About Mrs. Peep Toe

Toasting the Peeps: The Ultimate DIY

February 25th, 2009 @ 4:21 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

Many people wonder how Mr. Peep got into the olive oil industry, and the truth is that he has only been making olive oil for about a year and a half. Before that, he spent almost ten years in the wine industry. In fact, when we first started dating, Mr. Peep worked for a small winery in Napa Valley running their sparkling wine program. (Do you see where this is going?)

He’s been in the wine industry for so long that we have quite the collection of wine. Here’s a portion of it.

This is in our guest bedroom. We wanted to make sure our guests don’t get thirsty in the middle of the night! The floor slopes, so we had to lay the wine rack on its side. In total, we have about 12 to 15 cases of wine stored in our little apartment.

Needless to say, Mr. Peep has been very concerned from Day 1 about the wine that we are going serve at the wedding. We found out recently that we’ll be able to bring in our own wine in for the cocktail hour! Woo hoo!

So, in the ultimate DIY, we will be serving sparkling wine and red wine personally made by Mr. Peep. Here’s just a sampling of the sparking wine that we may serve:

I can’t imagine a better reason to raid our stash of wine. And I seriously can’t wait for our first toast!

Have you incorporated your work into your wedding? How?

All I can say is that I proofread for a living so I MUST make sure there are no typos anywhere near our wedding. It would be far too embarassing to deal with people teasing me about misspellings/bad punctuation on our wedding day. Or afterwards. Eeek. :P

If i worked in a winery, I would totally involve my work with my wedding! You have so much wine!
Unfortunately neither my occupation (nor fi’s) is as delicious as this!

I am not allowed to drink bc of the medication I take, but the one thing that I do allow myself to indulge on is Champagne or Sparkling wines. Does Mr. Peep have any suggestions on a sweet sparkling wine?

I plan corporate events as one of my many hats at work, so I’m using all my tried and true rental vendors (at a nice discount for my repeat business). Sadly the way I should be using my work skills is that we should have a kick butt website, but it’s pittiful! :(

@Lindsay: There is a winery in Napa called Castillo di Amarosa. They have a wine that has a low alcohol content, probably one of the lowest wines I’ve seen. It’s a red wine (so it’s not champagne) but it has the ’spritz’ in it, it’s almost like drinking a sparkling grape juice (not like any red wine you’ve tasted). It’s absolutely delightful!! It’s called “Fantasia” and is often sold out on their website but we have managed to order it. I would 100% recommend it, even the non-wine drinker loves it!

…I didn’t complete that thought (because I got excited about this post). I meant to say, I was thinking how much of a personal touch with the wine we were putting on the reception by hand selecting and supplying it ourselves (because Mr. P is also a wine collector and has quite the cellar). Grr. Whatever. Still not as awesome as basically making it yourself!

@Lindsay: Hey Lindsay, look for Chandon Riche (Mama Peep’s favorite) or anything labeled Cremant or Demi-sec. Oh or try Schramberg.

That’s the coolest thing to be able to incorporate! My fiance and I love love love wine, so we hope to have good wine at our wedding.

As far as work goes, I run a yoga studio, so I plan on having a private hot yoga class the morning of the wedding with my girls and the moms! It’ll be the perfect way to wake up and destress for the day, I think!

@driftslikesmoke: Oh, I absolutely love that. The hotel we are getting married at provides free yoga in the morning and it’s totally on my list of to dos!
@Miss Taffy: Ha, we have a very old school record cabinet, but only a few records to play on it. I am sure Mr. PT would love to trade!

Miss Peep,
We’re going to create custom labels for the wine that will be on the table for guests to take home. Along with that we’re going to bottle our own home brew with custom labels as party favors and will dually serve as seat assignments. Which brings my question to what are the rules and regulations -if any- of bringing your own bottled alcohol (beer & wine alike?) into a venue in this scenario.
We both love going wine tasting at local wine trails so the idea of a winery wedding came easily.
And oh the custom labels are going to bear a J+W logo we’re going to design that’s going to intertwine with save-the-dates, invitations, wedding programs, etc!
P.S. Architect by love and profession…I guess I could build my own arbor…=\

The dinner music was a CD of my coworkers–only one of the people on the CD was invited, and she only noticed when she heard herself playing: something along the lines of “Hmm….I wonder who that…holy crap!”

That is quite a guest bedroom! There’s nothing like making your own beverages together and then sharing them at your wedding! I like the idea of an inter-faith, eco-chic wedding. I also noticed that you’re fond of Swedish Fish. What do you think of the idea of a blueberry Swedish Fish? I’ve got a campaign for such a candy in the works. There’s more information at my blog (super new so not many posts) but mostly I’m interested in your opinion as a Swedish Fish lover. :) Looking forward to seeing how your wedding comes together!
