Today Mom Taffy and I spent the day together doing some wedding bonding (and work!). Our main goal was to find the perfect centerpiece vase. We are able to save quite a lot of money on flowers by providing vases to the florist, but he requires that you bring one into his shop for his approval before buying them in bulk. My first vase failed to be approved, so we were determined to find a winner today.
The second goal was to look through antique stores for my bridal jewelry. We struck out in the jewelry area, but hit the jackpot with this cute vintage Valentine, which will be perfect for Mr. Taffy!

So, I have mentioned the reception that my parents are hosting in my hometown, but Mama Peep and I are just now starting to plan it.
When Mama Peep said that they wanted to throw a hometown reception, I knew immediately where she wanted to host it. Way before Mr. Peep and I were engaged, whenever we went to my parents’ house, we would always conveniently end up hiking around the Interpretive Center. I even have photo proof—Christmas 2006:
Poppy Peep even started to drop very obvious hints. “You know they host weddings and parties here!! But they book out two years in advance!”

Me? I went to Nordstrom. It is a blessing and a curse that I cross Michigan Avenue two times a day, practically tripping over Nordstrom. Day after day, I’ve resisted. I walk right past, head held high as I think of the precious pennies tucked safely away in my bank account.
Until today.
I caved. Gave into my weakness. Lost my backbone. Whatever you want to call it.
But, I am now the proud (soon-to-be) owner of the elusive BCBG Applique dress in ivory. I plan on changing into it for the reception.
Last weekend, I escaped the freezing Boston weather and jetted to the Bay Area to visit Mr. Latte. Since our last few visits had been crammed full of wedding planning, we vowed not to do anything wedding related. Well, that was until I saw that Crate & Barrel was having their “Wedding Party” Registry event!!! I quickly signed up and proceeded to persuade Mr. Latte into going with me while I was in town. He gave in quickly when I promised him that they would have food, drinks and… a free gift! (I didn’t tell him that the free gift was going to be a hand blown glass heart bowl, but those are just details, right???)
So we got up early on Sunday morning and headed over to the huge Santana Row C&B. Doors opened at 9AM, and we would be able to roam freely with our scanner for about 2 hours. Armed with a cup of coffee, a copy of our existing registry and my TO DO list, we waited in line for the doors to open. Yes, there was a line… and yes, we had already started our registry. Actually, we were almost done with it, but I had a couple of items that I wanted to get finalized.
The doors opened, we checked in, got our scanners, and were led on a mini-tour of the store. We were then set free and I got to work tackling the items on my TO DO list.

Mr. Latte apparently had a TO DO list of his own, which looked a lot less complicated and a lot more fun than mine:

I know, I know. You’re all, “What the eff? Where’s weeks 4 and 5? Wha’ happen?”*
Well, I will tell ya. Not a lot of exercise, that’s what. But not without cause, my lovelies.
First, I was out of town for MaPo’s wedding. In week 3, I mentioned hoping to exercise a bit over the vaca, but no dice, mostly because I was running around like crazy in Maid-of-Honor mode. I did, however, get a few really long walks and one crazy night of dancing in, which made me feel less like of a lump. But, the breakthrough was: I managed to control myself with the foods! I ate what I wanted, stopped when I felt full (rather than when my plate, and maybe a 2nd, were clean), and I was gentle with myself about it! Holla.
Second, I got the aforementioned black death at the end of the trip, which disabled me for all of last week, and whoa, I hope you all are taking your vitamins and eating your veggies, because that’s one nasty-ass bug going around. The good news is that being sick is a natural appetite suppressant, so I think I might have lost any gained weight from the trip.
Gotta love nature, eh?
So, today I’m back on the horse with a game plan.

Today I signed up for a second gym membership. Yes, you heard me right, I am currently a member of TWO gyms. You’re probably thinking that I’m some kind of exercise manic—but that couldn’t be further from the truth! I HATE working out! But I’m trying really hard to tone up before I have to face my wedding guests not only in my body-hugging Lia dress, but in a swimsuit as well (eek!)!!
I already belong to a gym in Austin, but I split my time pretty evenly between Austin and San Antonio (where Mr. K lives). I wasn’t able to keep up my workout regimen in San Antonio without a gym to go to, so I joined Mr. K’s gym. The monthly fee is quite steep, and normally I wouldn’t splurge on something like a second gym membership, but I seem to be rationalizing every big purchase lately with the mantra, “But it’s for the wedding!”
Allow me to let you in on other large purchases I have rationalized with this handy little number:

