My First Wedding Related Nightmare

February 24th, 2009 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Cheese

I woke up Saturday morning in a panic, not knowing what day it was, what I needed to be doing, or why I was in pajamas… because at that point in my dream, I should have been wearing an ill-fitting dress trudging down a muddy aisle in front of no guests to a groom in jeans. Huh?

Yea. I dreamt I was getting married now, today, este minuto… so nobody was there because invites hadn’t gone out, we had no tent, tables or chairs because I haven’t signed the contract, the trail was muddy and ugly because it’s February, and my guy wasn’t wearing a suit because he hasn’t bought one. Ah, yes, and the dress was falling off because I haven’t yet found a seamstress (anyone wanna pass along a good Knoxville recommendation?).

I’m relieved, though. I’ve had wedding nightmares before, but never with this guy, my favorite guy. When I was dating my ex-boyfriend, I had these dreams about marrying him and discovering that he was married to someone else — and my family was all crying. Now THAT’S a nightmare. This bad dream was all about the details (even if bras are more necessity than detail, if ya know what I’m sayin’).

I think this bad dream is telling me to stop procrastinating and get some wedding stuff done.

Even if the vision of me in a wedding dress running to the grocery store to get flowers for the non-existent tables and freaking out because I can’t find black socks for the groom (who’s wearing old running shoes?) is kinda funny.

Are you having wedding nightmares?

You have AMAZING timing with your posts. I had my first wedding nightmare last night and was so stressed out! My dress was nowhere to be found, so I got married in my bra and crinoline. (Such a great look) and we couldn’t find the ceremony book, which we’d spent hours putting together to make our ceremony our own. Nothing about our day was as I had envisioned, and I was so relieved when I woke up!

None yet, but I DO (unfortunately) wake up — and struggle to get back to sleep — when I think of a wedding-related to-do item. Grrrr….

I have wedding dreams ALL THE TIME. All the time!!! The last one was that the ceremony went off without a hitch, and then all of our guests were in the reception room. I had my arm locked with my FI (I guess Hubby at this point) and we were about to walk into the reception, when I realized there was no music playing. There was no music playing because I had not decided what music we would walk into, what our first dance would be, etc etc… I said “Moooom, help!” and then woke up!

Yes I too have wedding nightmares. My first one was just like yours where you have to get married in the middle of planning all of a sudden the months you thought you had are gone and you have to figure it all out with only what you have so far. I remember it completely, it was horrible!

Oh yes. I just had one a few days ago, actually. In short, I was about to walk down the aisle and I didn’t have my “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” In real life, it’s not a huge deal to me, but in my dream, oh god you would have thought I was naked! I started having wedding nightmares really early into our 22 MONTH engagement. I can’t even imagine what will happen in the 6 months leading up to the big day.

Not yet (I am still over a year and a half away.) I did have a tornado dream last night though, and I’ve been having chaotic dreams as of late!

I’ve already had at least 2 similar dreams, and my wedding isn’t until Sept! Though the last dream I had, we actually got married in it, and even though it wasn’t what we had planned it went OK. Until the wedding night, when my “husband” informed me that he had a party to attend. Ha.

Funny you should mention this - I very rarely have nightmares, but I had my first (in a very long time) on Sunday night, just a week after becoming engaged. I don’t remember the details now, but I know I woke up with a cold sweat. In short I think I was dreaming about my fiance not being at our wedding, but in place of him was my ex and I was freaking out (I haven’t seen/talked to/ though of my ex in at least 3 years!). Thank goodness you wake up from dreams sometimes.

Am I weird and non involved enough with my wedding or something? I have had lots of dreams about what it will be like living with my husband one day, but nothing about the actual wedding!

So glad other brides are having wedding nightmares, too! I had one last night where I realized the morning of my wedding that I had scheduled a DENTIST appointment that day. So I ran panicked to the dentist - in my wedding dress, of course - and asked him to hurry up because I was getting married in a couple hours! What does that even mean?

I’ve totally had them! I’m foggy on the details of my most recent, but it had something to do with me being in a bakery on the day of my wedding trying to order some sort of cake last minute…I just remember being upset and stressed out!

I too have had a couple wedding related nightmares. Most of them center around not being able to get to the ceremony on time. Its weird because the setting of my nightmares is not the actual place where we are getting married. Its a relief to know that I am not only one having interruped sleep!

I just had my first last night. It was similar to yours where nothing was done, my sister MOH, was drunker than hell and the best man had foil imitations of our wedding bands since there was no time to buy them. I am so glad I work up from that horrible nightmare.

I’ve had 3 so far. One was about forgetting to do the rehearsal and having complete chaos at the ceremony, second one about people getting lost at the wedding venue, and the most recent one about people not showing up at the wedding. Sigh. Yes, wedding has been on my mind nonstop.

I had about three… the most recent one was similar in that we were getting married that day with everything we had up until now :-/ But all I could think of was how excited I was to be getting married, that I didn’t care about all the missing stuff :) awwww, I know.

