Something Blue for the Bride

February 26th, 2009 @ 1:11 pm by Mrs. Daffodil

It’s hard to believe, but Sister Daffodil’s wedding is in three months! As her big sister and MOH (and not to mention, ahem, a newlywed who misses the whole wedding planning process), how can I help myself but do everything I can to help make her day perfect! I’ve got some great DIY paper crafts that I made for her wedding that I will share once those go out, but today, I wanted to share with you all the perfect little “something blue” that I got her for her birthday smiley102.

I wanted to get her something blue because… get ready for this…*gasp* I forgot to wear something blue on my own wedding day. Inspired by the crystal heart that Mrs. Lovebug’s friend added to her necklace, I decided I was going to handcraft my sister a crystal bouquet charm. But believe it or not, I had the most difficult time finding a blue Swarovski crystal heart in the right size and shade of blue. I was determined, and started looking for pieces of jewelry that had the crystal heart in them, thinking I would take one apart to create the charm I had in mind. But after a few hours of research, I discovered there was no need to, for I stumbled upon exactly what I had envisioned!

A beautiful Tiffany-blue Swarovski crystal heart charm that could be multifaceted in its use! I ordered it from Slade Farm Designs all the way in the UK for the equivalent of $23 including international shipping and handling (I couldn’t find anything in the US I liked that was similar and available).

I loved the fact that it dangled so delicately and also had the soft turquoise chiffon attached. And it only took about a week to get all the way here to LA! It arrived just as specified! I took the pic above at home… the heart is actually a lighter blue (think Tiffany-blue) but the lighting caught it at an angle that made it deep blue!

I hope she likes it!

What is your “something blue” going to be, and for you marrieds, what did you end up doing?

MY something blue will probably be something traditional like my garter. I haven’t totally decided yet but I do like the bouquet charm. It is a really sweet idea.

That is gorgeous! My something blue is a blue rose in my all white rose bouquet. I’ve always wanted a blue rose but could never find any but my florist can get one! WOOHOO!

I have an aquamarine ring the my mom gave me for my birthday last year. I want to make it into a charm to attach onto a bracelet (the ring setting is already falling apart).

I’m not sure what I’ll do yet but my newlywed sister wore a pin/button that was my father’s. My mom surprised her with it while we were getting ready. She wore it pinned to the inside of her slip. It was really sweat and a wonderful way to remember my father on a special day.. we all cried when she pulled it out.

Awww.. what a sweet sister you are! That little heart is really beautiful!

I’ll be wearing a pair of blue undies with my new last name, *Mrs. Newlastname* on the bottom. HA!

My garter was blue, I got it from the Gartermaker (who was awesome, by the way!) and my undies were also blue…they had Mrs. Newlastname on the back in rhinestones. AND my grandma gave me a something old/blue/borrowed…a hanky from my deceased grandpa, so I had my something blue covered x3!