Lately I have been doing a lot of research on florists and flowers. I’d say, in all of wedding planning, florals are definitely one of my weaknesses. I have a hard time keeping plants alive. (I’ve had a bamboo plant since August and I am thrilled.)
I don’t really know specifics about flowers like names, seasons, color varieties, etc. Since I basically have no baseline knowledge, I’ve been looking for pictures online.
I’m really starting to lean toward the idea of clustering multiple vases and vessels that hold the flowers. I love the variety of textures and the sort of eclectic/rustic look you can achieve.
Today’s wiki is Inspiration Board. An inspiration board is a collection of images, typically arranged in a block, that come together to show the look and feel of a future wedding. Brides can put together their own inspiration boards, featuring images that portray the look, color scheme, and feel of the wedding they want to have. Or, wedding vendors can put together inspiration boards for couples in need of direction.
Have you put together an inspiration board? You can upload it to the wiki! Share your tips about creating an inspiration board. What kind of images can you use? Where are some great online resources you can go to find pictures to add to inspiration boards? Share your ideas in the Inspiration Board wiki:

So, I bought my dress this past October and it’s been torture not to wear it! I’ve heavily debated whether or not to post pictures… but I know Mr. Stiletto (as I will refer to him from here on out, as much as he might hate it!) has been thoroughly instructed to not check out any of my wedding posts. And, since I’ve told only a small handful of people about my blog, my secret is pretty safe from those who will be at the wedding!

First let me say that I saw that the dress had tiered layers and absolutely refused to try it on.

Yup. I’m one of THOSE people, the people who buy things they see on TV (hi, Mr. Ducky!). I still use the Super Chef knives I bought in 1997, sometimes even to cut through aluminum cans! Sorry, can’t find the link. Evidently they didn’t take the country by storm as expected.
In my defense, it’s hereditary. I’m pretty sure I saw Miracle Blade knives at my mom’s house over the holidays. Don’t even get me started on the wonders of QVC and HSN, okay?
After all the build-up, you won’t be surprised when I tell you that I own, and love, The Snuggie. I don’t care what The Today Show folks think! Okay, yes, they do look ridiculous, and I’m sure I do too, all five feet nothing of me wrapped in a slightly monk-ish looking blanket with arms.
What does this have to do with weddings? Consider this permission to gift your favorite couple with a Snuggie for their wedding. C’mon, you get the second one free! Do it. They’ll either love it or get a kick out of your wit.
Do you have any favorite As Seen on TV stories? Better yet, do you have a Snuggie?
Our wedding day dawned gray and cold. It had rained the night before, and while the sound of the stream outside had convinced me it was still raining, it was actually dry and partly cloudy. Not ideal, and certainly not 75 and sunny like it had been the previous Saturday, but the best weather we’d seen all week.
I am not a big makeup person. On any given day you can find me in tinted moisturizer, mascara, and a little blush. And at the end of that given day, I’ve usually wiped it all off.
Naturally, I don’t want this to happen on our wedding day. So I’m considering some things I’ve never considered before. Namely… false lashes (gulp!). You see, mascara is usually the first thing to go. Whenever I smile, it smudges on my eyelids, which I then wipe off. And, oops! There goes my mascara! Being that we’re getting married in July, when it’s warm and humid, I’m afraid my eye makeup will disappear faster than usual. And false lashes don’t disappear, right?
Now, make no mistake, I’ve seen false lashes. I’ve seen how they can make your eyes look AMAZING.
And I’ve seen how they can make your eyes (and you, for that matter) look like you just got back from crazy town.

Three of my best friends are married and I have learned so much from each of them. I wanted to share a picture from each of their weddings and the lessons I learned.
Devon was married in May 2006. I was so lucky to be a big part of this wedding from helping her find the perfect dress in NYC, to making the invitations together. What I learned from Devon was that the day is about you. The stress, worries and dramas will all fade on your wedding day, and on that day there will be no doubts, no questions—just peace.
Have you heard about this? There are four (yes, FOUR!) sisters from Maryland, all with wedding dates in 2009! It’s crazy, right?
The Whitaker family from Annapolis will get their fill of weddings this year as three of their daughters (Kimberly, Lindsay and Kelly) join the ranks of the married, just as their younger sister Katie did a few weeks ago on January 17th. Kimberly and her fiance will wed May 1st, while Lindsay will marry June 13th and Kelly will marry in October.
Can you imagine?
