Black & White Cookies

Black and White Cookies : wedding candy buffet B26w5
I’ve been trying to think of different things I can add to our candy buffet for the wedding that will have a “wow factor” without being crazy expensive. Mr. S and I used to share big black and white cookies from a local ’yuppy’ grocery store in our old neighborhood. It was always a great treat and an easy way for one of us to surprise the other. We’d share the cookie, each biting directly down the middle to get the best of both worlds.Back in November I played around with making mini black and whites.

Since it was my first time doing it, they leave a lot to be desired as far as roundness, but overall, the process was very easy.

How cute would it be to have a pyramid of mini black and whites on a black cake stand like this on the candy buffet? It would be a sweet treat that I made myself, is meaningful to Mr. S and me, and fits perfectly with our theme! And, this platter is insanely cheap at $19.66 on Amazon!

Are you treating your guests to any of your favorite sweet treats?

I made black and white cookies to include with a card asking a friend to serve as our cantor (something about them reminds me of music notes) — they are TOUGH to get looking professional, but you did a very good job! :-)

@lreighard1: It’s also an Italian tradition: http://www.cookiesitalian.com/italianweddingtraditions

Have you considered even using oreos? It would fit with your theme!

We’re having cookies and lemonade for all the guests after the (hour long!) ceremony and my bridesmaids and friends are pitching in to make them all from scratch (their idea, not mine). I’m so excited that they all volunteered to do this, it makes it so meaningful!

Here’s a recipe for making your own “Oreos” if you wanted to continue your black & white baked goods theme. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/oreo-cookies-recipe/index.html.

I haven’t made them but they look yummy!

Yummmmm!

We’re having homemade madeleine’s dipped in chocolate & possibly macarons (also homemade).

Bummer, the cake plate is displaying at $29.77 here :(

What about doing cookie lollipops and standing them upright. It will add some height and decorative interest to the buffet too. That’s what I’m planning on doing for ours (we’re trying to keep our sweets buffet cost effective too). I know there’s a Board post about making a Cookie Bouquet, and that’s where I found a blog link to teach me how to do it. I love Weddingbee!

Not ours necessarily, but my dad used to love Tasty-Kake fruit pies. So, in memory of him, we’re getting a case for guests to take, if they like. Because the pies are not the best thing they make, we’re also getting Kandy Kakes.

I love black and white cookies. My FSIL makes cookies like them, but instead of black and white they are dipped in chocolate and mint. Delicious!

We bought mini b&w cookies a few weeks ago at CostCo, FYI! They tasted great and were cheap!

@cfitz621:
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve made something similar before except the ‘cream’ in the center was more of a white chocolate ganache.

I’m definitely going to whip these up this weekend and see…wonder how it would look if I made the center cream green… ;)
