Ah yes, the vows.
From the beginning, I knew I wanted Mr Breezy and I to say our vows to each other in our own words. (Mr Breezy wanted it too - he just didn’t know it.)
So you’d think a year would be enough time to think about it, right? I mean, I don’t know about you, but I’d seen plenty of wedding movies where the bride and groom were hastily writing their vows moments before the ceremony and I couldn’t help going, “Pffffffttttt!!!!!!!! COME ON, people. What, this day happened as a complete surprise to you, hence you couldn’t prepare? How pathetic!”
Well, guess what we were doing the night before?
Although we have our reasons for it, which will become a funny memory one day, it taught me something very important: you are ready when you are ready. And when it comes to your wedding vows, in the end, it’s not ‘when’ that matters, but ‘what’.

I went first and did a pretty good job at remembering what I had practiced that morning (in the shower… where I alternately said my vows, hummed “Going to the Chapel” and cried… joyfully, of course).

The groomsmen are touched but they’re hiding it with their smiles. At least, that’s my theory.

Of course, my emotions got the better of me and I started to waver (along with the female contingent of our wedding guests and a few males too, I’m told).

But Mr Breezy, in true Breezy fashion, cracked a joke to make it all better.

Then, it was his turn.

And omigosh, it was so funny we all almost totally lost it.

But there was also a sentimental side to it too. Aw Mr Breezy, you can’t fool me, you big ball of mush.

Once we had said our own personal words, Brian guided us through the “traditional” do-you-take-this-woman/man vows.
That is, as “traditional” as it gets with the Breezys. This is just another one of many funny moments.

Then it was time for the rings. Here’s the one and only shot I have of the DIY shell ring holder I made. It’s filled with sand from the beach just a few steps away.

As Mr Breezy grasped my band I realized, “Oh crap!! I forgot to take off my engagement ring!” Oh well, no biggie. I just took it off right then and there.

I just love that our photogs caught that moment. It was so real. See? Weddings aren’t perfect! And no one noticed or cared anyway.

I didn’t have time to turn around and hand my e-ring off to my girls and it doesn’t fit on any other finger, but I shoved it on halfway, anyway. It was either that, or stuff it down the front of my dress. (Can you spot it?)

Et voila. We’d vowed to be each other’s forevermore. Well, almost. Just one more laugh to seal the deal, mmm?

Are you planning on saying your own vows during your ceremony? If you did say your own, were you prepared well in advance or did the words not come to you until the day before?
