Let me preface all of this by saying that I am lightweight, and one glass of wine is just about right for me. Usually if I have more… my head hurts. :) But, Mr. Apple Cider and I love wine. Not just your average Yellowtail grocery store wine, but we like trying out all different types of wine. We have favorites from Rhode Island, Ohio, North Carolina, Oregon and more.
(photo by the awesome Leigh Miller)Throughout our entire relationship we have made a point to wine taste together. Our love of wine helped us decide on picking the Banner Elk Winery as our ceremony and reception spot.
We don’t just like tasting the wine…”wine tasting” is all about the winery experience, from walking through the vineyards, to meeting the owners and chatting with anyone behind the counter.

I have yet to decide how I will actually use my Cuttlebug for our wedding. However, I need to start using the Cuttlebug to get familiar with how it works and experiment with different ways I can potentially use it. Now, despite my love of craft/DIY stuff, I would not consider myself an expert. I don’t do scrapbooking, nor do I have lots of experience in making paper products. And although I love Martha Stewart, I am far from getting anywhere close to her league. I am basically in the process of learning and experimenting while I create things along the way.
I recently went to Michaels to use some coupons that were going to expire, and to take advantage of their sales. I bought the Fiskars 1/2 inch corner rounder that I had been wanting for a while after reading about Mrs. Penguin’s DIY Essentials.

When buying paper I try to buy paper pads instead of individual sheets, which saves some money. I love the big paper pads because you get a huge assortment, and some of it coordinates, making it easy to tie projects together. Also, if you are patient they sometimes go on sale for 40% off at Michaels.

Reader LPC asked today if I had ever posted pictures of our Chinese banquet, held one month after our wedding in the summer of 2007, and, well, I didn’t! Sorry everyone! Since it was a party thrown FOR us, not BY us, Mr. Bluebell and I didn’t have any say in the details of the banquet, or vendors/decor, etc., so we basically just showed up. It was awesome! But for some reason, I just never got around to posting any pictures. So here they are, over a year and a half later!
The banquet was held at Gala Manor, in Flushing (part of Queens, NYC). Everything went quite smoothly, the food was tasty, and we had a lot of fun! I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

A pretty traditional dragon & phoenix and double happiness set-up:
A cake just a wee bit different from what we would have chosen for ourselves…

… Mr. Quiche and Paris…
France is near and dear to my heart. I credit going to University in Lyon for changing my life. I’ve always had a wonderful life, enjoyed Ohio State immensely, but embarking on a new experience in Europe is what did it for me. It turned me into a girl obsessed with seeing the world and experiencing new cultures. Mama and Sister Quiche Nen came to visit me and the travel bug bit them as well. Mama Q and I love Paris. We’ve gone back to visit since then and it’s only fitting that we squeeze in one more trip to the City of Lights before Mr. Q and I take the plunge.
Mama Q suggested the idea after a few cocktails one night in December…
Me, Mama Q, Sister Quiche Nen, and might-as-well-be-a-sister-Quiche Friend L
So, the trip is planned and we take off in a month!

Marriage has made us poor. It’s not that we don’t have the same amount of money that we did before, it’s that suddenly we have all these extra expenses I didn’t know about (chalk this up to me being a young silly girl who was still partially supported by her parents when she got married).
With rent, utilities, savings, cars, and so many other practical items to contribute to, our entertainment/eating out budget has been substantially reduced. Since I do all of the cooking, eating out is a special treat that I really enjoy, so we needed to find a way to be able to go out and feel pampered without breaking the bank.
Enter Deluxe Food Date Night.
Instead of going out to eat once or twice (or several) times a week, we only eat out together once a month. He frequently eats out on the company dime, but both of us are very strict about not eating out using our personal budget unless it is on this special night together (except for the occasional dish of gelato at Paciugos).
A little place called Aurora has been my absolute favorite so far. Aren’t those little vegetables the cutest?

