Lela Rose Saves the Day!

February 26th, 2009 @ 3:00 pm by Mrs. Taffy

Like Miss Peep Toe, I have been having quite the time finding shoes for the big day. In a perfect world, I would love to find a pair of shoes that are the exact blue that I have fallen in love with, has ankle straps, a 3 to 3 and a half inch heel, and for them to be comfortable. Since I am very sensitive to color, the obvious choice would be to find a dyeable shoe. I have searched far and wide for dyeable shoes, and was not thrilled with any of the styles. Besides the ankle strap and heel height, I really wasn’t even that picky!

When dyeables weren’t looking promising, I scoured the internet for cute blue or ivory shoes, all to no avail. I have spent way, way too much time searching, and was about to give up and buy an ivory pair that I wasn’t really into. I have already started dress fittings and have been using black heels as a surrogate. Time was not on my side!

There was one place that I didn’t look during my crazy search- Payless. They just unveiled a new line of dyeable shoes by Lela Rose called Unforgettable Moments. The styles that I viewed online were super cute, but I was a little wary of the quality, so today I went to a store to see them in person.

The non-dyeable shoes that are in store for trying on are not of great quality and cost around $25. However, if you order the dyeable version, they are more expensive ($44.99) and made with better materials. For example, the in store shoes are fake leather and very stiff, while the dyeable version is soft satin with a leather sole. They did have some dyed shoes on display so I could compare the materials, which was very helpful.

This “Grace” slide is absolutely adorable, but I needed a high heel, so they were out.

I chose the “Jackie” style, for the higher heel and ankle strap.

I do wish it had a cute bow, but otherwise I think they are great!

There is a bit of a catch—they don’t match to a color that you bring in, but rather you have to choose from their palette, which consists of 64 colors. I was very impressed by the palette however, and was able to find a blue that is almost an exact match to my blue sash. This means that those without crazy color heightened vision (or the color curse, as I like to call it) won’t even notice the subtle difference in color. ;)

The best part was that they were having their famous “buy one pair and get the second pair half off” sale, so I ordered another pair, but in a pinkish taupe to match the bow on the dress I will wear to my shower! The Grace style would have been perfect with this dress, but I didn’t find them flattering on my feet and ankles (my least favorite body part!), so I went with the same style I am getting for the wedding. Hey, at least I will know what I am in for after wearing them all day at my shower!

I had been stressing out about finding shoes to match that dress, so I am thrilled to cross that off of my list! If you like this Lela Rose line, you could definitely take advantage of this sale for your rehearsal, shower, bachelorette or honeymoon shoes. :) They ended up being about $34 each after the sale!

I can’t wait to pick them up. It takes about ten days for the dyeing process, which isn’t too bad. I will definitely post pictures when I bring them home!

I am so, so happy to be done with the crazy shoe search.

Have you had a good experience finding dyeable shoes?

Yea for successful shoe finds! I’m surprised at your source — who knew, Payless? — but it’s great to hear about another option out there!

People always forget about Payless, but they really do have some great stuff. So glad you finally found your shoes and for a great price!

Payless is sneaky like that sometimes. I found dyeable shoes that I really liked (not at Payless though), and BONUS, they came in wide sizes which I really needed, especially if I’m going to spend any amount of time standing in them.

my sisters got their BM shoes from payless for under $20

Perfect for a one day wear shoe (although I think they will both wear them again!)

It’s not for everyone, but definitely a steal! I’m looking at the unforgettable moments collection for my rehearsal and 2nd reception dresses!

I recently tried the Lela Rose shoes too and I will defintely be getting them! One of the Payless employess informed me that in March, they will be selling more Lela Rose dyable shoes but will be online only. I’m holding out for a pair that I’ve already fallen in love with . . . I just hope they’re comfortable!

I was nonplussed with the styles of dyeables out there. They just didn’t go with ANYTHING I had. :-( I even tried to find plain white satin shoes to dye myself, but I think maybe I just don’t like satin!

Lucky you!! I just ordered 10 pairs of shoes and not ONE of them fit right. I have the worst feet EVER.

Do you know if the line is available in Canada? I have had a similiarly difficult time finding rapsberry pink (or even blush at this point!) shoes to wear for the wedding, and if this were an option here in Canada, I’d haul my butt down the block RIGHT NOW!

I just went and checked and Canadian Brides can order, but the shoes aren’t in stores to try on. I’ll take Miss Taffy’s word for it that they’re lovely in person. Thank you!

Hey I wore those shoes in wedding not long ago. I have one suggestion…. wear them as much as possible before the event. I honestly was miserable in them! But keep in mind I had had ACL reconstruction oly 5 months before. I don’t know if breaking them in will help, but I would suggest trying that. The straps on the bottom part of the shoe was the biggest problem. It caused big red indentions (and I have slim feet) Not trying to burst your bubble, just trying to give some advice.

I have that same dress!!!

I wore it to a college formal! Omg I LOVED IT. I STILL LOVE IT.

All the pics are on Facebook but I can email them if you want. Instead of trying to match that pink color on the ribbon I just found shoes I liked and replaced the ribbon entirely. I ended up falling in LOVE with a pair of red and blue betsey johnsons with a bow on the toe and so I went with a nautical theme - I replaced the pink ribbon with thinner blue over thicker red grosgrain ribbon, brought the front hem of the skirt up about 4″ and tapered it off around to the back to make the front shorter, and then edged the hem with more grosgrain. It’s hard to describe, but man, I loved that dress! It was so easy to modify too.

@MagPie518: I know!!! I didn’t even consider it, until I saw a blog entry on the Lela Rose collection. I’m really glad that I went in and checked them out!

@Lillindy: Thanks!! I am so excited to pick them up. :)

@ES123: The Lela Rose line also has wide sizes. :)

@LatteLove: That’s awesome! I do love being able to get the colors you want without shopping forever to find them.

@Melissa: I think the shoes online are the same kind that you can order in the store, you just can’t purchase them online yet. Also, make sure to go to a store to look at the swatches in person, as they vary so much on computer screens! ;)

@Miss Quiche: I hope that you find a pair soon!

@lcbradley21: I appreciate the heads up! When was the wedding, and which style did you wear? I found some of the styles to be uncomfortable, but liked the Jackie fit.

@Miss Latte: I will! I am so excited to see them in my colors. Should only be a few more days now! :)

@Jess: That sounds really cute! I would like to see a picture!

I am also looking at Unforgettable Moments for my bridesmaids. The website just launched in the last week or so I know because I have been stalking it). The only bummer is you have to go into a payless store to compare swatches. They won’t mail them to you.
They have 64 colors but I can’t find a green that looks nice with the sage dresses my b-maids are wearing. Would you recommend wearing an ivory/champagne color (to match the pearls they are wearing) or maybe something silver?
