splurge, but well worth it is Hiromatsu. The Japanese Alain Ducasse (but better). The preparations are definitely French, and fabulously experimental!!!

Have fun, Quiche!!!

I remember spending lazy weekends in Parc Monceau and Parc des Buttes Chaumont with a picnic (wine and cheese from the local supermarket) during my year of studying in Paris. Sadly my favorite restaurant was an Italian place where the waiters loved to practice English (del Papa at the Porte Maillot stop in the 16eme). There was also a great cafe near Place de la Bastille, but I can only remember how to get there, not the name. I’m so jealous! I can’t wait to move back (and take trips to St. Malo on long weekends). Have a great time!

I also studied in Paris in college- for a view of the city, I like the top of the Tour Montparnasse. For picnics, I like the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, or the Pont des Arts (bridge across the Seine). If you haven’t spent some time exploring the Marais area, I recommend it. And the pear sorbet at Berthillon (there’s a stand on the Ile Saint Louis) rocks.

Its lot of fun if you’re with a good group - wine in baby bottles to boot :) If you google it there is a you tube video as well!

I’m jealous! I took a trip to Paris and London with my mom almost 2 years ago. Mother/daughter trips are so special. I am trying to plan a trip to New England with my mom in April or May. You’ve inspired me to get on that!

Have FUN!!

Ms. Quiche - this looks like a fabulous trip. Paris is very near and dear to me. I studied abroad there during college and met one of my life long best friends there (one of my BMs). It changed me forever and I think of my experiences often!

I took a trip by myself to Brazil in October. I was so proud of myself travelling alone for the first time and it was truly a sense of adventure and a little independence before tying the knot.

I am not going anywhere before the big day but I love Paris. We were engaged there this summer. We lived there for a month and loved every minute. I wish we could go back so bad!

I was bad at eating out (we seriously ate baguettes and laughing cow cheese for almost every meal) but I do have an awesome park to recommend. Parx Sceaux. It’s on the outskirts if you take the B line towards the Cite’ Universitare. It was probably the most magical place ever. We didn’t do much but read Le Petite Prince and walk around the beautiful place. If you have extra time though, you should head there. I just loved it.
There is also a beautiful park in the 14th right across from the Cite’ (that’s where I lived…)

have so much fun! I miss Paris so much.

We loved a restaurant called Les Cocottes. Almost everything is cooked & served in cocottes (individual casseroles) - which will probably make an appearance on our registry soon.

when i was studying in Paris i loved Rue Mouffetard (behind Le Pantheon and close to the Sorbonne) for the eclectic shops, food and total randomness. i usually walked from RER St Michel. There’s also an awesome crepe stand along the way (by a McDonald’s). Have fun!!

I would try Musichall…it’s ultra modern/chic and located just of the Champs-Elysees. A bit of a splurge but definitely worth it as the food is delicious! http://www.music-hallparis.com/

My husband and I also love La Gare, which is an old train station that has been converted into a bar and restaraunt. The food is good and the price is right…definitely nice to go for lunch if it’s sunny out as the light fills up the space. (plus the lunch menu is 18 euros as opposed to 31 at night). If you make reservations online they will offer each person a free coupe de champagne. http://www.restaurantlagare.com/

I’m sure you’ve already done this before but I love walking around in the Marais on Sundays (when most shops are closed) and eating traditional Jewish cuisine at L’As du Fallafal: 4, rue des Rosiers (Métro: St. Paul).

If I think of anything else I’ll let you know :)

There is a WONDERFUL patisserie very close to the eiffel tower (obviously, right?). It’s near Rue Emile Zola and Rue du Théâtre. It’s Paris, so you might say it’s «pleine de pâtisseries», but if you’re near the eiffel tower, this place makes amazing croissants avec du poire et du chocolat (like pain au chocolat, mais avec du poire!! le mieux!!!)

I only got to spend 24 hours in Paris on a fluke flight delay that left us there for a day.

One of these days I’ll go back and enjoye it again. Hope you have a blast with your mom there! So awesome that you can share a love of travel! (my mom refuses to leave the country!)

Have you tried Gerard Mulot? It’s in the latin quarter, right next to St. Sulpice. It’s this awesome little patisserie, it’s address is 76 rue de Seine.

How exciting! I’m headed to paris in 62 days!!!! I can’t wait!

I did hear about an amazing FREE tour given by Paris locals. They can take you to the monuments and stuff but they specialize in showing you the quiet neighborhoods with great little cafes. The best part is it is FREE!! (Donations happily accepted of course). Here is the link: http://www.parisgreeter.org/PdJ/

Make sure to blog about where you went and what you liked so I can learn! :)