I once had a nightmare where I woke up and the wedding was that day. But no one was fully booked, and we were rushing around our venue trying to get everything ready and coordinating with vendors that we had had to contact that day. I was very relieved when I woke up.
Also, after meeting with the florist, I had a dream that I had drowned in flowers.

I’ve only had one and it was HORRIFIC! To say the least I immediately made sure that the details I dreamt about were sewed up — I haven’t had one since ;)

yep, and I hate it! I wake up in a panic and try to wriet down everything that went wrong (because some part of me feels like what I’m dreaming about it is probably the stuff I’m subconsciously worried about the most!)

I dreamed our DJ didn’t show up, we forgot to greet each guest at their tables, and we skipped our first dance! I woke up almost in tears and realized…I still have 4 months to go!

I have DEFINITELY had a similar dream! It was wedding time on the dot, 3:00, and I wasn’t ready. I had forgotten my earrings, the hairdresser didn’t show up so i had my hair down and plain, and I couldn’t find my veil. I searched everywhere and couldn’t find it. My dad kept coming to get me because it was 4:00, 5:00, and the guests had been waiting 2 hours. I decided to just walk down the aisle, totally not ready. I woke up in a state of panic about everything I needed to do– find a hairstylist, for one!!

It’s the worst!!!

Before I fell in love with my fiance, I used to have scary wedding dreams where I didn’t know the groom or I was marrying the wrong guy. Once I dreamed I had to put off my wedding to find my six (!) children from a previous marriage’s birth certificates. But I haven’t had any bad dreams since we got engaged :)

I’ve had two nightmares this past week almost EXACTLY like yours. Somehow my wedding was happening a year in advance! I didn’t have a dress, no one knew what was going on, there was no photographer, we didn’t have food or cake cause we hadn’t picked the menu. It was a trainwreck. I LOVE waking up from those dreams. :)

Yup! I had my first one about OUR wedding the other night! I have previously had many about the weddings of my girlfriends, where I was a bridesmaid. I have a feeling it’s partially to do with the timeline….we’re less than 90 days out and I’m feeling the pinch on my details!

Yes, I have had had wedding related nightmares! Of them include: My coordinator showing up looking like Britney Spears, My ex-boyfriend showing up for no apparent reason, Me waiting for guests to arrive while I am in the bridal room- and no one told me the guests showed up- and they left because I never showed up. :ol I am 4 months out from the wedding! And the nightmares began about nine months out…

i had one and it was AWFUL! worst night ever. it was pouring rain, i dont know where i was, no one cared that it was the wedding day, the groom was completely absent from the whole scenario, and i realized i had no one to do my hair/makeup, and everyone just said ” dont worry about it, no one looks at you anyway” it was soooo weird and awful!!

Mebbe your subconscious is telling you to not sweat the details since at the end of the day, you’ll still be married? (This message is NOT endorsed by the Dream Analysts of America) :)

I had a couple pre-wedding nightmares; in the first, there was a massive hurricane on the island the day of my wedding. Eeps.

LOL muddy dress!! I’ve had that one!! I also had one where I fell down in the mud. I think it’s my mind’s way of telling me to focus on what’s in front of me (don’t trip at the finish line!) LOL

In my first wedding nightmare, I was wearing a WAY too big black dress and didn’t have shoes. I felt so real that I woke up and immediately double checked my dress order to make sure I had ordered it in ivory.

I have to say that I did have my first wedding nightmare regarding the ceremony site. The next day I had the same dream and the following night after that. In total I had the same dream 3x and 3 days in a row. As my coworkers say everything comes in 3.

That day I called another church began attending service there and my FH and I have changed our church. We dont plan on telling anyone until the invites go out.

I hear you about the procrastinating because I am the chapter president of Procrastinators in Connecticut!!!!

Miss Cheese I have this dream ALL the time. It’s always the same deal. The wedding is now and all that is ready is what I’ve done up to this point. The weird thing is sometimes in my dream I’m A OK with it and other times I’m in a panick hmmm… Sometimes I don’t care that guests may not show up because I havn’t mailed out the invites and other times I run to the nearest buffet sneaking boxes of food out so I can feed the guests (we still havn’t signed a caterer contract).

I’ve had a recurring nightmare that on the day my beautiful melissa sweet lace gown is actually red velvet. RED VELVET! And i’m going “oh my god, this isn’t what it looked like when I ordered it”, and my MOH is saying “yes it is! you tried it on in white, and then ordered it in ivory. This is ivory”. Hellacious!

I’ve only had one, and it was very early in our engagement, but it was that a groomsman proposed to a bridesmaid and she said no and the whole day was ruined. I braced myself for a lot more dreams but so far that’s the only one. My fiance has had a couple too,

I know a great seamstress in Knoxville, though will have to do some digging to get her number, she altered a few pieces for me a few years ago, and I had worked with her for a few years too (at The Mens Wearhouse). Though she is semi-retired, I am sure she will help a bride in need! I will put in some inquiries with friends and see if I can get her number for you (I need it too since I will be getting married next year!). Shoot me an email, so I can reply directly to you :)
