Preppy Perfection

February 26th, 2009 @ 6:14 pm by Mrs. Glitter

I went to Catholic school for almost ten years. We wore plaid skirts, collared white shirts, and penny loafers every day (pre-Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time”. So, it wasn’t sexy or cool to dress like that at the time). But I guess you can say, I have always been a tad bit preppy. Our wedding will not reflect much of my preppy beginnings, but if it did, I might include elements such as these:

Plaid bridesmaids dresses

A dress with ruffles for the rehearsal dinner (It even has a bow!)

A Ralph Lauren tux (If not the tux, then the incorporation of at least one Ralph Lauren article of clothing!)

Monogrammed “Thank You” notes

A fabulous and classy mansion venue (This one happens to be located in San Francisco!)

The J.Crew “Lucinda” wedding dress

Hey Ms. Glitter, I went to a Catholic private school for 5 years! Seems like we really do have similar lives (per your previous post). I can’t agree with you more that those uniforms were SO not sexy pre-Britney. We had plain gray pleated skirts (instead of plaid). At the time, I couldn’t wait to get away from those uniforms but I have to admit I kind of miss it now. But my wedding will not include any preppy looks what-so-ever (though some of the styles you posted above are adorable).

Ha Ha. I like to say I have a preppy “streak”. Sometimes I find preppiness downright nauseating, but I do love me some mary jane pumps, argyle and peacoats…..ahh.

I actually bought the ruffle dress (well ordered online)…it didn’t really look right on me, but it def. a beautiful dress. It’s not the best for someone with a large chest….or hips…also, it actually *snaps* up the front so…my large chest plus snaps…you get the picture haha

OH, and, I actually ended up returning the dress; I forgot to include that! Again very pretty but not the most universally flattering dress in the world

the lucinda dress is gorge! it’s my favorite…although my meager budget does not allow for a $2500 dress. *sigh*

@sally: Its the Eliza J Ruffle Wrap Dress. It can be found on nordstrom.com. Also, you can click the link source at the bottom of the post :)
@Ms. Sapphire: Haha! I miss being able to go to my closet and not have to think about what I am going to wear for the day. Uniforms were easy like that. We used to hike our skirts up waaay too high and get in trouble with the nuns…oops! What good catholic school girl didn’t do that? :)
@West Coast Bride: I agree. I think there might be a way to “overdo” preppy.
@krgk84: Yeah, I was actually thinking that too. It is definitely one of those dresses you need to try on first. Sorry it didn’t work out for you!
@Jen: I know! $2500 is completely out of my budget, too. Its lovely…in theory, I suppose. :)

Apparently I should be having a preppy wedding, because I love all of this stuff. One of our colors is navy, and we’re getting married in a historic mansion, so I guess that counts.

How did I miss that JCrew dress in my dress search??? It’s so pretty…and are those pockets? Sigh.

And I’m a sucker for anything with ruffles.

Catholic school…my number one reason for hating the navy blue/white color combination!! I’m going SOOO against my roots, as my wedding is a relaxed, outdoor, non-denominational, chill wedding! I don’t have an ounce of preppy in me, but your post makes me wish that I did! So cute!!!

I’ve never really been “preppy” (I’ve always been more the “quirky” type), but that first plaid dress makes me want to!