Mr. L and I headed home to SA once again this past weekend. The mission for this trip: to finalize lighting decisions. Surprisingly, Mr. L has been very involved in the design and decision making for our event lighting.
We arrived at Oak Hills around 1PM to meet with the onsite coordinator. It was so bizarre walking through the stately doors into the (usually conservatively decorated) lobby. It was mass pandemonium everywhere as dozens of workers were setting up various pieces of décor for a Mardi Gras themed event to be held that evening. There were beads and feathers EVERYWHERE and the place was covered in purple, green, and gold fabric, heavy on the lame’. Wow. I only wish I had thought to take pictures for y’all – it was so incredibly over the top!
Anyhow, we moved into the ballroom with the events coordinator and immediately got to work discussing ceiling tiles, extension cords, and inconspicuous plugs – snooze. I found this portion of the day incredibly boring, but Mr. L seemed to be loving all the handyman talk as he diligently took notes to report back to our lighting company. I attempted to envision our setup since we don’t make tons of trips to the Club. Unforch, with the festive and bright décor I was having a really hard time picturing our understated ivory and gold touches. Oh well.
Once Mr. L had finished discussing logistics, we moved on to discussing the actual lighting elements themselves. Ahh, then I felt as thought I had something to contribute! After a bit of hemming and hawing and indecisiveness on my part, we think we have our decisions made. Hooray!

I am planning on making my veil, and intend on starting ASAP. I have more than enough inspiration after looking at these beautiful veils. Ladies, you have wonderful taste!
Mrs. Green Tea’s veil is so delicate and lovely. *swoon*
Seriously. My first dress fitting is in less than two weeks, and I still don’t have a viable pair of shoes to wear. And it’s not from lack of research or shoe purchases. I have officially bought FIVE pairs of shoes for the big event– and I have returned four of them.
I showed you the first pair, which I actually bought for 32 bucks!!

I loved them, but then I tried them on with my dress. They are just too clunky looking.
The next few I bought barely made it out of the package before they were returned:

A couple weekends ago, my friend Jean asked our e-Photo photog extraordinaire, Inhar, to shoot some pictures of her and her friends. She was moving across the coast and wanted a keepsake photograph of her friends together. Selecting a location was easy. She wanted someplace representative of the east coast, and what better location than Washington DC?! So off we went on a friiiiiiiigid Saturday afternoon.

I wish I was camera ready because while en route to DC, we saw a couple of bridal parties taking pictures around the capital. One bride was dolled up in a pink wedding dress. That’s right folks. Pink.

I’m an old married lady. No longer watching for the new issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, now I’m reading Real Simple, and religiously checking Apartment Therapy Los Angeles for tips on furnishing our new pad. Still, not much else has changed.
Here are some things I think would be good to know about being married, stuff I learned post-ceremony.
1.) The wedding is not the most stressful experience you’ll ever go through together. Right now we’re packing for a move to a new two bedroom apartment (with two differing opinions on how to pack), as well as continuing what has become a full year of trying to conceive, along with familial strife and the usual drama that comes from trying to make time for all members of our families. It can get insane, the ups and downs of living life, when things aren’t quite turning out how you had planned, but I’m a believer of things working out sooner or later. I’m usually just hoping it’s sooner!
2.) Sometimes you may not like your husband very much. Despite what it sounds like, it’s not the end of the world, nor is it the kiss of death for your marriage. It is normal and heck, even healthy to let out your feelings. Then again, if you don’t like your husband every day something is not right. No, I may not always like my husband, but I always LOVE him. Does that make sense? When he puts his dishes in the sink, and just piles them one on top of another like the leaning tower of crusty dishes, I want to bite my hand- how many times do we have to talk about this? Then I realize he’s just as scattered as I am, and like I leave my shoes in the bathroom (right behind the door so it smacks him in the face when he tries to push it open- SO not on purpose) every day like he asks me not to, I take a deep breath, remove my shoes and ask him to please move his dishes. It’s part of life; sometimes you may get a little frustrated, but it just means you’re human. Hey, he doesn’t ALWAYS leave his dishes in the sink; sometimes he’ll do the dishes in the morning while I’m sleeping in, and that’s when I am so happy I have him.

Last week I shared Catherine & Mark’s lovely beach themed invitations with you. Today, I’m going to share some images from their wedding.
As I mentioned, the lunch reception was hosted at the Marine Room in San Diego, and this picture above showcases the amazing view that was right outside the window next to me. In fact, I took this picture while waiting for my first course to be served. It was a mid-January day, but no one would’ve known it with the 70 degree weather!
